This all sounds fantastic.
A couple questions
- What does this mean for social acceptance of necromancers? Will all non-lich necros be more or less accepted?
- What will happen to clerics who declare themselves as "necro friendly"? Will there be a mechanical impact, some sort of heretic status or forced title, or will it be purely RP?

>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
This!
Its all very exciting stuff. I love Necro lore, so the library is going to be something I throw myself into. The change to Social Outrage is going to be extremely interesting, anything that makes RP more accessible for Necromancers is going to be great. I cant tell you how much time I want to invest into making the perfect Risen. And at last Transcendence (or those other loser States) is nearly in our grasp.

So so exciting. Risen are going to be so awesome and of course already being half perverse I can't wait to make it completely official. And of course being able to be the lich that I want to be, undead and all, not like the flowery, gardening followers of Book. <3 you Jhien.
Team Necro you've done an outstanding job and we appreciate every bit of it!

This is really great hearing about all the upcoming changes! I do have a question regarding the Social Outrage change. For those who decide not to have spells up and/or constructs and zombies out in town, will the system be more forgiving? I know there was a discussion not long ago on the forums about how players really felt somewhat isolated from anything going on, social-wise. I believe GM Armifer touched on it under the thread called "Maining a Necromancer".

This is all stuff we can discuss more about as we're nearing release. I don't want to spoil too too much just yet, and some parts of it will depend on how the events go!

So, one question, please tell me we'll actually be able to use our buffs constantly without getting smote, will Trans or Lich states make this possible? And before anyone tells me that they use our buffs just fine without repercussions, I was getting smote from keeping my buffs up so much of the time so yes, it does happen if you spend 95% of your time in combat and keep your buffs up constantly.

I don't know if one players miss management of their divine outrage should be cause for global shifts. I've seen perhaps one necromancer on that flip side of the divine outrage platform on occasion through my death feeds, whereas I see several HLC necromancers who are training 24/7 never have to deal with divine outrage at all. It all comes down to how careful your being and I don't think becoming a Lich is going to be something that will heighten the threshold for your divine outrage rather than lower it.

The Original Plan(tm) was that going lich or transcending would pull you beyond the reach of smoting...smiting...smithing. At least mechanically as in day to day stuff that's how it's supposed to work. It was still an option for a GM to have one of the gods come down from on high and beat you up in person or whatever as RP and storylines demanded.
Re: The State of the Necros on 03/25/2017 10:27 PM CDT
I think we've had this conversation before, but I want to throw my character in as a data point - DO is not an issue, and I use trans buffs approximately 75% of the time I spend in game. Not just in combat, but in game. I dont think my experience is particularly unique.
Are you perchance recasting frequently? I constantly refresh, but each cast lasts 35+ minutes.

This seems odd to me. I would remember seeing a player getting smited constantly. Are you in Prime or Fallen? Did this happen recently?
I would think buff durations would even out your DO gain as you circled. For example early Necros might have to cast 5 times for every 1 time a capped necro had to cast. Are you maxing your buff duration?
Re: The State of the Necros on 03/29/2017 03:16 AM CDT
-Had a big post all typed up but deleted it, we've gone over this all before about buffs and DO and whatnot, if you guys have normal lives and don't spend obscene amounts of time in game then it all works great for you, I have no life due to my work schedule so I spend A LOT of time in game and DO only drains for a couple hours per 24. So let's just go back to what a previous player said and wait until this all shakes out then we can talk about whatever needs tweaked/changed/whatever.
Re: The State of the Necros on 03/29/2017 08:25 AM CDT
>>DO only drains for a couple hours per 24.
For what it's worth, the DO drain Necros get is the amount the GMs wanted to have drained in 24 hours, only compressed to the first few hours of a 24 hour cycle so Necros didn't have to stay logged in to get the full drain benefit.
Not saying we shouldn't have the drain amount reassessed or whatever, but for all intents and purposes the current amount is 24 hours worth of draining.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Re: The State of the Necros on 03/29/2017 10:58 AM CDT
The other thing about DO is if you pay attention to it and if you are casting trans spells in combat....24/7 as an HLC as someone pointed out, or jabbed at one, if you start muttering blasphemies, it's pretty simple...stop casting trans spells for say a day or so, stop doing rituals for say a day or so and if you are of the right circle, go and do a salt circle, so that you escape the immortals grasp. I have been smote, once when I became forsaken, once when I was muttering and used CF because I didn't have devour yet, both of those under 100th circle, and once when I got bonded at the one place that forsaken necros can get bonded because you get mad DO just going there. So even if you're draining some in the time you are in game, there are ways to make sure you don't get smote, even though if I remember correctly the DO floor drops for you after a certain circle.

You guys can derail a thread like none other.
Anyway, I find this to be very exciting news.
Personally, I'd love to get more information on the Risen and Social Outrage Rewrite updates. As a customer, the main thing that stopped me from rolling a necro was, what I felt, an inability for the guild to accumulate (and horde) high end items without reasonable fear of losing them. If the SO rewrite helps to alleviate some of this, at least to a small degree, then it might actually be time to join the dark side at long last.
Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

My necromancer has the fanciest things of all my DR characters. Between SRE, CRE and the changes to gripping things when you die the odds of losing anything other than ammo are pretty near 0%, imo.

Re: The State of the Necros on 04/03/2017 05:08 PM CDT
I lost a bunch of things by being naïve and leaving a grave in a public spot, that's pretty much the only way I can see losing items now. That or being arrested and heavily fined without any money... if you're able to afford 'nice' things though I would bet you have a decent horde of plats to avoid that. Also I had a lot of fun dealing with learning about social outrage getting beat up by mobs, thrown out the empath guild, etc. It may have been stressful at the time but it was part of the learning curve of the 'necro game' and added to the overall experience. One example; Having to run around frantically with a serious bleeder and no means to tend it, watching the vital signs tic down until I finally found a friendly empath - happened at a low level when I think it's actually the toughest, was a fun sticky RP situation. Took about a month to lose enough SO to use services again, I hadn't learned about JUSTICE yet and was just using common sense (silly me). A very unique DR experience I can't think of any other game that could match it, why I'm still around.
