Normally it's days in between changes but this was at most about 2 hours. Unfortunately I was afk for a couple hours and I don't know the exact timing.
Thought I'd bring it up in case it was wierd.

THANK YOU Raesh. I can't wait to try the new planets out. I'm not sure I'm ready for a whole new round of data collection yet though... ;)
>>2) All Heavenly bodies have had their prophetic potentials updated. This was done to give a better spread across seasons, levels and generally more reason to think about what you're observing instead of falling back on the same small handful of heavenly bodies.
Can you confirm that using a "strong" body will fill your pool faster than a "weak" one? Any chance you could tell us if it is roughly 1 point, 2 points, 3 points of filling for weak, moderate, strong? I.e. will you fill 3x faster with a strong than a weak?

Yeah, I updated Uwresari Gems. They've always reflected if the planets were visible or not and as mentioned the old logic was... interesting.

Yup.

The sun doesn't fill offense anymore. Not sure if that's a change or a bug:
You scan the skies for a few moments.
The mid-morning sun is unobscured by clouds.
The sun shines with a steady, yellow light.
You learned something useful from your observation.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
R> pred state all
You consider your recent observations:
You have a fledgling understanding of the celestial influences over magic.
You have a weak understanding of the celestial influences over lore.
You have no understanding of the celestial influences over offensive combat.
You have a weak understanding of the celestial influences over defensive combat.
You have a fledgling understanding of the celestial influences over survival.
You have no understanding of the celestial influences over future events.
Roundtime: 15 sec.
I did a couple observations on the sun and still haven't seen any movement on my offensive combat pool.

So this is the long way of saying they don't fill the same pools? What you wrote sounds to me like higher skills will fill more of the pools per observation ("prophetic potential") and higher level objects will fill the pools better than low level("the more elusive the heavenly body is, the more prophetic potential it has"). I don't read anything that says they don't fill the same skillsets they used to. Sometimes straight to the point is the best line to take when overhauling long standing systems.

Very cool changes to the planets! Thanks! Two questions:
1. Any chance that "recall heaven <object>" actually reads out offense/defense/lore/etc instead of:
You recall what you know of the prophetic significance of the Spider:
It holds sway modestly over aggression and warfare.
I assume for some reason this is the way you wanted it to read instead of the other and i'm curious as to why muddle up the names..
2. Any chance you could reconsider the RT on "predict state all"? i'm ranging between 16-21 seconds at the moment and i really rather despise how long it takes, but it's more of a peeve. i'm very glad to hear that the planets are getting some love.

I think the sun no longer filling the offense pool should be reconsidered. The new current set up has new Moon Mages not being able to observe anything to fill up the offense pool until 6th circle. If the sun filled both survival and offense pools, then new Moon Mages once again would have all of the options available from the start.

The messaging was designed to keep the system feeling slightly less mechanical and more in character.
>>Any chance you could reconsider the RT on "predict state all"? i'm ranging between 16-21 seconds at the moment and i really rather despise how long it takes, but it's more of a peeve.
Yeah, the RT on it is a touch long - but keep in mind the it's just summing the round time from checking them one at a time. If you're trying to fill a specific pool or two it's much faster to just monitor those pools.

I'm okay with day not being the ideal time to predict - and at higher levels the planets really help with day time prediction.
I pondered making the sun offense instead of survival since that would give you everything at 1st circle (Due to the Heart), but I figured a little inconvenience at low levels wasn't a big deal (Weapons aren't suppose to be a Moon Mage's strong point) in exchange for having survival as the one thing you're certain to be able to observe during the day. I couldn't bring myself to set the Wolf, Heart or Raven to offense for thematic reasons so it defaulted to the Cat as the first year round source (Which isn't a spectacular thematic fit either but thems the breaks).

You recall what you know of the prophetic significance of the planet Morleena:
It holds sway weakly over serenity and endurance.
It holds sway strongly over the body.
Roundtime: 2 sec.
Can't believe you ruined poor Morleena. Where's the give and take?

Re: The Planets Keep On Turning on 04/23/2013 02:38 PM CDT
One body got vastly better, a few got much better (6), many got better (22), many stayed the same (23) and some got a little worse (14).
Morleena was one of the big reasons to start on this project (And the Shrike and Welkin). The goal was to make the vast majority of the heavens useful to somebody at least some of the time, whereas before most of them just weren't useful to anyone ever. If I'd left Morleena as it was, but with the new availability the entire project would have been pointless. Of course Morleena wasn't nerfed nearly as badly as you seem to think, mostly just redistributed.
Planets fill their own niche now anyhow in the overall balance of the skies.

Hmm... I feel like you were predicting that complaint and had something already typed up for it. I don't really care too much but I felt like Morleena was such a huge part of my moon history (omg morleena is up hooray), it should get at least a word of passing.
Overall, I like the new planets system because I can now always observe X planets instead of having to search for random constellations during the night. The added functionality to day time is pretty amazing, fantastic even.

Hey that's cool too, in that case can we change the output of predict state all to match that of recall heaven? i'd just hoped for some consistency between them whichever way it swings.

The problem is that predict state all sums up all of the rest of the predict states, and syntactically those are called Offense, Defense, Lore etc so it makes sense for that output to match those commands.
If instead those commands didn't exist and we just had "predict state" I would be more inclined to match the more IC messaging.

Re: The Planets Keep On Turning on 04/28/2013 08:56 PM CDT
Did this change get reverted or something? All the planets I was observing on earlier today (Szeldia, Ismenia, Morleena, and I think one more) have become unobservable, either too faint for the eye or "search is fruitless" messaging. All are within perceiveable range. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the change; I thought perceive planets would show all observable planets (with or without telescope planets).
Re: The Planets Keep On Turning on 04/28/2013 09:59 PM CDT
You're confused.
Perceive Planets senses all the planets within a certain radius and was unchanged my this. That's what drives mana.
Observing/Studying planets is a purely line of sight function, and that is what changed.

Can we change it so we can know if the planet is out or not? I mean, if we are observing the heavens, hopefully we are also reaching out with all of our senses to know which planets are up as well...regardless of eyes being able to see it.

No. It's quick to check with a telescope and your senses aren't a fine enough tool in this case. It's no different than how many heavenly bodies (Which, until recently, included all the planets) have always been where you need a telescope to see if they're up and they don't show up in observe sky. The only reason any of them are visible without a telescope was to better simulate real life (Where there's a number of planets you can spot with the naked eye given the right knowledge and conditions).
