Since I feel compelled once again to ask this for my own safety and edification, could a red name please clarify whether or not an Empath must have consent to use Nissa's Binding on someone offensively (ie during the course of a conflict) if that person is not in or deliberately moved into a dangerous situation?

If so, why is Nissa's Binding the sole exception in consent policy as far as aggressive but non-harmful spells (such as Halt) goes?

Players are welcome to weigh in but this is a question I would really like to see a red name address.

Must already have consent? No, but keep in mind that if you are involving yourself in the conflict you are thus granting THEM consent if you're using it on them in that manner. Or, quite possibly, opening yourself up to PvP without consent intervention from the GMs depending on the circumstances. Keep in mind that without actually knowing the specific situation, I can only speak in general terms.

Wasn't this asked a few times before with the same results? casting any spell at all on somebody gives them consent against you. you do not need consent to cast it. period. why do folks fail to understand this (or are their memories too badly gone as to forget due to too many deaths without proper clerical intervention)?

Because policies like this are not always evenly applied, which leads some of us to wonder if policy has changed.

Keep it civil folks. I don't want to see this thread get out of hand. The Policy folder might be a better place for this conversation if you wish to continue.

>casting any spell at all on somebody gives them consent against you.

More accurate to say that under the right (wrong) circumstances, casting any spell at all on somebody gives them consent.

Doing any action at all can be cause for consent if the context of that action makes it clear that it was an aggressive act.

Everything in consent policy is a grey area anymore.

that's ok, Wheller got killed once in Riverhaven for healing somebody, an extremely aggressive act.

the guy asked nicely for a heal. wheller, not wanting to be known as one of them "NICE" empaths, applied salt first to the wounds and then transfered them. the guy then killed wheller for it. evidently, he must be on a low sodium diet <shrug>
