As being a witness to this situation, I found it rather unfortunate that there were empaths who felt it necessary to FURTHER irritate the situation. Not only did one of the empaths actually call the player to come and slay the empath but even got hostile when he refused to attack the second empath. This is really sad when you consider that empaths are not supposed to be willing participants in violence. Hiring or influencing someone into murdering a fellow guild member (especially a very young one at that)is VERY bad ethics.

What better way to make ourselves stand out by trying to kill our young members, or trying to have an empath that is almost THREE times your level slain, just because you cannot roleplay a situation non-violently.

The reason the empaths X and Y became targets is because of the actions of a seperate pair of empaths (A and B )is because (A and B) thought it was necessary to spam tickle each other. X and Y were fed up with it and asked them to take it to another room other than the infirmary.

Eight lines each, repeatedly.. and also the constant yelling between two rooms. Another unfortunate part of this is that the empaths (a and b) are over 10th circle and should know better. Neither of them heal in our guild on a regular basis. They mainly come to the guild when they are bored.

*Is glad she was a bystander and not involved* How embarrassing for us all!

P.s one of the empaths who was threatened is an elder in our guild.. She is one of the top 5 highest leveled Empaths in the land. She handled the situation with dignity and was treated badly because she didnt fight dirty. I think if you are in the top 20 of highest empaths you should get a little more courtesy in a RP environment

Did not mean for it to be a rant.. just went that way :)

This is the exact reason we need a way to remove other empaths from the guildhall. Perhaps not for the 2 hours that it is for non-empaths, but for a time. There are plenty of our guild members out there who treat the gildhall like a playground. Now, I'm not saying dont have fun in the guild, just be sure its in good taste, and is respectful of the others in the guild.

Reexa....Jzara...can we PLEASE have some way to deal with our own guildmembers who are overly disruptive in the guild? Please.

Personally, I wish there was a way to SHUN guildmembers who are repeatedly warned. Like if an empath shifts in public or is disruptive. It would be nice if there was a guildleader that wandered around in Crossing that would only train people who were SHUNned for repeatedly acting in a way that goes against the guild. Guilds are great especially empath's guild. However, when you have people who repeatedly slap you in the face by making the rest of us look stupid then we should be able to deal with it in SOME way.

Maybe its too harsh. I am still a little bit upset because Ive been sitting here healing for an hour and have heard the same empaths mentioned in the original post tell people to FARK off or go get FARKED. They say fark but its obvious what they mean. Grumble

Really? That's a bit of a "shock" (pun intended) considering the number of empaths I see in the field shoving ogres around and convincing one creature to attack another. Seems pretty participatory to me.

I believe the notion supported by game mechanics is not that empaths are barred from being participants in violence, but rather that they are barred from being the actual AGENT of violence.

"I'm a-gonna say this one-a more-a time-a."

Shock is a physical reaction. Those who train the empathic portion of their brain leave behind the ability to suppress it. Causing pain or harm to another causes this untrained suppression reflex to flare up uncontrollably causing empathic shock. It is almost exactly like putting a microphone directly in front of its speaker - feedback.

Shock is not Hodierna punishing us for causing pain to others. It is not something the Guild causes to prevent us from harming others.

We do NOT take an oath upon joining the Guild, there are no promises made.

The one thing mentioned upon joining the Guild is something like this (I'm paraphrasing here) - "In our job we know what pain is, we feel it everyday. Why on earth would we want to cause more?"

Whatever ethics an Empath decides to follow are personal ethics. I can understand where many Empaths WOULD be opposed to violence, and I can understand where they might RP a disgust of those Empaths who would partake in causing pain, but by no means is it something which the Guild tries to instill in every single member.

We are a motley crew, this Guild of ours.

I agree with Syrath's post. I recall the empath Yorgi. He's the owner of the Langenfirth herb shop.

Empath Yorgi winks and says softly, "The bloodwolves came in that front window once". With a deep sigh, he glances at the scarred window frame and continues, "I lost my empathic touch that day, but my girl, she was but a wee one, so precious. Yes, the powers are gone but I've still got my daughter."

I think most empaths should learn to brawl. Yazegi is the kind of guy that doesn't back down from anyone. Sometimes I think that even an empath has a right to be violent. I don't go for the "You can't hurt me! I'm an empath!" If someone wants to fight me over something I challenge them, but if they try to start something while I'm in the guild I just throw them out while they're sleeping. I don't believe in violence in the empath guilds or on holy ground. I think empaths should either learn to fight/defend themselves or learn how to RP in a non violent way. Whichever the person chooses to do.

>I am talking about Empath against Empath violence more than anything.

Doesn't really much matter if it's an empath or not.

If I want to hire someone to kill another empath with my empath, so be it. There are no problems with this, from an IC perspective. Consent, and unprovoked CvC is a completely OOC matter and has nothing to do with the Guild, Race or Circle of the people involved.

I'm sure it could be frowned upon, but until the guild official dictates that we're not supposed to be killing (which I think is rather unlikely), we're implicitly allowed to indirectly harm anything or anyone we choose, empath or not.

Do I, as a player, think it's good response? Maybe not. Do I think people should be allowed to do it if they want to (and they're not breaking policy in any way)? Yes.

<<Doesn't really much matter if it's an empath or not.>>

In this situation...who was it? Empath X?....didn't want to create more hassle, just wanted to end the whole situation. Empath X is not against hunting or violence and recognizes that she lives in a world where good must fight bad and that requires violence at times.

Maybe Empath X should've thumped Empath A and B and called someone to come kill the friends of Empath A and B.... but Empath X knew that would've caused more hoopla. Instead, Empath X just wanted to remove the people and have it end.

Yes, having witnessed it all, I have to say I found it really odd, too.

Heh, I was there as a minor character and wanted to slay these people myself. And you wonder why people do not like coming in the empath guild anymore.

I'm not saying this is the case here, but I know that on more than one occasion two players (I wish I knew who they were, I've only met their throwaway avatars) have staged planned outrageous events in the empath guild to 'promote good rp', as one of them put it to me. So don't take it as commonplace and accepted behavior if you see people wildly acting out in the guild. It might be a planned stunt.

On a positive side, that night was so stupid it finally got me to emigrate to shard, or I would of quit playing DR for a while out of sheer frustration of being in crossing too long.

Yeah, being back home as worked wonders. Go Shard.

Now, no longer do I brandish my old jade hilted nimsha and get overwhelming urges to permamently shock myself by getting out my lightning bolt wand and summoning death from abouve. Needless to say, my burnout feeling was quickly resolved.

I really rather enjoy the nice people, the dignity with which I am treated, regardless if I feel like healing people or not. It actually makes me want to help people instead of leaving them to bleed to death. And when they reciprocate with a fat gem pouch, well... I'm hooked!
