Is it possible with enough first aid experience to tend someone while they are standing?
If not, could we possibly get the ability to do this?

I really, really don't want this. Do you know how many time some "helpful" person has tended me while I've been sitting? I never heal when I'm sitting any longer just because of my 5 non raise deaths, at least 2 of them were caused by someone being "helpful"
Who cares if someone dies because they aren't tended. If they do, its their own damn fault. If they need to be tended, and can't do it themselves, tell em to sit, or lie down. Either that or just take the injury yourself. Its a lot better for them to die, then it is for me to die because I got a 40 second RT by some "helpful" person.

I don't think people should have to change their demeanor 'cause other people can't respect their space. Just like i don't think an empath should have to constantly stand for fear of being tended. What I would like to see is the whole 5 second RT from trying to search and skin other people's kills implemented into tending. That way they can't just sneak up on you and you have a chance to stand if sitting and tell them not to tend you. But having to change your demeanor just because people can't leave your bleeder alone is stupid.

>Do you know how many time some "helpful" person has tended me while I've been sitting?
I believe that was why it was suggested "with enough skill". I'd think upwards of 200-250 in first aid at least, perhaps even an empath only thing. It would be useful, and at that skill level there arent many levels of bleeding that you cant at least tend down in a small amount of rt.
I'd honestly hate to see any sort of RT put in before I can tend someones wound. That takes away my ability to tend someone missing 6 missing body parts in less than 5 seconds. I'd have to tell them to consent me first, hold their hand (and hope they dont have aoids on) or wait 5 seconds between each tend. That negates the whole bonus of no RT with high first aid completely.

Also, to circumvent the demeanor thing, they could implement an avoid for tending. It would make sense to want to not be tended by others yet still remain cheery.

avoid sing is because of the sign ability. would suck to be a thief and mean to sign the following:
> sing Har! HugeBarbarian is an easy steal! I just got a plat!

> "Har! HugeBarbarian is an easy steal! I just got a plat!

A white-eyed snow goblin reaches Raudhan's severed arm over one shoulder and uses the limb's dead fingers to scratch its back.

I understand your concern, Mole about people just trying to help...but that's why I suggested it be for only those who have high first aid. Like when you get good enough so that there's no RT for tending. That's when you should be able to tend others while they're standing.
I think an AVOID tend would be nice too for empaths.

Ok, so you have to be a path, and have lots of FA before you can do that. I actually fall into this catagory. I just have this vision of snerty path going around and tending people for experience, whether they like it or not. Its my body, if I want you to tend me, I'll sit or lie down. Ya see? This is really my objection. Circle and skill are no barrier to snerty behavior. And the idea of letting someone tend me without my approval simply bothers me. Perhaps if there was a RT associated with it as someone else suggested. If your sitting or laying down, empath can tend without RT, if your standing, you get no RT, but the empath gets a 10 second RT.

Re: Tend while standing on 05/03/2006 12:25 PM CDT
I like the avoid tend thing better than adding a RT to tending while standing. On top of that, most of the snerty paths arent very high level and dont have very high skills. I'm sure there are probably a few exceptions but those are, more than likely, few and far between. Adding a RT to tending while standing could be deadly, even for another empath. If they have a wound they thought they could tend, and they get that nasty failure RT someone with enough skill could tend it for them and save their lives.
There is going to be potential for abuse with almost anything anyone suggests. We just need to weigh the pro's and con's before completely disagreeing with an idea because a small population of the guild would be able to abuse it on occasion. Do we want new abilities and/or spells or not?

Re: Tend while standing on 05/03/2006 04:14 PM CDT
I like this idea. Many were the times I'd be in the healing rooms and somebody walks in with multiple bleeders and low vit seeking help but seemed ignorant of the fact that you need to sit or lie down to be tended. When you are lower circled, you aren't always in a position to help everyone who walks in immediately so in invasion or other triage situations you can't always just touch and take wounds vitality. And when you're a higher circle, you could probably handle just about every single patient who walks in on your own, but then that's rude to the other healers.
This would be a perfect way for senior empaths to lend a little hand to things without hogging all the patients, or casting HL on people willy-nilly. Definitely it should require high FA (200+? 250+?) and also add it into either the 'consent empath' flag or add an avoid tend flag.
