With the new spell Absolution, I thought I might try my hand at playing an Empath - it's been years since I rolled one up.
I cranked up my reflex and headed to origami constructs, which was great. However, I'm fairly stuck on:
First Aid
Empathy
I tried to go down pick up some blood mites by Ilaya Taipa, but they don't seem to attack anymore.
I've been having fun with HW and HS, but it really seems like this guild could use some tweaking at low ranks. There's no way to start a new character without assistance.
Anatomy charts require 40 scholarship to start. That's a huge barrier. Perceive health requires 80 ranks?! For an ability that's not as useful as hunt?
Any chance this could be looked at? Perceive health should be a starting ability, IMO.

This is definitely, maddeningly, not the case. They absolutely show up, but it's random and seems to depend on out-of-game factors like "did you forget to check your health until thirty minutes after going through the mud" and "were you in a great hurry to get somewhere." ;P
That said, they're too hard to pick off with low ranks of FA. I don't know how having much empathy helps; I mostly have them show up on little thieves going to/from Ain Ghazal.

I've done them successfully at 25-30 ranks, mentals help as well as reading the charts alone and not in a book.
You can also PERCEIVE creatures early on, which teaches a smidge of empathy. Not as great as perceive health but it'll move it a little. You can learn manipulate before circle 10 as well.

You joke, but it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't in the code somewhere. I seem to only get one of those mites if one of the above situations is true. :(

I found it was a good trip to take when I was younger and wanting to be a scholar... I recall that I learned nicely from - not to mention enjoyed looking at - the many exhibits in the upstairs section of the building.
