Is it just me, or are other people bitter about not being able to carve meat off of most things. I mean everything with a few minor exceptions is made of "meat" so why can't I carve it up and feed it to the wolf? Sure some meat might be a bit tastier than others, but if my wolf is about to starve to death I'm pretty sure he'd be just as happy eating musk hog as he would be eating goblin. Given the fact that if meat is rancid it will kill your wolf flat out, I think it should be possible to get meat off of pretty much everything.
The thing that really bugs me about this is that I like the idea of having my wolf along side me while I go about my daily routine, but I hate the fact that if he gets hungry I have to send him away till I manage to get back to one of the few things that I can actually carve. I sumbit that as long as something isn't undead then it should be made of "meat" and that meat should, for the most part, be edible (yes I can see certain insects having evil meat that would make your wolf sick) but even that should be few and far between.
Its been suggested that we have a means for storing more than 1 piece of meet for longer than an hour. Last time I'm pretty sure it was shot down. Since that's not an option, yes please, make more things carveble. I'm hoping this change will happen with the skinning rewrite, but given its current state of "not even gonna get a sooon " I'm not holding my breath.

I remember from way ,way back that having a companion was suppose to have some inconvience associated with it.Thereby the Ranger was making a sacrifice of themselves in order to befriend a normally wild creature.Might of been Treveri who said or a GM before him.

<<Some one posted somewhere about food for their wolf in P5. There is a carvable critter in P5, though I may need to make another.>>
I remember being told a while back that the only carvables for meat would be animals (IE cougars, boars and snowbeasts). So it would have been logical to be able to carve bulls, boars, bats, and apes. But aparantly you can't. Hopefully someone finds the carvable soon. Mactire is almost old enough to stop drinking milk.

This is a subject that has been brought up many times in the past, but with the introduction of another province and perhaps team Ranger considering the re-write of the companion system I feel the need to ask this question.
Why are so many things in the realm not made out of meat?
I mean a goblin is made of meat, and I'm pretty sure wolves are fairly forgiving when it comes to what sort of meat its eating. I mean when you think about it, a wolf would eat nearly any meat available provided it wasn't diseased.
I heard an argument from someone suggesting that it wasn't a question of the meat existing but rather the ability to carve off a sizeable chunk...
By the time you have a wolf, your skinning is at least high enough to arrange critters for skinning. If your character has enough skinning potential to know how to flay an animal flawlessly I think he's got the skill required to carve some meat off of an animal.
I propose that anything made of coporeal substance is made of "meat" and should thusly be carveable. I also propose that a wolf's sense of smell is better than a humans. If I can smell meat and tell that its rotten and harmful I'm possitive that the wolf would also know that and instead of eating an instantly fatal piece of rotton mutton it would instead refuse to eat it.

These would both be excellent temporary fixes before the rewrite. But they're not doing any temporary fixes before the rewrite.

PSA - Sakhara's definition of RP (like many things) is erroneous

<<>So it would have been logical to be able to carve bulls, boars, bats, and apes.
You should try again. One of these does have meat. I have tested this in the live game to be sure it works.>>
Thing is, the bulls kill us mid level rangers, the boars bring axe wielding boar riding gobins to meete death to us mid level rangers and apes kill me on sight...instant death by bone. So if the one thing carvable is a bat, (not, since when you skin it you get fangs)...that leaves frost bears which kill mid level rangers with their roars. Now I know P5 is supposed to elder ranger paradise and kudos and all that, but would be nice to have something carveable that didn't kill you first. : )

Yup, but I've got to get a critter owner to volunteer their monster for meat. So far I've only had the one taker, but I'll look into it. T>>

<<Tarragon -
aren't they looking into adding a lowbie critter to ain ghazal in case some youngen looses their gold.
Maybe throw one of the lowbie meat bearing critters in there.
or just make all rangers take WOTP. Arrys>>
Boo on you! Please don't make us have to take a ferry to Ain every time we wanna feed our wolves. Sure put one there, but also another one on Fordhvidar (or however you spell it) too.
As for WOTP, there is a spell path to that and I don't think they wanna screw it up just to give every ranger WOTP. But take heart Arrys, next spell slot I get, I'm getting WOTP and you won't hear me whinning on the boards (er see me whinning on the boards).

WOTP help resist frostweyr bears by boosting discipline. Zinaca and I and I'm sure many others, can't hunt there because the roar will kill us. Currently, the bears are the only carvable creature in Forfedhdar.

<<Wait, that bear special attack is working as it's supposed to? I 1 hit kill those things and don't learn a bit, and if I'm around more than 1 of them for more than a few seconds I die. How dumb.>>
Sadly, I believe they are working as intended. There have been quite a few posts (some of them mine : P ) about their attacks and so I'm pretty sure the GMs know that that happens.
Yeah, easy to kill and easy for them to kill us too. When I head back to P5 with my wolf, my plan is to stalk 2, kill 2 fast and get the hell out of there, then feed my wolf and freeze the other chunk.
Supposedly, this is only the first phase of the roll-in for P5 and hopefully down the road (not too far I hope) they will release more wolf meat that won't kill us mid level rangers with a look, bone, boulder or spell.

They aren't. They were ported over from a quest and their standard attacks are toned down, but they didn't change the special attacks so they're still super high powered.
They're working on it.

<<It helps if you read all the messages instead of just your guild folder... if you have the time to keep up that is.>>
God if I read all the messages in all the folders I wouldn't have time for anything else. No sleep, no food, no work (that actually would be nice), and worst of all, no DR.
I read a few folders in rangers, general discussion, companions (because I really like companions) and sometimes beseech the guru for knowledge (not so much anymore since Edahla left) and ranger ramblings sometimes. I read general discussions in the first folder you see when you log in, the general one. Those keep me busy enough.
So go easy on us that can't or won't read everything ever written : P

If one deliberately does not look for the information (ie, being lazy) or if one simply doesn't have the time to (or can't find it, knowing it's there), one should not throw stones at others brave enough to guess or answer the question and/or explain the concept. Wrong or right, these people are cutting large chunks out of your waiting game and giving you something concrete to play with rather than having to research it all yourself.
J'Lo, no that other one

I have mentioned this before, and I was just hoping for some kind of official response.
We all know companions are coming "soon" with the re-write. I appreciate any and all work moving that forward. I am excited to see all the new things and what not.
That being said...
Can we get a bandaid of some sort on the wolf meat... bump the beseech several hours, knock the critter feeding times in one way or another. Just something so that if I am going to play for say a 6 hour bender, I don't have to go hunt down a snowbeast, or La'tami, ever 30 minutes just to have the little guy come out and play.
I know I am probably simplifing it significantly, but the beseech much have some variable to it that acts like this.
X = meat good time.
y = beseech bonus time.
Z = time since meat was carved.
after beseech:
Meat Good if X+Y>Z... how about just changing Y to something reasonable?
Wolf Trainer Diggan.
