Hey everyone,
I've recently decided to start playing my moon mage again after a long hiatus. Can you help me out with a few things?
1) What should I hunt? I want to get my combats in a better place. Right now I'm trying to bring my shield and MO up. Relevant skills are:
Evasion: 124
Parry: 111
MO: 82
Shield: 41
ME: 100
I tried silver leucros, but three smacked me down fast and hard. I'd ideally like somewhere low that i can work shield and MO, and then the other skills. I'm currently training shield and MO in sprites.
2) Astrology - so prediction is the best bet now, right? No need to really do much with my scrolls, other than for enchanting?
3) Training magic - I feel I'm stuck. I can get things moving using DG, but it takes a looong time. Suggestions? Here are Magic skills:
unar Magic: 355 77% clear (0/34)
Harness Ability: 350 70% clear (0/34)
Power Perceive: 279 56% clear (0/34)
Arcana: 263 91% clear (0/34)
Thanks in advance!

First of all, welcome back!
1) To bring up shield and MO, you might try blood wolves, although depending on your stats and spells, you might be able to handle crocs. You could ask in the combat folders for more suggestions, and be sure to mention if you have a location preference.
2) Yep, predictions are the way to go. Observe something that fills multiple pools, then predict on each of them (though I often only predict on one pool and still lock). Predict analyze also gives good experience -- especially when you have a lot of predictions up.
3) Prep -- charge -- cast. Don't wait for full prep. Pick something difficult to cast, and use few charges, to work PM. But if Arcana won't move, try multiple charges. A common spell choice at your level is Psychic Shield, though you could also try Seal of Deflection. Personally, I like to use Manifest Force while in combat. You could also try Partial Displacement, which tends to give good exp because it's a difficult spell that you can snap-cast.
Good luck and come back if you get stuck.

1. I'd say sprites for sure. Personally though, I don't leave Zoluren. If it was me, I'd do beisswurms, but sprites are pretty equivalent.
2. What's a scroll? :)
TBH, my method of training astrology is a script that basically does an observation, a prediction, a predict analyze, and then a bunch of stuff for 3 minutes before restarting.
I find myself becoming perhaps a bit scholarship poor, so I think I might see about taking up scrolls or FA compendiums.
3. Your magics are about 100 past me, so I'll dodge the question.

Psychic shield will move your pm well even at 600 ranks. Seal of Deflection is faster, but you won't really notice the difference much for awhile. Picking up Partial Displacement and using it in combat will also get those pm ranks moving pretty well.

That's a decent gap between shield and evasion. Sprites and Beisswurms aren't going to teach you much more evasion if they'll teach any at all.
Blood wolves, if your shield can handle them, will be your best bet
If you can't handle them because of your shield, Step down to sprites.
Once your shield is caught up, you should head over to the first tier of deer.

Thanks for the feedback!
The PSY snap route works perfectly.
As for the hunting, i'll probably play with sprites a bit more until shield is caught up (not to mention MO), but you've given some great options in case i get bored. At this point, I'm more concerned with catchup than to build a bigger gap between shield and evasion.

I just started hanging out in Maiden's Tresses, and my combats are pretty close to yours (if you were to flip the parry and shield ranks, that is). They knock me around a little bit, but they don't hit hard at all and they lock all my combats in a matter of minutes.
But that involves hanging out in Hib, which takes a certain kind of player.
As far as prediction goes, I observe things that add to multiple pools, perform predictions from each pool immediately, and keep churning out PREDICT ANALYZE and PREDICT WEATHER every couple minutes or so to keep it moving.
My magics are way behind yours, so.... good luck?

Above 200 or so ranks, Astrology moves best doing prediction; the easiest thing to do I found was to observe any body once,(preferably one that covers multiple pools), and do a prediction using a tool on the skillsets, then predict analyze, and wait about two-three minutes, and repeat. You don't have to observe different bodies, but you should do different skill predictions; the idea is to build up a mess of predictions, no matter how weak, for your predict analyze.
Gogo Morleena!
As for hunting, if Tresses work for you, I suggest middle or elder brocket deer, black leucros, or peccaries and swamp trolls.

I'm late to the party I know- but my first character was one that I stopped training shield on once I reached the absolute minimum req. I lived to regret it. Get yourself a small shield, adjust it to wear on your arm, and get your defenses up a bit. You should be able to train that in beiswurms and bone wolves- but be prepared to switch your stance to evasion if you start getting chewed on too much. Another thing you could do is create a custom stance with evasion 100% shield 80%. Typing Stance should point you in the right direction for that.
Good luck!
