So, do we have a spell that specifically affects balance?
I'm just thinking if we're "Utility Mages", balance is one of the more utilitarian qualities of a battle, and the problem I want to solve for is that extreme hit I take to balance when something gets a lucky shot an stuns my mage in battle.
I apologize if this issue has already been tackled.

I agree. I've got centering cast about half the time when I hunt and tactics seems more effective (than centering). I snap cast min WD (assuming moonlight) if I get stunned because it's easy for stuns to pile up; giving me a few seconds to evaluate combat and put down whatever stunned me and/or restore balance and position.

In the absence of a balance spell, what to do?
1. seer's sense, iots (agility, reflex), predictions to increase defensive skills so you are knocked off balance less often.
2. balance boots from hollow's eve fest
3. be a monk
4. whole displacement or winged boots to regroup and figure out your strategy
5. tactics.
6. use sorcery (sure footing comes to mind). i know a lot of people don't like sorcery and i know it's changing and there is already an extensive post about how horrible sorcery is. but until then, it's a great way to fill in all of the gaps of our magic. with all this said, sorcery at this time is still your best option. sorry.

Pretty sure the aspect of balance, that is balance is what the OP is after, that which correlates with most of the things mentioned. But yeah, its to easy to just bob and use other means for the most part. I wouldn't mind it as a means for MM to use with WD since it hits your balance. Honestly I don't remember the last time using that spell, and its pretty much because of that factor. Sure it can help in some situations, but you can just as easily find yourself in a bad spot a lot of the time.

<<3. be a monk
Just pointing out that being a cantrip it's not actually that effective an ability. The somewhat weak effect and long cooldown renders it mostly useless for any practical purpose.
<<6. use sorcery (sure footing comes to mind).
Centering would be a better option for lunar users I think. I suspect it would be less backlash prone since it's an intro spell of the friendliest mana type.

The monk Cantrip has mainly one function, which is to boost current balance with one pulse with no duration that I can see. In a combat situation where you are engaged with multiple opponents the gained balance is lost as quick as it comes. This means its only uses are engaged with a single opponent and using it to gain balance rapidly to recover from being prone or to maximize it once you are near max balance to execute an attack. The cool down makes it pretty much eye candy in comparison to the Mantle cantrip which allows you to leap to standing from prone regardless of your balance or encumbrance and can be used as long as the duration lasts and comes with only a few seconds round time to execute.
It would be neat to see the balance cantrip work like the mantle does. With a duration and pulsing balance OR a command with a round time cost that increased balance and position. Balance as it is now, is very much just a neat idea that doesn't actually provide any real use.
Then again if that all cantrips are meant to be, then its right on target.

By definition cantrips are intended to be minor acts of flavorful magic, far below the threshold of an actual spell.
