This whole post takes place over a period of less than a second. DA wore off and I took 2 direct blows to the chest from a position where I was doing just fine.

* Calemnon was just struck down!
>
Your tower shield returns to its normal condition.
Your chain shirt returns to its normal condition.
Your great helm returns to its normal condition.
Your plate greaves return to its normal condition.
Your gauntlets return to its normal condition.
* Moving like a striking snake, a fendryad chops wide at you. You fail to dodge, leaning wrong and blundering into the blow. The axe lands a hard hit that tears a small cut on the back of your right hand, barely stunning you.
[You're battered, very badly balanced with opponent dominating.]
* Moving with powerful grace, a fendryad slices a rusting sap-stained axe at you. You fail to evade, moving directly into the blow. The axe lands a very heavy hit that explodes the heart and lungs with a bone-shattering blow to the chest.

The fendryad licks her lips, revealing jagged teeth. "Mmmm, tasty!" she cries before tearing a chunk of flesh from your right leg.
Your bastard sword falls to the ground.

Your death cry echoes in your brain as it quickly dawns on you that you have just died! Already, you feel the tug of eternity upon your spirit and you struggle to remain tied to this world.

You are somewhat comforted that you have gained favor with your God and are in no danger from passing on into the Starry Road forever.

Your body will decay beyond its ability to hold your soul in 240 minutes.
[You're extremely imbalanced]

Calemnon,

Not to be facetious but...

>>Your chain shirt returns to its normal condition.

I think you are forgetting that chain without DA = tin foil

I shudder sometimes to think of other guilds actually trying to "live" all of their lives in chain armor. I am amazed that they don't give up in disgust dying and/or coming out with missing body parts every hunting trip.

Every time I think armor doesn't give us much.. I go hunt in chain on my torso.. and come back and thank the Gods they gave us a bonus in HP.

Chain accessories is bad enough for getting hurt.. chain torso is asking for trouble when DA wears off.

Absorbtion + armor ranks= much fewer stuns.

Not getting stunned means yer less likely to take that critical killer hit.

I agree.. doing fine with little or no harm against a critter.. then having it kill ya in two hits just cause DA wore off is nasty.. but it does point up how good DA is for us, in almost any metal armor.

The problem is.. I think if you do get a response from a GM.. the response is going to be something along the lines of.. "Yep, working as designed".

For me.. that's why I stick to HP torso.. and leave chain and LP to the extremities.. less likely to get killed that way when DA wears off. I tend to loose more "body parts" like hands and legs.. but I'm not as likely to die when those hits land.

Because as we all know, small cuts to the hand hurt far more than say, getting a leg ripped off.

Oh, some of us make do...

>app my shirt

>The chain shirt is light chain.

>You feel certain that a chain shirt appears to impose fair maneuvering hindrance and offers:
high protection and great damage absorption for puncture attacks.
good protection and great damage absorption for slice attacks.
high protection and great damage absorption for impact attacks.

That's some special tin-alloy right there. I suddenly have this nagging need to taunt your plate's impact protection, weight, and hindrance, as well. Though, I am partial to plate accessories.

First, I don't think a hit to the hand should stun anybody or anything, unless it is chopped off.

Second, lack of DA may have been a bit of it. As in wouldn't have gotten stunned. But, doubt it has anything to do with whether you would or would not have gotten hit on the hand, only severity.

third, I would say that killing blow came from a second fen either flanking or behind and was a crit chest kill. Sometimes those crits still happen and if you had any measure of an internal chest wound that increases the probability. My rule of thumb. If the chest is bleeding internal beyond light don't go melee, you are just asking for a crit.

Didn't see you drop a shield or weapon. You tried to dodge both attacks. Food for thought, not know how good your evasion is against fens.

I really hope all armors get fixed one day, and HP is the king it should be and those wearing chain with special mixes wake up to find they're wearing the inferior armor they truly have. As it is, HC and HP can be made so close it's crazy.

I got her for ya

You jab a wickedly-edged glaes broadsword at a fendryad. A fendryad deflects some of the broadsword with a rusting sap-stained axe. The broadsword lands a light hit to the fendryad's right arm.
[You're incredibly balanced and have slight advantage.]
[Roundtime 1 sec.]
> draw
< You step backward and then slice at a fendryad. A fendryad barely fails to parry with a rusting sap-stained axe. The broadsword lands an awesome strike that rips through muscle and organs, cutting the foe cleanly in half.
A fendryad falls bonelessly to the ground, the fiery glare in her eyes slowly fading as she expires.
[You're incredibly balanced]
[Roundtime 2 sec.]

heh nothin wrong with my armor.

You feel certain that some deep crimson armor appears to impose great maneuvering hindrance and offers:
extreme protection and extreme damage absorption for puncture attacks.
extreme protection and extreme damage absorption for slice attacks.
high protection and extreme damage absorption for impact attacks.
great protection and extreme damage absorption for fire attacks.
high protection and extreme damage absorption for cold attacks.
good protection and extreme damage absorption for electrical attacks.

If you were only maneuvering in some deep crimson armor you would be unhindered.
But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently insignificantly hindered.

Michael.

I've always noticed that right after DA drops you seem to have a gap in your defenses enabling a critter or player to hit you when they normally wouldn't. A good test I've made was standing in pecs when I know good well they couldn't hit me put DA up and just danced with them a while, not even a harmless or glancing strike then as soon as DA dropped I'd get a hit or more depending on how many are on me.

Don't know the mechanics behind the spell but it does seem to effect your overall defense in some small way that makes you vulnerable at that point in time.

You mean do that thing they've been hinting about for awhile now? No, they'd never do that! <snicker> I'm just waiting for that day, the whines and moans will be, i feel, the loudest ever.

HP should be the best, we know it, they know it, get over it.

<<What about people who wear leather cause we can't hide too well in anything else?>>

It's called a disadvantage to having stuff that's easy to hide in. For us folks that are not able to hide and learn evasion very slowly, armor is a very important thing. So no, just because leather is easiest to hide in does not entitle you to have super protection.
