A few questions.
<<It is once again possible to recharge your Holy Weapon at the Eye of Chadatru.>>
Why did it take years to fix this? Huge technical problem? A decision that the benefits were not worth the effort required? Or was this a paladin problem so it always came last?
<<Also, the timer for subsequent recharges has been reduced to one hour from three. This was something GM Godrich tweaked but never rolled out.>>
How long? How long did it take for a GM to notice this fix gathering dust?
Where were the pali GMs during this? Isnt following up on changes to pali stuff their job?
Thanks for your work Grejuva. Too bad it was mostly cleaning up after GMs.

Dude, stop nerd raging and just be happy that you got something fixed. It's not like these guys get a paycheck to do what they do.

They play for free meaning I and the rest of the paying customers are paying for ourselves and the GMs accounts. While its not a paycheck I still consider that paid. Besides, being a volunteer doesnt exempt you from having to do the job. Also, the people in charge are getting paychecks and part of their job is supervising the volunteers.
<<Because of posts like this.>>
The GMs are punishing the many because they are angry at the few? Interesting.
<<Why would you even make a post like that?>>
The best way to keep bureaucrats honest is to ask them questions every now and then. You can also learn to make better decisions by discussing past decisions. There is also that free speech thing.
Maybe I was curious how people would react. Would there be debate? Would there be name calling? Would the paladin guild be punished? Do the GMs have some great answers? I dont know but i would like to.

The paladin guild isn't being "punished". We had a GM rewriting our entire spell library that left. Our guild advocate is gone as well. Other gms have stepped up to help when we had literally nobody on board.
You pay for the game as it is. You do not pay for what you think the game should be. You are not "owed" anything because you shell out a monthly fee. Accept that and move on.

This. But also know that over the past two years we've had one of the, if not the most talented, gifted, and dedicated staff I've ever seen. The paladin guild needs some love, certainly, and there isn't a single staff member who doesn't know this.
They don't need to be bullied or whined at.

Without question. Hang in there a bit longer. In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate if some long-time paladin players could test out the current combat tweaks in the test instance and let me know how things are working on the paladin end. In particular, I'd prefer some low-level paladins (under 15th) compare how their defenses work in Test to how they work in Prime.

Long time paladin players under 15th? Not sure how many of those there are!
I will gladly pop in to test things out(am a tad over 15th tough!), I was not aware there was new tweaks live in test. What in particular should I be paying attension to?

Survivability, mostly. Both evasion and parry have undergone several tweaks there, and I need to know if either seem way off. Due to the way armor hindrance now works in Test, paladins should be in far better shape than anyone else when it comes to the performance of their defensive skills.

Well, hunting like normal, I seemed fine on test. I danced with 3 celpeze for awhile and didnt get hit much at all. 3 is normally pushing it for me. I turned my parry stance up and evasion down, to test parry (I normally dont use much parry) and got ripped to shreds even though my parry is higher then evasion. My shield blocks definately started failing with evasion stanced down too (I wish this was not how it worked).
Not sure I cared for new fatigue, with my states and courage up I would have hoped I could keep up with it, but it did slowly drain down to a point of concern. If that happens for me I cannot imagine the nightmare it might be fore smaller people. But since I cant test that I wont assume.

Re: Some questions about the Holy Weapon fixes on 07/20/2009 07:58 PM CDT
<<My general reaction to people who troll boards just looking for reactions is to put them on ignore and move on.>>
Reasonable policy. Curiosity about reactions is about 5 percent of my reasons for any of my posts. My primary reason is I dont think the GMs are communicating effectively with each other and they arent properly supervised. If they were there wouldnt have been suprise about the 100th circle protect. If they were a holy weapon fix wouldnt have been gathering dust in the corner. Thats why I am asking questions about who knew what and when.
I think the paladin guild is the "somebody elses" problem that the GMs never bothered to follow up on to make sure somebody had dealt with it. I think the pali guild holds the lowest slot on the GM to do list. I dont think its malicious but more a combination of other work, other interests, and pali GMs who lacked the technical skills to do the work the guild needed.
<<The paladin guild isn't being "punished".>>
I dont consider the state of the pali guild to be a reward. If its so dandy why do the GMs feel bad? Because the pali guild is stagnant, broken, and outdated and its that way due to a long string of GM decisions. Do i think they sit around in their fortress of terror twirling their wax mustaches planning the pali guilds doom? Nope. Do i think that they let their anger influence their decisions? Why else would a GM post he wasnt going to work on the pali spells partially blaming it on customers who wouldnt want his work? Sounds to me like he read some posts he didnt like, got angry, made a decision, and the pali guild is paying the price. The many are being punished because someone is angry at the few.
<<We had a GM rewriting our entire spell library that left.>>
I didnt ask a question about that but since you brought it up. As long as he did a good turnover with his coworkers I have no complaints about him leaving. He posted saying he was going which I appreciate. True, its inconvenient but his reasons for quitting had to be profound otherwise he wouldnt have. Figure my inconveniences is pretty meager compared to his probs.
You think the crossing recharge point was broken for years because of him? Or was that just something you brought up to muddy the waters? Interesting.
<<Our guild advocate is gone as well.>>
I missed that post which is odd since I check the pali forums fairly regular. Could you tell me what pali folder its under and do you know who has been designated her replacement? I do hope they did a good turnover tho it doesnt seem so with the weapon fix and protect surprises.
<<You do not pay for what you think the game should be.>>
I pay for customer service. Asking who knew what and when falls under that. If my service provider employees seem to not be communicating amongst themselves then its very reasonable for me to ask them some questions.
I didnt decide that there would be a crossing recharge point and I didnt decide to leave it broken for years. Asking for an explanations isnt demanding the guild be my way. Its more a maintenance issue and customers can ask about that.
<<But also know that over the past two years we've had one of the, if not the most talented, gifted, and dedicated staff I've ever seen. >>
And yet the crossing recharge point was broken for years. How do you reconcile that? By asking about it Im giving them an opportunity to tell us about their efforts and the work they put in. Lets hear about the massive effort, sleepless night, and lives lost to get it fixed. Im also giving them a chance to admit they dropped the ball. Tell us about how Ted was going to fix it but he went out for smokes and never came back and then they kinda forgot about it.
I hope that it was a cost benefits decisions. That the punishement to the other players would have been more that the punishment to the palis. Needs of the many and all that. Besides, it would be very paladin. I hope that but i dont believe it. I think the buck got passed again and again.
<<They don't need to be bullied or whined at.>>
I have not yelled, cursed or called names. Ive even skipped on the sarcasm which is very difficult for me. I have asked who knew what and when. If you consider that bullying and whining please explain.

This will be changing as soon as I can finish overhauling the core shield mechs. Once all three defenses are on the same core, I can (in theory, at least) redo the order of priority so that your best defense is your "first line" defense.

This is going to turn into a conflict pretty quickly.
<<I think the pali guild holds the lowest slot on the GM to do list.>>
"What you think" goes against the statements of the GMs who are actively working to help out our guild. They've said it themselves IN THIS VERY THREAD. Besides that, you're a little late to the "woe is me" Paladin Guild rant. If this was 2000, complaining that you need to lie down in crocs to learn armor, you'd be much more on the mark.
<<I dont consider the state of the pali guild to be a reward. If its so dandy why do the GMs feel bad? Because the pali guild is stagnant, broken, and outdated and its that way due to a long string of GM decisions.>>
From what I gather, the GMs involved in the system rewrite "feel bad" about our guild because our guild predicament has become more obvious as the game has grown and combat in general has become more biased toward offense and hiding. Our primary skillset doesn't really mesh with this design and they've identified that and are trying to fix it.
Why do you have a problem with this? If you don't, and you're merely complaining about us not having development in the past, save it, because it does not matter right now.
<<I didnt ask a question about that but since you brought it up. As long as he did a good turnover with his coworkers I have no complaints about him leaving. <<You think the crossing recharge point was broken for years because of him? Or was that just something you brought up to muddy the waters? Interesting.>>
Uh, no. I think some of our concerns were falling on deaf ears for a bit as Maece was dealing with her stuff. Now, GMs familiar with overall DR systems have stepped up to pick up the slack and it was fixed. "Interesting" indeed. Durr.
<<I missed that post which is odd since I check the pali forums fairly regular. Could you tell me what pali folder its under and do you know who has been designated her replacement?>>
Don't think I missed your snarkyness in this post. It was a brief GM post in the responses to GM announcements in the Discuss with Simu folder about Maece taking a leave of absence for personal reasons. Since you browse the forums so much, how about you point your browser over to that folder and find it. Good job. Bravo.
<<I pay for customer service. Asking who knew what and when falls under that. If my service provider employees seem to not be communicating amongst themselves then its very reasonable for me to ask them some questions. >>
The customer service owed to you by Simutronics includes making sure your billing is in order and fixing things keeping you from playing the game AS IT IS. Nobody needs to explain anything to you regarding one thing that isn't coded or fixed to your satisfaction.
<<I have not yelled, cursed or called names. Ive even skipped on the sarcasm which is very difficult for me. I have asked who knew what and when. If you consider that bullying and whining please explain.>>
Boy, thanks for skipping the sarcasm. I'm sure it would be really biting and clever.
You're whining because you expect things you are not entitled to.
You're complaining to volunteers that they haven't devoted enough time to enhancing your gaming experience.
Get a grip, man. Things will get fixed when they get fixed. Either make constructive posts without the venom or don't post. We used to have a lot of players like you (myself included) that got all bent out of shape because the game wasn't what they thought it should be. There are not many games out there where YOU as a player can have as much as an impact on game design as you do. You take that for granted and need a reality check.
Posts like yours make GMs not want to work for us. So do the rest of the guild a favor and not post.
Thanks.

I think the pali guild is in a bad state because the GMs have put it last for years. I do remember them saying the 5 big things were the exp changes, mana changes, Lyras event, combat changes and then the pali guild. Pali guild was last on the list. Are we getting closer to the pali guild being first on the list? Yes. Is the pali guild still last? Yes. Is it an improvement? Very much so. Last on the short list is way better than last on the long list.
<<Uh, no. I think some of our concerns were falling on deaf ears for a bit as Maece was dealing with her stuff. Now, GMs familiar with overall DR systems have stepped up to pick up the slack and it was fixed. "Interesting" indeed. Durr.>>
I asked why did it take so long to fix the recharge point and who knew what when. That you brought up Ssras departure was interesting to me. You thought his leaving had an effect, that talking about him wasnt directly related to my questions but helped you with your side of the debate, some mixture of the 2 or something I havent considered. I honestly found that interesting. That reviewing the holy weapon stuff had gotten lumped in with him rewriting the spellbooks had not occurred to me. It explains why other Gms didnt fix it because they thought Ssra was. The chaos of his departure along with bad communication and poor supervision explains how it fell thru the cracks. Again, interesting.

I disagree. Part of the deal is maintaining the quality of the product. I have asked why they took so long to fix something. I have asked where were the pali GMs in all this. I have asked who knew what and when. Thats not demanding things be done to my satisfaction. Thats asking why things are the way they are. A customer can always ask that.
<<Boy, thanks for skipping the sarcasm. I'm sure it would be really biting and clever.>>
I didnt think it would improve the quality of the debate. I knew some people would respond out of anger which means they will see anger and sarcasm where it isnt. No need to add to that.
<<You're whining because you expect things you are not entitled to.>>
I usually dont view questions as whining. I certainly dont see how asking why it took so long as whining.
<<You're complaining to volunteers that they haven't devoted enough time to enhancing your gaming experience.>>
Im asking the service providers why it took so long to fix something. Im curious about the decisions made and the reasoning used. If curiosity offends them then that is their problem.
<<Either make constructive posts without the venom or don't post.We used to have a lot of players like you (myself included) that got all bent out of shape because the game wasn't what they thought it should be.>>
Venom? If you think ive been angry your wrong. I havent, i know better than posting when your emotional. I work on something else, let some time pass, pace or walk if i can. If something really bugs me then I imagine my friends as the source. Since i trust my friends judgment it helps me think rather than react. Thats why I havent posted in anger. Thats helped me avoid sarcasm. Im just honestly curious.
<<Posts like yours make GMs not want to work for us. So do the rest of the guild a favor and not post.>>
Back to the GMs punishing the many because they are angry at the few. People disagreeing with me brought it up which is an odd way to defend GMs. At best your suggesting they are not doing their job because their feelings are hurt while at worst they are refusing to do the job because they are petty, spiteful and vindictive. If your going to attack me cause you think im attacking the GMs you might want to avoid attacking the GMs.

<<I think the pali guild is in a bad state because the GMs have put it last for years.>>
And again, you're wrong.
<<That you brought up Ssras departure was interesting to me. You thought his leaving had an effect, that talking about him wasnt directly related to my questions but helped you with your side of the debate, some mixture of the 2 or something I havent considered.>>
Negative, that was you trying to make a statement into something it wasn't. Ssra's departure meant that a lot of Big Paladin Things that were in the pipeline got sidelined. If he didn't leave, the guild would be quite different right now.
<<I disagree.>>
You disagreeing with something doesn't make it right. Your opinion doesn't matter when it comes to what problem is fixed in what order on Dragonrealms. You are not privvy to 95% of the info that the GMs are, so even if your opinion did count, it would be based on 5% fact and 95% assumption (something you do quite well, I might add).
<<I didnt think it would improve the quality of the debate..>>
You think? Careful, we have a firecracker on our hands here.
<<I usually dont view questions as whining. I certainly dont see how asking why it took so long as whining.>>
"Whining" is not inferred from the content itself, but the way the content is presented. You presented it in a whiny fashion. Let's not play this game.
<<If you think ive been angry your wrong. I havent, i know better than posting when your emotional.>>
Read your posts again. It's obvious you are all bent out of shape over how your class works in this video game.

... say what?

The GMs aren't angry. They're doing a cost-benefit analysis. Benefit to helping paladins? Oh, Rumael will whine again. How exciting. Benefit to doing something else? No reason to read the Paladin folders and see Rumael posting.
You depress them.
