Please Note: There has been some confusion as to whether or not musical skills count toward circle requirements. According to this post by the GM when the new reqs came out, they do not count. It is entirely possible your character has a bug which has made them count, but I will continue to use the requirements that have been posted by the GMs. It is also the case that animal lore does not count.

this was on top of the olywdd.org calculator for empaths.

What i am asking is the musical really not going to count and what exactly does the lore consist of. I am a new empath and would like some assistance since the gm i spoke with this morning could not help me

Music skills do not count toward circle requirements for emapths. From the Dragonrealms page on skills, ( https://www.play.net/dr/info/skills.asp ) you can see that it counts as a bard-only skill like animal lore is ranger-only in that only those guilds count it toward their requirements.

Lore that you can use to circle is going to be empathy, teaching, scholarship, mech lore, and appraisal I think. (Again, they're listed on the above site, too!)

Music skills will still earn you TDPs though.

Recently I became under impression that it's actually your five highest Lores (including Empathy). So if your musical instrument or vocal skill is higher than say, appraisal, it'd count. The reason I became under this impression is I met an Empath who said she'd been music primary for lore her whole life (due to spending all her time with Bards) and was doing just fine after 20+ circles.

I use vocals for overall lore. It works.

Interesting! I could well be wrong. I remember when music lore became bard-only and everyone could train non-music lore musical lore skills (confusing sentence much?) and back then they definitely did not count. I assumed that since vocals is so easy to train it wouldn't have changed.

Hard to figure out to be honest. When you're as overtrained as most empaths are in mech, scholarship, appraisal etc, with as much teaching and empathy as we have to have. Well, can't remember ever being told I needed more lore. More empathy or teaching yes, but definitely not lore.

I'm overtrained in Vocals not any of the others, I can assure you it counts.

Although you'd probably be better off training the basic lores, because music skills won't help you shift.

What does mechanical lore have to do with shifting? Don't ask...

I agree with you on the idea while it's called mechanical lore. When it's split, IIRC Artistry will take it's place. GG, still a use for Origami.

Empathy = forging a connection to your target, it's a lot like blessing a weapon so that it can do damage to a ghost.

Mech Lore = under the influence of the empathic connection, flesh becomes like clay and you can shape it as desired.

Appraisal = as you shape flesh, you start to wonder if you've got it right. Comparisons help you get there.

No idea why Charisma is involved, though. Me being pretty/ugly, nice/mean, or aloof/engaging, or you being the same, doesn't really change anything about how you look or want to look.

Probably tied in with forging the deep connection required for shifting.

Per Obseden's post of 3/24/2005:

"For Average Lore, only Empathy, Teaching, Scholarship, Appraisal and Mechanical Lore are added together."

The question of music skills has be raised several times and the response has consistently been that they didn't count.
