I would if I could, Brady, and that's the truth! I love DisneyLand and would love a chance to visit "that other one"; I can't afford it this time though; I'm having dental work done in September and extra funds are going to that.

If it becomes a regular (semi-regular?) thing, I'll definitely make plans for next time.

In the meantime, all y'all need to come to VegasCon.

Yes, I'd love to go there too. We (yes, it includes the wifey!) are planning on going to the next SimuCon, and then the next ____Con is up to the budget. I'd love to go there cos I've never been to Vegas.

I'd go to Disney Con if it was at Disneyland, too.

No more cross country trips for me for a while.

Villya and you other Florida folks, you must be crazy.... the truck drivers on 1-4 drive faster than the cars. Getting from Orlando to Tampa and back was definitely scary for a girl from a state with a separate speed limit for truckers....those big rigs really can haul....

I loved the hot and humid weather, although shutting down the theme park rides every afternoon due to thunder storms was a downer...

Spider-Man is the most awesome ride ever. It tops my list, even above Pirates of the Carribbean at Disneyland. And that's saying something, let me tell you!

Anyhow, if folks are up to rounding up for something in LA, San Diego or San Francisco, I'll be all for an WestCon...we need one, afterall, that us Pacific Time Zoners can attend besides Vegas Con, which can get pricey with those gambling and other costs.

Yeah, I avoid I-4 like the plague...and it's been under construction since before I was born (I'm 22 years old).

Yeah, ride shutdown is quite a frequent thing during the summer...usually it's only for a short time unless it's an absolute deluge. I try to go when it's not summer and avoid all the summer field trips.

I love Pirates of the Caribbean. Such a great ride. My favorites include Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and the old Wed-Way People Mover (it's not called that any more!)

Too bad we can't go when my high school choir is performing at EPCOT for Candlelight. It's not every day you get to hear a nationally renowned choir perform :big cheesy grin:

Phhhhffft..Ask Brady I haven't driven once yet since I've been down here. And we didn't have seperate speed limits up north either, but either way by that time, we can all jump in my Mini-Van and I'll hall ass. Floridians have nothing on me.

Carousel of Progress..I love that so much. But I like all the rides, accept for the Haunted House ride...I don't like that ride.

"It's a great big beautiful tomorrow..shining at the end of every day!" I love that ride/show!

And the haunted mansion was created for certain specific purposes...to scare the ever-loving daylights out of small children, for an air-conditioned ride, to refill on your social activities, and a few others that can't be mentioned here.

So, I love that ride! I also like the song that the four heads sing during the ride. Probably my most favorite part (that, or turning around and screaming at people that got freaked out during the ride, while we're exiting)

LOL! I remember that part, Reexa...

And great to hear that someone has booked their plans already! Hope ya enjoy it!

Some advice for those who plan on going...

1. The night before, get juice boxes (the kind ya put in kids lunchboxes) and freeze them (if your hotel has a freezer...hopefully). These will serve a dual purpose the next day, as an ice pack and as a drink in the afternoon once some of it has melted down. If you get thirsty before it has a chance to melt down a bit, you can open the juice box and eat it with a spork.
2. Pack handi snacks, crackers/peanut butter snacks, and similar small food items for quick eating while standing in lines. Disney food is EXPENSIVE, so hopefully you'll only have to eat one meal a day a la Mickey. Sandwiches are okay, but can get smooshed if you're not careful, and it's easier if you just pack stuff in loose containers instead of hard containers. Disney security is insane now, and all backpacks/bags are inspected before you enter the park.
3. Bottled water. Soooo important. Might want to freeze these too (drain some water out first so they don't asplode!). Disney has water fountains, but not many of them, and the water is almost never cold (and who wants to drink from those anyway..ewwuh).
4. Sunscreen is highly recommended, as well as a hat and probably some sort of neck covering. Buy the highest SPF you can, and waterproof too (in case you guys go on splash mountain a few times, or stand there and get soaked on the bridge).

I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing...I've been to Disney so many times I know how to fine tune your spending so that you don't fork over $200 just in food for the day (it's so easy to spend like $75/person if you're not careful). I'll have to give it some more thought and post more ideas as I think of them.

I'm sure someone will get an amusing picture out of that and post it.

Going left takes you into their breakroom, which is painted an interesting guacamole green and has little glow-in-the-dark stars stuck on the walls (they seem to lose their effect in a guacamole green room). And you have to get out of the cars using a rickety step ladder, one by one since they only have one step ladder.

So when you go left instead of right, that usually means you didn't really want to go right anyway because there's something currently wrong with the ride.

But at least you get a backdoor pass for another ride! :::::zooooomMatterhornzoooomzoom::::

When you're going 80 mph and the big rigs are catching up and passing you on BOTH friggen sides, yes, it's crazy. I'm sorry, but no freeway in LA is ever that horrid! Ever!

<<Oh...and last time we were at Disneyland, we found out why the Space Mountain ride always takes the right track and not the left. Heh.>>

Oof. Why? I'm itching with curiousity Ree!

Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and the Matterhorn.... all my favorites are mountains except Pirates. Well, and now... Spider-Man!!!!!

One time my son and I stood in line for 90 minutes, got on Splash Mountain....went through the little sing songy part, inched our way up the ascent toward the big fall (aka splash) part... right at the very top, right before going over the fall, the damn thing stoppped !!!! We sat there for like forever listening to those mean ol' vultures cackling. Finally two disneyteers came and roped us out of the canoe (yes, literally put ropes around us!) and walked us all the way down the mountain and out of the ride. : (

Now...therein lies the perfect definition of "anti-climatic".

<<Some advice for those who plan on going...>>

Good advice! The number one savior for me in Florida this July/August vacation was big bottles of ice cold water which I constantly guzzled and forced my son to guzzle, too. Kept us cool.

Also, I would like to encourage folks on the east coast to make the trip to the west coast. Having been to FL I can now ascertain that not only does Orlando have nothing Southern California doesn't have besides insane heat and crazy big rigs, but some of it is a lot nicer....

For example, for attractions you have, all within reasonable distance that no harder to travel than going to the various Disney and Universal and Sea World parks in Florida:

-Disneyland (has more rides than Magic Kingdom and it's is where the magic began, afterall)

- California Adventure (has much of what you can get at MGM studios, plus some things all its own)

- Knott's Berry Farm (think of this as the Busch Gardens or Cypress Park of the west, except western themed)

- Soak City USA (like Adventureland or Wet'n'Wild)

- Six Flags Magic Mountain (it's a six flags...'nough said)

- Universal Studios Hollywood (it's currently lacking the Spider-Man ride, much to my dismay, but it has much of everything else and what it doesn't have, Magic Mountain covers... plus, the Hollywood US gives you a backlot tour of the actual studio which is different every time you go on it).

- various other smaller sites and all the other big city touristy attractions.

- Legoland (cool if you like legos or have really little kids)

- Sea World San Diego

- The San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park...still the best zoo in the western hemisphere!

Also:
- Very nice hotels and motels that are in literal walking distance to both parks...and you can, if you want, go to both parks and Downtown Disney all in one day without having to waitfor/ride a water taxi or shuttle bus.
- The Candy Cane Inn is my favorite econ priced motel in the area...extremely clean, comfortable rooms, lush gardens, nice pool, free breakfast, helpful friendly staff, convenient location, etc.
- The Grand Californian is my favorite resort-priced hotel in the area.... very nice, clean, comfortable rooms with good service, plus a great pool, resort amenities and a themepark literally at your doorstep.

- It's sunny California. Plus...We have the best Mexican food outside of Texas. What more could you want?! : )

I actually migrated from the west coast to the east coast. Ok, so I do lots of things backwards. I ended up in the mid-Atlantic region though, not FL. Would not go down there, would not. I'm about to die anyways from the muck even up here in Maryland. However, that said ...

I love the seasons. I think, even if I hate bits of summer and winter, I'll keep 'em. I might not like it all, but without stuff that's icky, there are no good bits. That and parts of Spring and Fall are just to die for.

All the amusement parks. The amusement parks for adults, no less. Woo-hoo! More rollercoasters than you can shake a stick at, from Hershey Park up in PA to Williamsburg/Bush Gardens VA and everything inbetween. Wow. Didn't know about that before I moved here. Now I'm not leaving. Have only been to one so far, but I'll get there, I'll get there. And this is all in half the geographical distance as the entire So Cal mess.

Broadway. enough said

Cost of living. Other than New York, New York and Washington DC its sooooo much cheaper to live here.

Oh yeah, and I've been to the San Diego Zoo (lived within walking distance of it) and the Wild Animal Park. Been to Scripps Aquarium. The National Aquarium is just awesome. So there. <g> Can't wait for the Sygnathadae to come back. I want to see them again. Sea Dragons! You can have your giraffes.

Well, this is my first really sick East Coast summer. Ick. Not as bad as San Antonio, but still, ick. It'll be over soon though and then fall ... oooh, gorgeous and cool and fantastic! That's why I love it here.

Anyways, San Fran doesn't have weather. Its always the same. Well, ok, sometimes its cooler than others, like during the summer. Which is when? Oh, you can't tell? <g> Just teasing.

>Missouri's going to be hard to adjust to.

Oh, yuck! I'm sorry. <shudder> I don't think I ever want to live off the coast. I just like being around a lot of water. If nothing else it keeps the gruesome heat to at least a sane level. Yeah, 110 heat index is gross, but I don't even want to think what its like say in parts of the gulf states where you don't have the Atlantic current or a lot of water to help out.

I retaliate to this one by saying "when I want to go to the snow, I can; when I want to go to the beach and swim, I can...and when I want to do them both in the same day--I can!"

Besides, there are very definitely changes in the weather around here, often from one place to the neigboring town in the same day. We just don't require being buried in 7 inches of snow in order to tell that it's winter time. ;)

We had a similar event happen to us on the Log Flume at Six Flags Over Mid-America, Lisette. Someone in the boat ahead of us (naturally, a part of our group) did something and jammed the conveyor belt that dragged the boats up the ramp, causing the belts to shut down. Of course, the boat was still floating so none of the safety sensors went off and the next boat in line (mine) rammed into them. This pushed the aft of first boat underwater, and caused the water in the entire ride course to drain away.

We happened to be all the way at the far end of the ride, so we had to jump out and walk the rail all the way through half the ride.

>>- Legoland (cool if you like legos or have really little kids)

How is it out West? There's one in Mall Of America in Minneapolis, and while interesting for a short while it was fairly unimpressive.

>>- The San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park...still the best zoo in the western hemisphere!

What's so special about the SDZ? No, really, supposedly I went there during my time in California, but the majority of my time in said state was spent in diapers. Aside from San Fransisco-y stuff and this really cool Hotwheels playset, I don't remember any of it from 25ish years ago.

I used to have a friend in Missouri.

He collected crossbows.

Every now and then, he'd go back with one of his crossbows and shoot a few squirrels for dinner.

According to him, they make really good stew.

Perhaps Reexa can confirm this for us when she gets settled in :)

<<What's so special about the SDZ?>>

My perspective is probably a little off since the San Diego Zoo is the only zoo I have ever been to, but I think it's a great zoo because it's huge and has a wide variety of very well-made exhibits. My favorites are probably the polar bear exhibit, the panda exhibit, and Tiger River. Plus it's right in the middle of Balboa Park, so it's very easy to visit museums and whatnot while you're in the area.

<<Anyways, San Fran doesn't have weather. Its always the same. Well, ok, sometimes its cooler than others, like during the summer. Which is when? Oh, you can't tell? <g> Just teasing.>>

San Francisco has a bit more weather than southern California, though. I swear San Diego is always 68 and partly cloudy. And it always smells like flowers.

As a Kansas alumna, I will probably be massacred for saying this, but... Missouri isn't really that bad. The weather will take some adjustment, but the spring and fall (my two favorite seasons) are a lot more vibrant. Plus people in the midwest are much nicer in general than in California.

Fear not, dear Reexa!

>>When you're going 80 mph and the big rigs are catching up and passing you on BOTH friggen sides, yes, it's crazy. I'm sorry, but no freeway in LA is ever that horrid! Ever!

You've obviously never been on the Mass pike during rush hour in the middle of a blizzard, when trucks will go 80 mph REGUARDLESS that there is a blizzard and no one can see anything.

I <3 Mass.

>>Why does no one use turn signals? I hate people that don't use turn signals.

Because in RI, CT and Mass, there is NO SUCH THING. Its just a pretty light they put on cars so we can play pretend with other drivers.

>>Yeah, Missouri. Sigh.

>>The things we do for love.

Just to make my point... Truckers pass people everywhere but California and mountain ranges when you're going 80MPH, they have timetables to keep after all. Northeasterners are crazy... I was unfortunate enough to be in the car with one when she was getting on a 4 lane highway. she went on the on ramp to the highway that goes off to the right, got onto the highway, then did a U-turn in the middle of oncoming traffic because she "didn't want to wait for those 2 cars at the stop sign because she was in a hurry"

As a side note... the entire time I was up there, that lady was in a hurry... I think she's perpetually in a hurry. In fact, people in general up there seem to be in a hurry
