I believe this also means it's safe to assume there is now a non-negligible chance of "death by eye strain."

Wait! Um... I'm still getting the same failure message? I just tried 4 more times.

>study obelisk
You strain your eyes slightly to study a section of the inscriptions that seem to waver slightly.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

However, you're unable to decipher any of the information.

You know the following cantrips:
Generic Cantrips: Kinetic Fling (keyword: "fling").
Sect-Related Cantrips: None.

Did the reqs go up or am I doing something wrong?

That's the message for failing the skill contest.

To clarify further:

The skill contest itself has a large random attached. This was unchanged, but it's possible to get 100% with enough skill.

In addition to the skill contest, there's then a large random to decide if you really get to learn the cantrip or get some fluff text instead. That's what I removed for people who don't have the cantrip yet.

Ah, thanks. I was under the impression that it was a 40-50 rank requirement. I'll do some predictions and try again.

And thanks for the further clarification. I was about to say that the req seems awfully high.

So I plopped down a 2-hour Katamba beam and settled in to try out the obelisk. I put up a 90-120 rank Scholarship prediction, got a bard friend to come sit with me and sing a capped Faenella's Grace (Scholarship bonus), and put up DG and AUS just in case.

My friend was kind enough to toss together a script while I was preparing, which included a counter:

>>57. 57 failed tries! Ah ah ah.

I stayed the entire 2 hours until the beam was gone.

Sooo... I give up.

Do you have all the non-skill related requirements?

Are you sure it takes bonused ranks into consideration and not base?

I only ever read that you need general cantrip knowledge and 40-50 Scholarship for Flare. You need Burn for Scorch.

However, I do have Burn, as well as Dazzle. I can't think of any other spell it could require. I also certainly have general cantrip knowledge, as I was able to get Fling.

>>Are you sure it takes bonused ranks into consideration and not base?

Well, in the past it has helped (with learning shards). But I have no clue; the fail message is the same with and without the boosts.

But suffice it to say I have well over 40-50 ranks of Scholarship.

sorry just don't really count that as evidence that you have general cantrip knowledge, something has to be wrong on your end or your just stupidly unlucky.

I'd go fiddle around the underworld if I were you just to make sure, maybe you learned it and something happened that caused you to unlearn it?

Well, I did definitely go and learn it. I suppose I could check to see if I "unlearned" it, but that seems a bit odd to me...

GERSTEINJ2, thanks for your notes. My scholarship is far above the 120s. The only spell that's on both those lists that I am missing is Dinazen Olkar. Could it be a requirement?

I thought Burn was a requirement?

Also, I remember putting up AUS, Seers, and CV. Truthfully, it's been a long time, but I don't recall having to spend more than 10m getting it.

yeah, burn is the only "spell" req for the "scorch" or "label" cantrip. my only mm with that one resides in TF.

there had been a cantrip that you could get <fling> as an unsected, and it later changed so you could get it even if you joined a sect.

One way you can tell if you need to get general cantrip knowledge, would be to go to your sect representative <if you are a member of a sect> to ask about cantrips, they will tell you if you are "missing" general cantrip knowledge without having to make a journey down there...

<i hate death spirits. that can attack from pole when you're in RT in water.... I really do....>

I know when i got it it took awhile, and I had put up CV, and Seers. I'm not sure whether I had also done a lore prediction on myself as well.
