It is sad that this is the least commented on folder that we have . This of all folders should be stuffed full and back logged with entries in my opinion . I am not saying that we are having problems qualifying for good deeds or praise . But rather we are not taking the time to either notice the actions of others , or are just not making the effort to submit an "atta Paladin" on this subject . I for one believe there is alot of good deeds that Paladins do everyday that are taken for granted or overlooked as commonplace , such as the warding and glyphing and bonding of weapons during invasions. There are those Paladins who make the time to stop and do those simple things who never expect gratuities or the like ... they do it out of a sense of duty , honor , and good old fashioned kindness. So I for one would like to give praise to those selfless individuals first . They very much deserve it .
Also , elder Paladins , (I am still not an elder Paladin,... can we say ...DENIAL....) , a good word from you here in this folder can make a world of difference to a younger knight aspirant when the feelings of frustration and "wheel spinning" stage kicks in . Lets make sure to point out the high points that they have done as there are way too many folders focused upon the low points in Elanthia.

" by the hundreds and thousands the enemy threw the fury of storms upon these stoddard souls,...the last line of defense. ...
not unlike the winter squall's rage that pounds the cliff's , screams echo with haunting -human likeness in the gale winds
Steel they don,.. Blades they weild ,.. forged in hellfire , purified by faith,..no loathings ,nor contempt clouds the mind ,... resolute,... never to succum ,... no matter the opposition
They stand ,...
They are as the cliff ,......
They are as the earth,....
They shall not yeild,.....

They are Paladins "

Teil,

I do good deeds and I do bad deeds. I aint in it for the fame, I aint in it for the recognition for good deeds (forging is quite different). I do it cause its right. I dont care if someone praises me. I fail to see what that does for anyone. To each thier own, I personally see no reason to praise anyone, my philosophy is just like Nike, just do it.

Your right about that, even if they dont say it does, you would be surprised how much it means for you to just take the 2 seconds to assure someone with some kinds words of praise or thanks.

There is nothing at all wrong with praising anyone you wish for anything to like. If you want to praise someone just because they always say "hi" everytime they see you ...then by all means please do, it just might make their day when they think no one notices it.

Clyn....even if you did not mean it to sound negative your post does a bit and kinda has a discouraging tone to posting good deeds and praises. If you fail to see why or you dont want to post praises fine.

I dont think its a good idea to post negative in this folder or try to discourage someone from posting praise.

I would like to thank Teil for his post and inspiration.

I see myself as an elder paladin. So its was a direct result. My point was that i dont care for praises. I dont do things to hear people thank me. I do it cause thats what i think a paladin does. He or She helps people. Thats all that is needed. I didnt say its wrong for other people to feed appreciated. But thats why some older ones might not care. I think i can safely assess that people on the upper tier of circles and time spent here dont care if they say "Hey Relayer what you did wow, YOU ROCK. Or Ciroce thanks for giving me a hand thier that was the best." Not to say that isnt good to say. But it doesnt always have to be said. Because we know the people are happy and thats pretty much thanks itself. I drop lots of my forged goods in different guilds and places all over the realms. I put alot of excess weapons, give money to people who ask or just give full gem pouches. Not asking for thanks or anything. I give it and walk away. I do it cause there is a need and a general good feeling to do it. Are praises good. YES they are anyone and everyone wants to be wanted and appreciated. I know i want that for my work in the forge when i come out with something that no one else does. But as a paladin I dont think i need thanks i dont need to be recognized as a do gooder cause i did this one act. I think my overall actions as a paladin should speak for itself.

I do lots of good, and i can be very mean. Its who I am.

I have to agree with Cly here. I do what I do because I feel its right to do so, not because I want peoples praise and adoration. Additionally, I see this as a OOC medium for IC stuff. As such if I feel people in the game deserve praise I give it to them there, not on the boards...

I do the same IC. I wasnt talking about how we(70+ palys) act or about anyone praising us. I was refering to this point...

I was wanting good words from us to the younger members as Teil mentioned.

Im not saying everyone start posting everyday in this folder....just once in a while wouldnt hurt.

Understood. However, another problem I see is giving praise to some, and not to others, who might be doing similar or even more noteworthy actions. I wouldn't want anyone to feel that just because I haven't given them a big gooey kudos that they must be doing something wrong...As such I reserve my praise directly for actions I witness firsthand...

That is what I was thinking when we first got this folder.....maybe we should just get rid of it now.....catch 22

If most of the higher paladins dont see any use for it or just wont post in it ....I dont see it being much good after that.

Especially after Clynlyn and Lennon both post that they wont post in it, sending a message to the younger paladins whom, most likely, will follow that example and not post either.

my point which i'll state slightly differently. Is not to DETER from praising. Rather my personal opinion is that praising isnt necessary. We all know that we helped each other. I dont think one paladin helpign another is justified as praise. Do you help your family? I sure as hell do. There is no real need for a thank you. It is always implied. I would rather see others outside who we helped to say thank you. If it were to be used.

Again people will use this folder if it stays. My opinion is not the only valid one. I am one of many. I am just saying i wont truely voice my praise of good deeds here. I dont think thier is a need to say Phanton good job for helping a new person out. Or Glemm wow you da man you helped someone.

its not neccessary in my opinion. I am sure others would disagree. And the best way to prove your point is to continue praising. I just wont.

People post what they want to post. If a person does not want to post it doesn't mean it influences any others. There are those out there that deserve praise and those that just like a thankyou. I honastly would not post a praise here because 1) that person probably doesn't read this folder and 2) I feel praising them in person is much more effective then on the boards.

Clyn, Lennon, Ciroce, and others that I know do things because that's who they are. They don't need me to praise them, and I don't need them to praise me for what we do. We do things because that's who we are.

Let this rest already, people will praise who they want and where and how they want. We don't have any right telling them whether or not it has a point or is useful. I know some people who like being praised, I for one don't care for it.

well ,.. reading these posts I think that we have established the individuality of these persons,... and as you said Clynlyn ,... just do it,...
I did,.. I spoke my thoughts and I stand by them ,.. as an elder paladin you should not expect to see Kudo's in this folder .... you said it again ,.. its just what we do,.... but there more Paladins in our guild than the elders,... sometimes the elders forget that,... being self absorbed in the tasks at hand . (shrugs) Just do it,...

And as far as who is mentioned ?... that is about the petty ,..lol,.. these are open boards,.. ANYONE can write in them ,... if someone writes a kudo great,... if someone else feels left out ,.. well then ,.. maybe they should try do something that they feel especially good about and maybe they can get a kudo as well,... or maybe they can just grow up.... this isnt a race ,.. or a contest ,.. or a popularity contest,.. it is a place to say ,.... that was cool of so and so to do whatever they did,.. or a group of people ,.... or what ever ,...

If Clynlyn .. you want to be you ,... do so ,.. and just dont contribute to this folder,... its that simple ,... Lennon ,.. if you are worried about it becoming a popularity contest,.. write a couple kudos and have them on stanby just in case,....LOL

Walk the path the feels right in your hearts. Speak words worthy of rememberance. Do deeds that you know are right for each circumstance.
If we all strive for this mind set we will know our own praise within ourselves and we will know when to tell others that their deeds are noteworthy.

Heh I didn't have this folder when I was growing up... Back then I had to walk barefoot from Shard t' Theren in 6 feet of snow to get any praise or recognition, and even then it was a rare occurance. And look at me now, I turned out just fine ::grins::

--Just a Squire

P.S. There are many individuals younger than me that I think are doing a great job as a Paladin, but in my opinion they don't need my praise in order to know this.

Nahh I only argue when I see a problem with something someone says, either if I don't agree with it or it seems a bit one-sided. If someone had praised me I would probably have agreed with them =P

This folder is a place where people don't have to be so negative all the time. I don't read many posts anymore not because they aren't good or informative but they are negative, and life is too short to worry about it. =P

Hege, who thinks alot of Paladins do good deeds in game, and just take everything out on each other here on the boards.

The funny thing about these guys is every different folder becomes a conflict one. Maybe we should rename them all. Good Deeds and Praise conflicts. Good deeds and praise conflicts theory. ANd this sounds a lot like a self-help place. Everyone keeps saying what they praise or what they don't praise and how they think praise should be or whatever. Self-help good deeds and praise. Nice name too. I'd like to praise Gad for wanting folks to praise us youngies. Seems not all the big ole folks are insensitive behind all those ranks.
Thanks Gad.

I've heard and observed nothing but good from you Phanton. I'de like to thank you for being an wonderful example to young and elder alike, and to encourage you to keep doing what you are doing. I am very quite IG but I do notice alot. Keep the faith brother, someone will be there for you even if you dont know it.

I just spent 2 months back in xing area after being gone a very long time and noticed many other younger paladins doing great work.

Thanks to Teil for starting this thread and thanks to Phanton for posting his opinion, and thanks to all the others doing good work who think no one notices.....someone does. Also thanks to Charah and Relayer for words of wisdom.

Keep the faith,

Sometimes keeping ones thoughts to themselves speaks volumes, specially with some of the older Paladins. Positive reinforcment of our brotherhood and its actions seem to go a long way from where I come from.
