It bypasses the requirement to use a telescope on certain constellations, but that's only one aspect of what telescopes provide. They also give a bonus vs. cloud cover, which can still be useful to you.

You can see things that would otherwise be too small and dim. Cloud cover is an entirely different obstacle.
