>Is the spirit hit for Truffenyi's Rally hitting you every time you get a balance adjustment? If so, could you c/p the spell messaging into the thread?

No, sir. The -spirit component only applies to the dispel function of the spell. It applies with every dispel pulse on the paladin and/or his group members, which may or may not occur at the same rate as the balance pulses. I want to give you a better answer, but I don't have a person available right now with whom I can test it.

Since most guilds against which the dispel may be useful focus on keeping you continuously debilitated for the duration of the fight and/or cyclical debilitation is a thing, there's no break in the -spirit pulses. If people didn't use cyclical debilitation spells or if we could "release cyclic" when incapacitated, it might not feel so punitive. The problem with dispelling cyclical debilitation, in particular, is it's reapplied rather quickly.

Not many critters use debilitation magic, so I consider this more of a PvP component of the spell.

Here's an example from a log of the type of death I'm talking about:

You are still stunned.

S!R>
Having inspired your follower with the ardor of the Holy, your balance improves.
You feel your spirit surge outward. A gentle warmth washes over you as your expanding aura sloughs off a harmful influence.
S!R> l
[Prairie, Sunbeam Circle]
Blue cornflowers appear as tiny soldiers infiltrating the confines of one resident's modest garden. Visible in the lamplight from a nearby homestead, chalk dust outlines a rudimentary hopscotch course for use by the neighborhood's children when boredom strikes. Creaking tree branches and whispering leaves accompany the hummed lullabies gliding through opened windows.
You also see a large farmstead, a large farmstead, a large farmstead and a large farmstead.
Also here: Heresiarch Uritel who is emanating a bright holy aura.
Obvious paths: southwest, west, northwest.
S!R> heal

Your body feels extremely beat up.
Your spirit feels lifeless.
You are slightly fatigued.
You have minor swelling and bruising around the left leg compounded by cuts and bruises about the left leg, severely swollen and bruised chest area compounded by deep cuts across the chest area, minor swelling and bruising in the abdomen compounded by cuts and bruises about the abdomen, some tiny scratches to the back, a severely swollen, bruised and crossed right eye compounded by a bruised, swollen and bleeding right eye.

You're stunned!

S!R>
You shake off the stun!

!R>
You ponder briefly the idea that such a loss to your spirit should have stirred some sentiment, but you are intensely distracted by the sound of your heart not beating.

Your spirit is weakened beyond its ability to sustain your body!

PR>
You feel fully rested.

You see Uritel start to back off just as you lose consciousness. The challenge has been satisfied!

Then it was lots of:

You're unconscious!

[You're dying. If you wish to release your hold on life: RELEASE LIFE.]
You're unconscious!

Followed by:

You ponder briefly the idea that such a loss to your spirit should have stirred some sentiment, but you are intensely distracted by the sound of your heart not beating.

Your spirit is weakened beyond its ability to sustain your body!

A soft red glow appears over your body.
A light silvery glow surrounds your Dwarven greataxe and it stays in your hand.
Truffenyi's Rally ends, leaving behind a momentary sensation of something stuck in your throat.
release all
The dull orange glow fades from you.
The field of silver-blue light dissipates from around you. The sense of calm focus leaves you, and your joints feel strangely stiffer than before.
You sense the invisible magic guarding you fade.
You feel your righteous rage dissipate.
You sense the Rutilor's Edge spell fade away.
Your eyes briefly darken. When you regain sight, the graphs and sigils previously impressed upon your vision have disappeared.
Your extra strength deserts you as the glistening net unravels from your body.
Your sense of protection leaves you.
You feel the knowledge of the Divine Radiance and Major Physical Protection spells slip from your mind.
Your death cry echoes in your brain as it quickly dawns on you that you have just died! Already, you feel the tug of eternity upon your soul and you struggle to remain tied to this world.

A chill takes the seat of your soul as your remaining spiritual strength bleeds away steadily. However, you are comforted that you have curried the favor of your god, which will greatly improve the course of your resurrection or reincarnation.

Your body will decay beyond its ability to hold your soul in 10 minutes.

I made some changes to TR that should help out a bit.

First, the dispels will no longer fire if your spirit reaches a certain point of loss. I suppose it is still possible to die from spirit loss under this change, but it would be pretty hard to do. With this change, you won't have to worry about releasing the spell and losing out on the balance boost if you are constantly losing spirit.

Second, I added a minor reduction in spirit loss based on how pristine your soul is, so those pure of spirit will lose less spirit each pulse.

Finally, I reduced the slot cost to 4.

Not a problem, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a huge bug in the system. I'm conceptually OK with the spirit hit on dispel, but it stood to have some adjustment, which I believe Ricinus just did.

Can't wait to try it out, but I'm really happy about the sound of those changes. Thank you, Ricinus.

There's the problem there. Uritel has the effect of causing one's spirit to die...

Thank you for looking into it so quickly. Much appreciated!

It definitely sounds better, but I am still very unlikely to spend 4-spell slots on it. If it was something that would actually be useful for normal hunting (read: the balance boost was noticeable and the mana drain not so severe) I might.

Just an observation, but you might be well served by a fatigue inducing ability/spell, it would actually make a prolonged fight beneficial to a paladin if every shield block caused the attacker additional fatigue loss to a 50% eventual cap, that would reduce off/def as the fight went on for the attacker with out being excessive and would apply to all engaged, making it decent for PvE regular use.

Cheers.

I'd like to advocate the idea of paladins tiring opponents out. Good post!

That's an interesting idea.

As pointed out by a couple other posters, Paladins tend to have the ability to last a long time in battle, but the way the fatigue system in the game works, there's no real bonus for doing so (nor is there a penalty). So a spell that perhaps utilizes charisma, stamina, and the endurance skill (if it ever comes out) from the paladins side, against stamina, charisma, and perhaps defending from the opponents side, might be interesting.

Ricinus, I tried out TR yesterday at impromptu spars and the dispel spirit cost felt so much better. I let spirit dip low to test, and I never really felt like I was in danger. Spirit pulses were still big after a time and spirit dropped low enough to get a few low spirit stuns, but it took longer and no spirit death... I can deal with that any day. Thank you for the changes.

Yeah, the only way to self-murder with the spell now would be through creative use of Soul Shield.
