Hello, Bistro.
How about bringing Baltiziel back while you're at it.
... and Relayer.
That will make for a real hoot of a time.

Heh, unfortunately I know Baltiziel isn't the same soul...purchased power and all as you guys term it. Same for my old body (Bistro)...as far as Relayer goes, I'll try my best to accomodate you old tog friend. =) I KNOW you always need that excitement...funny thing is, we might now be on the same side of the fence on views. Times change, who would of guessed.

Hi hon, and welcome back!!!! I took a small break as well and got back a couple of months ago. As for some of the other names, Laythor's no longer around, and Drongol is also gone. I haven't found hide nor hair of Lennon or Blasword, I believe they're also both gone (and anyone/everyone, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!!!). Silus is down in Shard right now, as am I. Mad Madigan is up in Theren, as are Aaiyaah and Redarch. Glemm's in Crossing, right now, and I'll be back up there soon as well.

Back, maybe on 03/23/2009 04:45 AM CDT
Hi everyone, Jerid Kardragon here, returning from a long wander in distant lands. Not sure if I am here to stay, but certainly taking a look around for a bit.
Hanging around Theren for now scraping the rust off all of my equipment and seeing if these creeky old bones of mine can still handle combat.
Hope to run into some friendly faces!

Shard? I think the last time I trained down there was when you literally had to lay down in adanf to learn armor because nothing else in the realms taught it, not fond memories, but it makes me think of Hartblest who was the first to truely focus on shield skill and thus was the most sucessful in the lay down in adanf approach to armor learning. (wow, what is that, 10 years ago now? more actually I think)
So what lives down there these days that is worth riding barges and gondolas to check it out?

Back in the game after 5 years on 09/15/2009 01:10 PM CDT
Hello all fine Paladins,
I'm Tumon from Asery
After 5 years of absence I strangely one day woke up with the urge to check out DR again. Before I knew it I renewed my subscription, downloaded storm and found my self sitting in the front of the bank in Asery...wow was I lost! Getting back into the groove of things was quite a challenge. I felt like a circle 5.
This was about a week ago.
Things have really changed. First thing I noticed was the absent minded busy characters working hard on skills with little or no regards to what was going on around them. I was on the green in Ratha one day and could not get an answer to my questions and there where 4-5 in the same room, all too busy making ropes. There must be an insane need for ropes on that Island!
I remember back "in the old days" hanging out at the bank in Asery learning tons of stuff. Chatting with characters from all sort of life. I really miss those times.
The other day I was standing in front of the bank, resting from a trip to the la'tamis. I'm only a circle 39 so they still train me good. An empath comes by and says " I can heal you for 5 gold". Things have changes, I never saw that before. I this how it works now?
I'm so lost in regards to training and skills. I hope some of my fellow Paladins can give me a few suggestions on what to train. I just want to grow a solid well balanced and trained Paladin. I'm not too concerned about the time it takes. I don't run scripts (only a few travel scripts), I use macros, I like to stay in the game so I'm sure it will take me longer to grow compared to the ones running scripts afk.
I'm close to circle 40, just need a little more armor I think.
Here are my stats. I would appreciate comments on what I should train next. And take a look at my experiences and suggest what I should do there.
I appreciate all you help ad advice and look forward to meet you in the realms. I'm mostly on Asery, but do remember liking Theren a lot.

My rule of thumb for every character is to get everything to 20 before I specialize too much.
Beyond that, reflex is always good, and discipline is also fine. Your strength is sort of high in comparison to your stamina; stamina is more useful at this point in time so I would suggest raising that one.

Well, do what makes you happy is probably the best answer.
However, I like the following advice:
1. Reene's advice concerning stats. Even them up to 25/30 then specialize. Personally, I like REF/DIS training.
2. Train a ranged weapon. Lethal magic is out the window for paladins, so basically you have to hit them with a mundane weapon. Since we are armor primary, you want to use something while holding your shield. So, LT/HT/LX/HX. My personal preference is LX/HT.
3. Train up that shield. It will save you and it should be your primary armor.
4. Train perception. Stealth and ranged still rull the range, so you have to counter them...and pretty much perception is the skill in that area. Make sure you understand the HUNT verb and FORAGE for perception training.
5. Train multiple armors for TDPs. Some people switch whole sets, some people mix and match all the time. Figure out the best way for you and train as many armors as you can carry.
Good luck.

<<Lethal magic is out the window for paladins
Well. This is just MY opinion. For a new Paladin I would not be so quick to toss out TM training (I realize the OP is not new ;)) because...
-As a tert its redic easy to train/TDPs
-You never know what could come down the pipeline and make the person regret no TM training

Thanks Renee,Stayn and Madigan for your excellent input. I have a much better idea of what to do now.
Madigan,
With mixed armor you mean wearing different helmet gauntlets armor etc? Is there any restrictions? Can I wear leather and HP items at the same time? What is a good mix?
So, shield should be my main armor? I think I was advised different before. But, I'm probably wrong since I'm trying to recall conversions 5 years ago ;-).
So many details have slipped my mind.

Welcome back!
And yes, the usual thing is to wear different helms and gauntlets and so forth. The main thing you have to watch out for is mixed-armor penalties. Fortunately, for penalty purposes, the plates are considered one armor class, the chains another, and leather and cloth a third.
When my shield was about what yours is now, I trained it a bit in ghoul crows- which are outside the mausoleum. They aren't good for melee training since they fly, but they would be good for ranged.

Thanks Ryeka,
I have not been to crows. Was not sure if I could handle those? Now when all my fiends are gone and few to rescue me I will play safe until I find some friends that care enough to come and save me if I go down.
The la'tamis is teaching me quite well still, in shield, weapon, armor and parry. To bad I can't skin them to make a few coins.
What else would I be OK fighting at this level you think?
I'm sure I can take the gobs, but I suck at disarm and lockpick too. I vaguely remeber getting both arms blown off trying to open one. Not sure where those boxes came from.
My ultimate dream is to buy a boat and sail (sail in real life), so I better start saving too.
