Anyone else ever get a RT this bad unwrapping an arm bleeder?
My first aid's at a respectable level, and to the best of my knowledge I don't have any major internals (save the nerves). Weirded me out a little, especially considering I tended someone else's missing leg a moment earlier in a fraction of the time. Unwrapping wounds takes longer, I know, but isn't that sort of RT a little overkill?

Re: FA - Normal Roundtime? on 04/18/2006 01:08 AM CDT
Had you unwrapped it earlier?
I noticed that the RT for unwrapping is sort of exponential. I can unwrap my right arm (when, say, I get scratched in combat and it bleeds heavier so I need to re-bandage) with about 6-7 seconds of RT. When I first started training FA I thought repetition would be how to train it... the hideous RT alerted me that such was not the case ;).
Anyways, if you unwrap yourself several times within a somehwta lengthy interval (at least a few minutes) the RT will double or even triple. Sometimes you'll get a freakishly long RT the first time. I'm sure there are circumstances that qualify what makes the freakish RT, I just have no idea what it is.

I've had upwards of 80 second roundtimes. I wish it would have a check to see if you are bleeding, thereby making untending a boon. It's ridiculous when I'm in combat, just took a blow to the chest where I have a bleeder, chest is now shattered and if I untend...well I'm looking at a possible 80 second rt.
Obs, Reex. is this meant to be the case?

<<thought i heard of it being a mechanism to keep people from unwraping and tending over and over
I would think that the fact that the bulk of FA experience comes when the bandage is bled through or unravels due to uselessness (whatever messaging for the bandage undoing itself) would be enough to keep folks from doing that. Unwrapping a tended wound cuts off most of the learning for that tend. Yes - it used to work differently, but now - majority of the FA comes when the wound bleeds through or unravels on its own.

I have noticed similar things when unwrapping bandages on my arms or legs. Perhaps it is because of all the hair getting stuck in the bandages and I am too much of a sissy to just rip it off.

Say what? If that were the case, I would not lock first aid on tending a deader with every body part bleeding. I get 0 RT tending up to...I believe extremely severe, and let's say a moonie gated wrong, I could tend all the parts quickly, and before they unravel, I would have made it to mind lock. I believe it is more of a certain number of bits of learning over a period of time, because my first aid will remain locked as well for a bit after that. Of course, I don't have empirical data or studies to back this up, I focus more on an evaluatory manner, observing changes and making note of them...
I leave the equations to the mathematicians.

That's what I notice, and why it seems to me that waiting for a wound to unwrap on its own teaches better than unwrapping it yourself: Because as the wounds are healed or bled through, you are still getting experience in pulses - which would seem to me like you cut off if you unwrap it yourself. I am not much of a numbers person when it comes to DR, I'm not big on how systems work - but I do know that I get more experience if I let a wound bleed through or unravel on its own than if I unwrap it.
I could be wrong. I don't sit around performing tests to back up what I see. If you don't believe me, that's fine - doesn't make it not true. I know that first aid was changed some time back so that tending and unwrapping the same wound over and over again would not teach as well. I don't know which GM Post number it is, but I do recall the change.

There are measures in place to keep a person and others from abusing the whole tend and untend of a wound amonst other mechanisms that may cause a longer roundtime (such as other wound damage, external or internal and the area of the body.)
If you had just unwrapped it not long before you got the 68 RT, then it's probably a normal occurrence. I do remember a while back when new FA rules were ushered in, it was stated that a tended wound would unwrap quicker or quickly if it was a leaking bandage for purposes of allowing a person who had lost alot of vitality a chance to have it properly fully tended. If the person were in perfect health and the wound was bandaged fully (no leakiness), then the unwrapping process would be normal (longer roundtime).

I'm almost certain I did not unwrap the wound previously (need to double-check my logs). I'd just finished with a Regeneration, and was checking to see if the wound was still bleeding. In retrospect, I should have just tried to tend it again (which would have told me the same thing).

Just glanced at the log.
My Regeneration had healed another bleeding wound of mine, a right leg bleeder. I unwrapped THAT bandage two minutes prior to unwrapping the right arm. My leg bandage gave me a 10 second RT. I hadn't touched the arm bleeder in about 14 minutes (when I first got it).
Sounds like it's just unwrapping any wounds that causes the RT stacking, regardless of the area. Still.... 68? Eww.

Just tossing my knowledge in, the higher your FA skill the longer a wound will stay wrapped. So, likewise, the higher your FA skill the longer it takes you to unwrap the wound, since its wrapped so well. Also, how long its been tended, and if its fully tended are taken into account. I get 80 seconds on almost every wound I unwrap that I've fully tended within the last 5 minutes or so. Just the territory that comes with being so good at tending leaks, consider it a compliment, of sorts. :-)

What he said. Though I believe somewhere along the line a tweak was made and now its quasi-random and semi-based off the unwrapping of prior wounds.
Still, I can get 50+ second unwrapping RT's without having unwrapped a wound prior.

Advice? Cast blood staunching at minimum then unwrap. Poof! You could survive bleeding into death's arms for approximately 900 seconds! woot!
