Any Orders or groups still functioning and running well in the realms today? Or have they all basically faded out in the last couple years? Specifically I'm asking about Paladin related factions, but any will suffice. Just curious.

Well, no particular paladin specific groups that I know of.

Of the Orders, I would say the Order of the Dragon Shield is the most active (Riverhaven group). Although, the Order of the Theren Guard is still active in Therenborough as well.

Mostly local militias are out and about nowadays (shame, wish the GMs would focus on Orders and drop the militia stuff). Let's see:

Zoluren: Has a ton of units. I like the Black Pearls about the best (personal opinion) let by a paladin (Ocelott) who you probabbly know.

Ilithi: One militia run by a great group of folks (Xand, Porm, Pfan and Leucius). Top notch folks IMO and would be a good outfit.

Islands: Are just now starting up militias, so you will need to get that info from another source. Don't know much about them.

Theren: Northern Watch (you did the training session with us last night), Cavalary (can talk to Gwenddolyn or Barola) and the Baron's Own (based in Riverhaven....has to be my favotire name out there). There will be a fourth militia unit starting in Therengia as well...a archery unit.

That is about as much as I know, hope it helps.

I have several newb questions i want to get answered

Kaldar Paladin, Circle: 1.

1) I've noticed ive done a few tasks that affected what i am refering to as my "soul state".
IE, ambushing negative, tending people's wounds, positive.

What are the affects to your skills by soul state?

What are some typical actions that will cause soul state change?

2) As our magic goes, I'm considering going, Courage-> Righteous Wrath as my first two spells. I was wondering if we have Targeted Spells in our arsenal? Or are they all "stat contested" spells?

3) Since we're armor primary, we get to wear up to a large shield on our arm? What are the rank requirements for the sizes, i cant equip medium size yet (which is what im using), so i've gone with strictly 1 handed weapons.

Thank you, that is all.

>>1) I've noticed ive done a few tasks that affected what i am refering to as my "soul state".

There's a whole soul section of http://www.drpaladin.com that lists most of the positive and negative actions. A general rule of thumb is to not do anything that would be considered dishonorable such as advancing or attacking from hiding, fleeing battle via FLEE or stealing. Things that would help others or strengthen our bond with the gods such as tending others, dropping at least 10 coppers in the tithe boxes in the guilds, or praying on a pilgrim's badge.

>>2) As our magic goes, I'm considering going, Courage-> Righteous Wrath as my first two spells. I was wondering if we have Targeted Spells in our arsenal? Or are they all "stat contested" spells?

That's a good progression, although I'd personally get Anti-Stun before RW. It's great not having to worry about chain stuns bringing you down, especially when you're as hindered by your armor as you are when you start out and therefore unable to retreat.

You should be able to wear large shields as soon as you join the guild, just make sure that it's ADJUSTed to be able to be worn on your left arm instead of on the shoulder. Whether you want to start out with a large shield is another question -- I'd recommend going oval, kite, and then tower, switching every 30 ranks. This way you'll take advantage of the shield's protection without being so hindered by a bigger shield that the extra protection you'd gain wouldn't be worth it.

I believe for a large shield you need to be at least 4th circle to wear it on the arm. Don't know about mediums.

I second that opinion. Also, IMO your first three spells should be Courage, AS and RW. Those will be your base spells for basically all fighting (invasion or regular). From there, just personal preference, but I would get Divine Armor, Smite Foe and Halt (in no particular order, although I would recommend DA first).

Good luck.

You need Halt to get DA to get Shatter to get SF, so the order is fairly set in stone. ;)

Alternately you might want to consider going the Holy Warrior route (Sentinel's Resolve, 20th circle, HoW) depending on your hunting style (DA = offense, HoW = defense is how it's been explained to me).

All of them are stat-contested. The entire SvX spell model is going to be reviewed, though, so there's a possiblity that our damage-dealing spells may be converted to the TM model. As you're just starting out I recommend listening to as many TM classes as you can just in case that situation does happen (and if it doesn't the extra TDPs won't hurt). This way your TM won't be too far behind the rest of your magics should our damage-dealing spells become TM and we don't get any TM ranks grandfathered.

Vista is not allowing me to use or save scripts properly. Any suggestion of what I should do or use to get scripts to work once more?

Bad juju with Vista. Go to the main forum page, and there is a subfolder on accessing the game. There was a thread about 8 months ago or such that discusses Vista issues. I would start there. Also, you can email the GM that handles that subfolder and I bet he/she will help you via direct email (he/she seems really helpful in the subfolder).

Good luck.

Also make sure all your pathways are correct. Vista changes the names of folders if you imported them over :/ Also the default naming convention XP uses names the folders different if you did a fresh install then Vista does. Your Stormfront settings default to the XP version. It's not "smart" enough yet to realize it shoudl switch the pathways to Vista as well.

Hi. I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was unable to find the question.. I've not found this info on any DR site I know of, so if this is against the rules to ask, I apologize in advance. What circles do we gain spells? I'm currently 19th, and am eagerly awaiting Bond Weapon to keep those darned sand sprites from makin me drop my sword. Someone told me 25th was the next new spell slot, if that's the case I'm probably not gonna get a lot of use from BW in sprites, so am asking here for final confirmation.

Every four circles after the first (which is 5th if I recall). Next one for you should be 21st.

20 disc is the magic number for sprites to not tingle you (Or at least it is according to my friend I was talking to when it came up over lunch randomly, I've never hunted them).

>>20 disc is the magic number for sprites to not tingle you (Or at least it is according to my friend I was talking to when it came up over lunch randomly, I've never hunted them).

DEFENSE:
I was in sand sprites before/about 50 ranks in armor (plate and chain produced pretty much identical results with chain allowing slightly more damaging hits through than plate), before/about 50 ranks in MO, before/about 50 ranks in shield, before/about 50 ranks in parry, and less than 30 ranks in evasion. Using nothing but pure base ranks, I had like a 0.05% chance of death as almost nothing ever got past the armor. Sand sprites were easily able to bust through my stances, however, so I was getting hit messaging every single swing by a sprite.

OFFENSE:
I was in sand sprites before/about 50 ranks in my highest-trained weapon (heavy-edged), with other weapon skills ranging from just under my main (forties) all the way down to while-locked trainers with 10-20 ranks. I could hit and destroy sand sprites in a 1-on-1 situation. 2 sprites were noticeably harder, but still fell fairly regularly. 3 sprites were difficult to land hits on, but if the modifiers were at ideal levels (no wounds, no burden, etc) I usually could slowly kill them using pure base ranks. I'm not much into magic, but with only a couple handfuls of magic skill (less than 20 in HA, PM, TM, and PP) I had no problem landing TM spells (causing enough damage to matter was entirely another story given my ranks, though.)

To really go to town on sprites whenever you want, though, requires about 60-70 ranks in the weapon of your choice.

TINGLE:

With 16 discipline, it definitely happened. It succeeded about as rarely as getting injured by a sprite, and most of the time I was even able to pick the weapon back up before any other sprite even took a swing. Most of the casts either had nothing happen (failed cast) or they were interfered with in some way due to how critter spellcasting works. As a result, Tingle almost never was a significant factor.

EXPERIENCE:

As a paladin, armor primary and weapon secondary meant I could stay in combat as long as I wanted to as a player. No mind murking at all, and it was uncommon that I even dropped over to fluid. As an empath with slightly less skill than the paladin, I was able to pretty much lock all skills brought to bear within 1-2 minutes.

DAMAGE:

6+ sprites were largely unable to get past my armor. As such, I could hunt sprites at those levels all day long without having to munch herbs or leave to see an empath. As I usually only play for 4-6 hours at a time, when I have to leave sometimes I've not even got past the point where you lose the "you have no significant injuries" message in HEALTH and in all cases I never got past middle ranges of wounds (ie, no bleeders).

I find this site very helpful. Check under circle reqs.

http://www.drpaladin.com/index.htm

Dont have BW and no plans on getting it except maybe to fill a spell slot. I say pick a spell that helps you in as many situations as possible rather than the limited cases of getting tingled, throwing your weapon, or otherwise losing it. Save the niche spells for later when you dont want to leave a spell slot open.

I like brawling plus we count as blessed weapons. Helps if you cant find a cleric to bless or dont want to waste time on the holy weapon.

The spellbook will be redone soon (meaning between now and never)so you can always take BW and dump it later if ya dont like.
