You are Thoarnne, a Dwarven Empath.
You have mismatched eyes, one black and one green. You have cropped dark brown hair and fair skin.
You have a thick bushy mustache that droops heavily on your upper lip and a long shaggy beard.
You are in good shape.
You are wearing a twisted cambrinth armband, some field plate armor, some gauntlets, a brilliant sapphire ferroniere, a sturdy backpack, a great helm and a mistwood longbow.
(2) Thief arrives. Thief has head wounds. Head wounds are not from challenge. They are not fatal wounds.
War Dog Zihnj just arrived.

You feel the burning fire of pain and suffering building slowly as you instinctively draw out the truth behind Zihnj's injuries.
Zihnj's injuries include...
Wounds to the HEAD:
Fresh External: a crushed skull with horrendous wounds -- very devastating
Fresh Internal: a ghastly bloated head with bleeding from the ears -- very devastating
Wounds to the RIGHT ARM:
Fresh External: light scratches -- insignificant
Fresh Internal: slightly tender -- insignificant
Zihnj is suffering from a serious loss of vitality (48%).

* Thoarnne was just struck down!
You no longer feel the beneficial effects of the Gift of Life spell.
The translucent sphere around you suddenly pops like a soap bubble.
Your death cry echoes in your brain as it quickly dawns on you that you have just died! Already, you feel the tug of eternity upon your spirit and you struggle to remain tied to this world.
You are somewhat comforted that you have gained favor with your God and are in no danger of walking the Starry Road, never to return.
(4) Empath departs. Comes back. Thief still has some decent head wounds. Mostly external are left.
You see War Dog Zihnj, a Human.
He has clear colored eyes. He is bald, with pale skin.
He is young for a Human.
He has a thin sparse mustache on his upper lip and a thin patchy beard.
He has some moderately deep cuts about the head, an occasional twitch on the forehead, some faint scars along the right arm.
He is bleeding slightly from the head.
He is holding some striped juggling pins in his right hand.
He is wearing a Nisha short bow, some perfect green-scaled gloves, a helm, a leather sheath, some leathers and a sturdy backpack.
OK. So non-fatal wounds. Didn't even take all of them. Why die?

Re: Why did I die? on 07/17/2006 07:37 AM CDT
This, my friend, is probably best answered by means of your skill in empathy and your stamina.
I'm headed into postulation here, and if i'm horribly wrong someone please fix me.
Should your stamina be lower than the thief, you are going to receive a bigger wound. You're not transferring "cuts and bruises" for "cuts and bruises", but instead you're transferring "15 hit points to the head" onto yourself. Should your head not be beefy enough to take that blow, you'll pop. Also, with higher empathy ranks I'm pretty sure you start to compact that down and manage to get a better ratio.
So, find out your stamina and that of the thief. It seems to me that this is the cause.

The thing is that you had no visible wounds and since the head int wound was one step from useless, even a small internal wound that does not show on the outside can make a killer combination. Without a touch it's hard to tell how much of the internal wound you managed to take since they are 'hidden' under the bigger external wound, but you took pretty much of it since the patient is no longer bleeding inside the head. So if you took all or nearly all of it and had a small wound underneath, there's your cause of death.
Internal wounds and scars that don't show are not that small at all, a person can have no visible wounds/scars and still be too injured to juggle. I forget which stage is the last that doesn't show, I think it was 'minor' but I might be wrong.

That would be my guess. But who knows. Is there messaging for destroying an internal body part? I should probably know that by now, but I don't think there is.

I concur with both, along with the possible difference in stamina between the two.
I'd have rather seen what the empath looked like at death, would have been more telling.

Since you asked for someone to correct you...You are, in fact, incorrect about that. The amount of damage a particular body part can take does not change with stamina. The only way a stamina difference would come into play here is with transfer of vitality loss. Wounds always transfer one-to-one. I've seen scars end up slightly less severe on the empath than the patient had, but that tends to only be seen with particularly severe scars being transferred to a scar-free area and doesn't appear to be tied to the stamina of either party.
Thanks,

Assuming this took place in the instance I think it did...
Head internal critical wound.
You had the maximum internal wound possible on the head = Death.
Essentially, you were bleeding massively into your brain, and out your eyes, ears and mouth. This would be A Bad Thing (tm).
