I was surprised to see that Atheina was awake last night. For those of you who don't know who she is, she was Baron Jeladric's Special Envoy that read a proclamation announcing the first Theren festival in honor of the restoration of the chapel in Theren Keep. After that she was sent by the Baron to assist Darius in investigating the Gemstone Murders, where people were found murdered along the Northern Trade Route with a cryptic note and a gemstone in their hand. To my knowledge the murders remain unsolved, but a relationship developed between the two Paladin investigators. Atheina wasn't heard from again until last night.

Like Darius the night before, she died a few times, arousing suspicion. However, unlike Darius, she soon walked the Starry Road. Supposedly she cried out Darius's name before being stuck down. Hearing that Darius was sighted in Muspar'i, an expedition went out to the Velaka to make sure that he was safe. When we got to the barge, an Elven squire was standing there, but our party hopped on board one of the barges awaiting whatever fate may face us in the desert.

A Moon Mage traveling with us on the barge did a locate on Darius, and ironically he was on the other barge heading back to Hvaral. After a quick Moongate we joined the despondent guildleader, still clutching Atheina's shift. When we arrived at the dry dock, we met Squire Palorn, the Elf we noticed on our way out who was in fact waiting for her guildleader on behalf of Representative Verika. After a few Moongates we arrived in Haven.

Darius didn't want to meet with Verika, because he was sure it would involve an appearance before the Council. He told Palorn to go back to Verika with the news, and to report to the Baron that "he was right about me." It seems Darius and Atheina were on a mission in the Velaka, but for the council or the Baron I'm not sure. Darius then declared that he had a mission to complete that only he could take. He instructed Palorn to tell Verika to take up his office in the Crossing Guildhall until he returned, and he stressed that the position was only temporary. With that Palorn headed to the Noble Inn to inform Verika, and Darius headed out of Riverhaven to parts unknown.
