i think having guardsman and guardswoman is just silly.
a female guardsman is still a guardsman, the title is generic.

I agree about the female titles. I dislike seeing "journeywomen" walking about. But I might just be weird. I call female actors "actors" and I call female flight attendants "stewards" (or "flight attendants") and I prefer the terms "police officer" to "policeman" and "firefighter" to "fireman"... Just to avoid "policewoman" and "firewoman" because they feel demeaning to me.

Guards are just Guards, not guardsmen or guardswomen.
All police officers are simply cops.
In the movies, all firefighters are men. At least from the movies I've seen.

No one is forcing you to use the titles and there are plenty of others to choose from.
