I'm assuming that scholarship is a hard req, correct?

man, I hope not. That means I'm going to have to start training some other kind of lore and theres not much left, well I am forgetting the mech lore breakup so yeah probably won't be so bad.

Yep. Anything not mentioned explicitly as a soft req is a hard req.

Meh, honestly I'm more worried about survival since skill joining is going to force me to train something I normally don't train.

I noticed we have 7 Nth Magic requirements. It was stated in your precursor post that Primary Magic will NEVER count as an Nth requirement, so... is our astrology a soft req, and that's the 7th magic? Or will Primary be taken into account for us regardless of what the precursor post said?
And way to quietly require a bit of Sorcery. I feel like that's exactly how the moon mage guild would roll.

Nope, Astro is currently a hard req.
There are 10 magic skills in the new world (including Astro). Get rid of Astro and PM and you've got 8 usable for circling. Since MMs get to use Sorcery to circle, a MM can choose one of these skills to not train - It can be Sorcery if you want, but you can also choose one of the others.

Yeah, we went back and forth on who to let Sorcery count for, and eventually decided it was too good of a fit for Moon Mage lore to "quietly" allow it.

>>I have a question about crafting and what it teaches. Does it teach scholarship? Are they lore skills? If so, then I'll be much more interested in crafting.
There will be 5 crafting skills, all of them lores: Forging, Outfitting, Engineering, Alchemy, and Enchanting. Performing the crafting itself will probably not teach anything other than the crafting skill (though I could maybe see Appraisal dabbling).
Depending on how interested you are in doing the gathering of raw materials for your craft, that will teach other skills. Right now mining teaches Foraging, with tiny bits of Appraisal and Perception. I could see the gathering of sigils for Enchanting teaching either Scholarship or Arcana.

Re: Moon Mage Circle Requirements on 03/16/2012 09:10 PM CDT
This is probably stupid, but help me out. I'm looking at the top magic req at 150th, which as I calculate is 1050 ranks. Then I'm looking at the magic translation scheme, which was at last throw-out, in the 60-80% of PM range, but TM stays TM. Under this scheme, TM will move to #1 with me, with no grandfathering, but my next 2-3 magics probably fall under the 150th reqs if they are gimped at 60-80%. Does that mean my gimped magics will be grandfathered? I guess I'm asking if grandfathering trumps the PM-magic translation equation, whatever it ends up being.

Are you forgetting about Attunement? I think that was last slated to be the higher of PP or Harness.
So you should have Attunement, Arcana, and TM all remaining at levels you had previously. PM becomes non-circle material, and the new skills are at undefined ranges based on PM. I have to assume they will get grandfathered if they are still too low, because of the whole big bolded statement about how everything will get grandfathered.

<<Are you forgetting about Attunement? I think that was last slated to be the higher of PP or Harness.>>
I was, thank you. So Attunement, TM, and arcana would be my top 3. That still leaves several magics for me at 5 ranks per that will be below grandfather level if translated at less than 70-75% of PM. If grandfathering doesn't trump the translation, then I think I will be under 150th a good bit, despite currently being set for 173th right now. I can't be the only one in that situation? To me that seems to support a PM-to-magics translation that isn't under 80% of PM. Maybe I'm still totally misunderstanding it. Or maybe that's supposed to be the tweak.

Uhh... I think you mean 850 ranks :P
10 circles at 4 per = 40
20 circles at 4 per = 80
40 circles at 5 per = 200
30 circles at 6 per = 180
50 circles at 7 per = 350

To compensate for lacking armor or weapon requirements.

Which is, ironically, a better understanding of the buffed magic requirement. It isn't "we're going Moon Mages a bigger req to represent them being awesome" it's "we're giving Moon Mages a bigger req to compensate for their sanctioned cluelessness around weapons and armor."

I'm sure if you wait a year everyone will be back to using 'master of X' terminology. It's too handy and simple a label to stop using it.

Well my infinity of real numbers is bigger than your infinity of natural numbers.
