>>listen lady, you obviously can't understand the concept i posted so don't even try to post responses to what i typed because your argument is completely on a different tact than the argument i was making. you're talking apples and i'm talking oranges. we're on different pages.<<
It still doesn't make sense no matter how you slice it, and then I even offered you the chance to explain it to me via AIM because like I said, I don't understand what you are talking about..because even if you are talking about this:
>>i didn't say better, i said different.<<
I still disproved that charisma stat does not influence how you RP. Roleplaying is an independent variable that is controlled by the player, not the stats. Someone with 9 Charisma will not always RP differently then soomeone with say 20, 30, 50. Charisma does not keep you from typing, thinking, having an imagination. I've never read the Mentors talk about having high Charisma making a difference in Role playing or GMs.
Again, I'm offering that maybe you might want to take the time via AIM and explain it to me, I'm actually into hearing about new theories, I have an open mind, and I still have some respect for you as a person, enough to say,"Hey please take the time to explain to me what you are saying because I've heard otherwise." Obviously you don't have the same respect for me, which is sad, since you haven't taken the time to come for and explain it to me. Also, don't try emailing me because I blocked you IP from the last time you emailed me so I won't recieve anything from you.
The last I'm going to say on this matter, it is honestly sad to me because I do think of you as a highly intelligent player Wheller, but again your theories come out of left field.

> wrong guild, i was talking about empath charisma of 9 but if you REALLY want to put it to the test of what i was saying, keep that barb's strength at 10 and stamina at 12 and try playing her like that until that character gets to the usual reckless stage and see if you play your character recklessly.
I randomly came across the below message while reading the "memories" folder in the "social side of dr." It was so relevant to the above comment, I had to post:
Message # 777:
Re: Lets see how many of you remember these things on 5/11/2007
Poster: Dulcinia
Message: I remember when he (Airaman) moved from hunting rock guardians to adan'f and talked me into coming down to hunt with him. I died and he was so weak and wimpy with his 9 stamina that he couldn't drag me.
So there ya go. A barb with 9 stamina, fighting higher level critters (even if they scaled differently at the time in question).
Renegade Empath Raudhan just arrived.
A cutthroat gasps, "I can't get UP!"
You begin to lecture Reexa on the proper use of the brawling skill.
You cackle!
You strike a heroic pose.

I think STURM2 made an excellent point. Playing a dumb tog that has 40's in mental is absurd. Just because you don't like the stat, doesn't mean you should pretend it doesn't exist. If you are playing a very social, well liked person, then you have charisma. The issue is, people can RP as having it, without actually having the stat.

The bottom line is, barely anybody RPs their stats. The physical stats aren't hard to do, and most everybody does it a bit by accident. Strong people carry more stuff, hearty folks drag more people, and dexterous people are nimble in combat. Granted, more could be done to RP the stats, such as purposely stumbling and being clumsy with low agility/reflex, or constantly flexing.
This falls through for mentals, though. While it's easy to imagine being strong, it's immensely difficult to RP being smarter than yourself. It's hard in D&D, where stat checks can save you the brunt of the effort, but in an active RP environment such as DR, being smarter, wiser, or more socially appealing than you are IRL is confoundingly difficult. However, since it's a lot easier to know how to act less-X than you are IRL, RPing a dumb or assinine character (although I can guarantee you that a lot of what you see isn't RP) is much more possible.
Is stat-based RP necessary? Of course not. Each person RPs the way that they want to, and since your stats aren't even visible, there's not really much space for contradiction unless you bring it up. It's just an opportunity for people to expand their roleplaying horizons and give their characters more depth.

That wasn't your charisma, so much as the alcohol.

>you're talking apples and i'm talking oranges. we're on different pages.
Yeah, we were talking about actual effects of charisma, not RP choices.
>stop training char for ever if you wish but don't blast those of us that want that little extra that charisma or whatever other stat adds.
I suggested training it conservatively. Sorry if that blew you away.
Villya pretty much covered my thoughts on everything else.

<I'm confused on this as well, how on earth does an In game stat affect what you type?>
in-game stat will affect what you know your character can do so you will not be even trying those things unless you want to show somebody that you can't do them.
it would be just like the time when wheller's stats and birthdate got zeroized one time and couldn't do anything but sit in tgse foraging and teaching/listening trying to heal folks in the guild. i knew he couldn't do it so i didn't even try. at this time, dr was still on AOL and there was nothing but copy and paste and typing, no scripts.

Haha, I totally thought ya'll were getting a SHIFT ability that would shift player stats around based on the title of the thread.
