Spell name: Splice
prereq: Rend (maybe another? I dunno)
Type: Battle debil, advanced?/esoteric?
contest: Magic vs. Will

Description: A variant use on the same energies created by the Rend spell, Splice behaves somewhat differently. Instead of seeking out stable spell matrices on the target, this spell instead searches out active cyclic spell patterns being fueled by the target. Rather than simply seeking to destroy these patterns, Splice sheathes the flows of mana being pumped into the spell and then severs the target from continuing to support the patten, leaving the infrastructure of the matrix in place. The spell then redirects the conduit to the caster, who can then either release the cyclic, or attempt to continue feeding the pattern with mana. As long as the caster has enough skill in the applicaple magic skills to maintain the cyclic, it will continue as originally cast until released, or backfire or backlash occurs.

Essentially an idon's theft for cyclics.

PvP-niche, I know, but SOMEONE needs a trump card for cyclics, and why shoudln't it be us? Also, if it's a cyclic TM, the target of the stolen cyclic will switch to the target of the Splice spell (i.e. you're PYREing me? now I'm PYREing you! sucker!)

Thoughts?

Love that idea. It seems like it would scale most fairly if it had a range of success though, with middle ground being a disruption/dispel of the cyclic and top end success being a theft.

I think a 'spell that causes backfires on cyclics' would be awesome.

Especially if it managed to not fail the spell, so every time it pulsed they got nerve damage.

Pants.

Something 'Feedback'ish would be awesome, maybe with enough sorcery you start feeding your mana type into their spell pattern to disrupt things? If you manage upon someone who happens to have the same magic types then you just overload the pattern with an excess of streams directed their way?

I really like this idea. Basically add your mana to their spell pattern. If they're of your mana-type then it's just a standard backfire. If they're not, then it's a backfire with chance of backlash.

It'd definitely have to be a sorcery pattern though - since you'd be mixing mana types as you attempt to make them mix mana types.

I like that idea. Pretty much a pvp only spell but seriously, how many of our spells only get used for pvp?
A decent number.

Could always make it another TS spell that rather than injecting your mana into them it causes them to use Lunar mana due to tying them into the Web. And it could have an actual benefit to Lunar users by amplfying their link to the Web and their casting abilities (so in otherwords its opposite of every other TS spell and helps MMs and hinders others).

I thought about that, but most of our really unique debilitation spells are already TS, and I figured we could use one that wasn't "give target X status effect" in our regular spellbooks.

Yeah, I'd vote for this one non-TS, though I really don't care what book/mana mix it came in if it meant making it happen.
