Just a question....desperate to know I'm not alone on this one...how many people have gotten marriage proposals after healing some twice and having the only words spoken be, "May I get a heal?" ::touch and heal:: "You are healed." "Thank you" ::You hug or nod:: and then say, "Safe paths" Only to be kissed which you blink and try to edge away from said person. Guy comes back in next day, asks to be healed, you heal him again and then he proceeds to tell you he loves you and kneels down, offers you an engagement ring and asks you to marry him? And how are you supposed to respond to that?! It's soo odd.....::cowers in a corner:: If I retire fully from healing all but my friends that is why.

Well, apparently after i declined this..er..person, he ran off and ironically proceeded to propose to one of my friends. We had a good little chuckle over it. Maybe it's a new person who see someone who's married and wants to be like them?Because I've been back for a year and i've NEVER had a situation quite like this..flirting and snuggling and hugs are one thing but a blatant kiss?? To someone you barely know?? Maybe a younger kid who's parents don't care and just pay for the game to shut him up? I dunno...is there an age limit on DR? If there isn't there should be...16+ would be my recomendation.

Actually, lots of offense everyone and anyone. DR is not child safe or family friendly, and there have been cases where on-duty GM's or GH's have been notified of said activity and they just laughed it off or let it happen.
Anyone can fight me on that, and you are entitled to your own opinion, but I know what I've seen and/or experienced first-hand.

I guess our definitions of 'child safe' and 'family friendly' differ.
But then I wasn't raised in a sheltered environment and started reading books that were just as graphic if not moreso as DR when I was relatively young.

That was kinda where I was leaning... I started playing when I was thirteen, luckily I had a brother who's 5 years older than me so I wasn't like most thirteen year olds and naive. I got many many indecent proposals that DIDN'T involve a ring, and not ONCE was I asked my age before such an indecent proposal. As far as the graphicness of killing things, I don't care about that. I grew up in a small town and saw deers gutted right outside my backdoor. But what I think what Clemency is reffering to is the dark underbelly to Elathian society. The ones that started out like Aaralise if any remember her..."She of many men with many 'favors'". I doubt I would let my kid play this game until she's 16 and even then explain the dangers of on-line predators to her because yes, you may not like to agree or admit it, Elanthia does have a few of them. They are rare I'll admit but they exist. But this wasn't where I was trying to go with my original post so hey!
Ryeka, I already know so well I wanted nothing to do with him, not when I've already got a pretty sweet Prydaen to cuddle up with and nag. And Clemency...said guy was young...no money. If it had been some uber level character lavishing me with gems and offering me a pretty fest engagement ring I may have actually thought about it. :-P

Once again this is off the topic and it isn't a subject I meant to bring up when I started this thread. My question was that I was wondering if other empaths had experienced "indecent proposals" mean marriage proposals. Or if I was just one lucky empath. Didn't mean to get a moral debate started on the whole age appropraite bit. 10 years ago most thirteen year olds were more naive then the thirteen year olds of today. Society changes.

Oh, and it's not really a recent thing. My mother, who will be turning 48 this year, says that she, her sisters, and her friends had all started smoking and drinking by the age of twelve or thirteen. And she occasionally tells the story of when she was about that age and got caught hitchhiking to her boyfriend's house by one of her uncles.
Maybe all my family, all my parents' friends, and all my friends were just strange, though. :P

Perhaps it's all in how you were raised and how sheltered you were. Drinking and smoking are not the issues I would be concerned about with a 13 year old playing DR. My issue would be the on-line predator of old men not bothering to ask ages before they attempt to have certain kinds of on-line relationships. I'm sorry..but if you're thirteen and having those sorts of relations IRL then your parents screwed up somewhere. And I'm not talking about kissing and hugging....it's what those eventually lead to when you get older.

(reposting in the proper thread...)
"The dangers of online predators" are laughable and very overblown. The predators that do exist in DR that I have seen are largely women, and the worst they will do is break your bank account if you let them, so most children really have nothing to fear from them. Aaralise was in fact one of these in my eyes, and the nitty gritty of that situation is not one I'll get into on the boards.
If a young person (13-14ish) is asked to do something sexual in DR, they have two options: say yes and participate or say no and leave. It should be no surprise that most of them given the choice would choose the former at least once, out of curiosity if nothing else. That is what most teenagers are like (yes, even the girls). If anything, people in that age group are more prone to doing that sort of thing more often. I don't see the harm in it personally (it's just text and a relatively safe way to explore pubescent sexuality), but then I don't have conventional views on raising children either.

Eh, I agree with you, but I suppose I'm not conventional either.
By the way, during a 2003 study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, 33% of ninth graders (meaning, ages 13-14) reported being or having been sexually active. It's not the majority, but it's not exactly... rare.

The problem is that a 13 year old is really not able to separate IG from IRL (ok neither are some 'adults') and are quite likely to 'fall in love' with someone. Plain an simple, hearts will get broken and/or abused. I played when I was 13, and I think predator wise I'd be much more concerned with them being taken advantage of EMOTIONALLY. Still bad for a 13-year-old. Funny enough my husband and I (both DR addicts) were talking about this just earlier today. We decided that if our kids did play they'd have to be at least 13 and they simply wouldn't be allowed to live in the Crossing. ;)

I don't think I'd have a problem with my kids (if I had any) playing at any age, as long as they did so where I could keep an eye on them. Kids aren't going to be engaging in funny business if their parents are watching, and if they're younger, I'd be there to answer any questions that would come up. It could even turn out to be a good way to introduce them to certain touchy topics.

This will happen in middle/high school as well, and there you have all the risks and possibilities physical contact adds. Always has, probably always will.
I know a dozen girls and boys that had their heart "broken" around that age too, even multiple times...they get over it rather quickly.

I dunno, I got caught by my mom talking about "melons" in 4th grade. If I count correctly, that's pre-teen. Children are definately not ignorant to these things, and I do believe they are getting smarter earlier. I blame the internet and it's ready access of information and harmless google searches like celebrity names turning into an anatomy lesson.

On a possible tangent...
I think there is another form of naivete other than being knowledgable/experienced sexually that teens fall in line with. I remember back at 13, I knew a whole lot of stuff, but a whole lot of nothing actually. I didn't understand consequences of my actions, repercussions of decisions, etc. In that sense, I was naive, and I don't believe many 13 year olds are not naive to the idea of every action has an equal and opposite reaction, possibly effecting their own mortality and personal injury (mental/physical/emotional). It is Monday morning, and I am tired and at work, so if this doesn't make sense, grasp for the meaning!
And the moral of this story is: I hate Mondays.
