when the appropriate moons are in place its not that difficult to maintain, honestly. The problem is you only ever really get one moon, and then you get extensive use of shards, which can take a significant amount of time to replenish either because you end up waiting for mana or waiting for concentration to fill up.

The overall prep time required + casting time makes it rather outrageous. But I would be very very sadfaced if I couldn't choose my bonus.

IoE used to determine my hunting schedule before I got sucked into what was essentially six months of backtraining.

I can't say I ever really had the opportunity to plan ahead that I would need 15 minutes of stronger Mental Blast or better Spell vs. Spirit defense though.

Please don't compare primary magic stat boosting to tert stat boosting.

It's been made clear that the entire reason terts get held mana stat boosts and primes don't is because held mana spells for primes tend to make very little sense since we need to be like... casting, whereas terts can much more easily give up their ability to cast to maintain a buff.

Or at least that's the theory.

Furthermore I agree with Kougen. Buffing mentals really just isn't that appealing, particularly since they don't work for exp. If I'm in a situation where my WvW spells etc need some extra oomph to work, I'm likely in a situation I'm going to either die anyhow or need the ref/agil even more.

Literally the only time I've had a use for non agil/ref was when I briefly used it to buff up for the AP (That lasted like... twice) and for testing purposes.

I use the Disc/Intel buff about the same as I use the Ref/agility. Mostly for MBing things like Monstrosities and big GMnpc bad guys. Great against thieves in PvP too. I had one thief accuse me of using a discipline CJ.

That's pretty amusing, but I'd be more likely to do what Mozzik mentioned and use it before Astral travel. That is, if I didn't already finish most of my trips with 100% concentration anyway. Maybe it would still help with accuracy in seeing the right directions? Because goodness knows that even with 1100+ PP I'm nowhere near 100% on that.

I doubt it would help much. I died yesterday due to some bad luck. 1400 PP and 99 in ridiculous stats.

It's been so long since I died in the AP (And I use it a lot) it's going to totally blind side me next time it goes south heh.

Actually what has been made very clear is that primary or tertiary are not supposed to matter- a spell is supposed to be a spell.

While I agree that held mana is a serious drawback to any spell used by a magic prime, the only straight stat boosting spells that I find are Benediction, IOE, and then Ranger and Paladin single stat boosters. Heroic Strength was converted from a held mana spell to a straight cast spell.

My point being is IOE is easily the second best stat boosting spell in the game. It is the most flexible stat boosting spell in the game. It is also the most complicated stat boosting spell. Considering the other stat boosting spells, that seems fairly balanced.

The problem is the complications outweigh the supposed flexibility.

Your perspective is also based on the fact that you've never cast the spell.

I've activated every stat boosting ability in the game, and IoE pales in comparison when you're talking about regular use.

Honestly if IoE was held mana (And I'd hate if it was) I'd use it significantly more then I do currently, since I'd use it every time I trained physicals and just let it lapse when I trained TM (And since I don't train physicals and TM in remotely the same places...).

For whatever that's worth.

I would probably stop using it altogether if it was held mana since that would curtain my use of other spells. Right now, I use it almost all the time when hunting.

I got IoE for astral travel, and i experimented with it for astral guide creation as well. It didnt seem worth the bother in either case, so i basically stopped using it.

I'm going to have to second this.

IoE seems very good on paper. The reality is that its not suited for long term or regular use. This is coming from one of the greatest advocates of the spell. I try to use it near constant. But the fact I have 40 - something odd shards with me proves the limitations. Mind you it took some prep work to make each shard.

Given its extensive limitations, I'm not sure IoE was really meant to be a "regular use" kind of spell.
