Alright, as far as jousting goes, the biggest skill that makes a difference is a polearm skill of your choice. Pick either pike or halberd... I picked halberd since at the time all of the good lances were halberds, but that seems to have changed lately so it's up to you. Halberds still have the most damage capacity though, so easier to train.
The other skill is shield. Many paladins these days train shield as their primary armor skill. With arm shields, I'd recommend doing so to every paladin for practical purposes, as it's our best defense in combat, but it is also a major skill for jousting. Since most paladins have tons of shield already, the main skill that makes a difference in a joust against similar circled paladins is the polearm skill, though.
There are other factors as well. I've tested and concluded that the protection value of the shield used is a significant factor... the crescent tower shield is much much better than an ironwood buckler for jousting. Another factor that I just recently discovered is that have a saddle on your horse is a decent factor. I don't think stance is a factor but it wouldn't help to be using 100 shield rest in evasion just in case I'm wrong. I don't think plate armor skill is a factor, but it is necessary to wear plate on head and chest if you don't want to jump off your horse.
That's about it mostly.... anything I missed?

2HE are not polearms and should not be pole ranged. It totally eliminated the entire purpose of having polearms at all... but that's a whole other argument.
There's only one jousting class... it is merely taught to both the paladin and the paladin's horse. I've never heard of an "advanced jousting" class.

The one I call advanced is one that isn't or wasn't available to be taught from stablemasters to paladins but was introduced by some NPC and needs to be passed to other people that way.
Also, never use a weapon that you wouldn't want breaking. I would strongly advise against ever using anything but the blunted lances.
