I think you have to rub the corn, and there are other rooms in that area before the observatory that are used for companions as well. But I think rubbing might solve your problem.

Instead of going one room SW, go all the way SW from that spot. That should solve your problem, I think.

all the way southwest, and be sure to put corn on ground, as dropping it won't work... and only put ONE corn on the ground at a time.

Try taking your corn off the ground, leaving the room, and coming back into the room to "reset" it. Then do what everyone else said. Put corn on ground [not drop] and hide. It should work.

Everything you said in your original post was correct and you have all the stats/skill correctly. It takes patience, I've seen this quest last for a very long time. Just keep hiding and be patient and you will get your raccoon.

Something I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, and I did email him, is that you can't have warrants, wounds or debt and your bonus needs to be intact.

You are not supposed to have warrants or debt when you go to get your wolf. I've never tested it, but I don't think this applies for raccoons. I've also never seen to heard of wounds playing into the equation other than the fact of that you might fall out of hiding if wounded to terribly. Ranger bonus shouldn't play a significant role either.

I continue to find it hilarious that the animals care about your criminal record. Also, how do they know? Nonsensical.

Just another indication of how old, and outdated the entire system is.

I had a hamster that never looked at me the same way again after I shook down a vending machine for free Snickers and a bag of Doritos. A gerbil now, there's a pet that could care less if you cheat on your taxes.

<<I've seen this quest last for a very long time.

The first time I got my raccoon, it took me several days of hiding and such for about 1 hour at a time, before the stupid rascal would trust me and then when that happened, I lost 3 raccoons to the hawk because I couldn't signal the raccoon to jump fast enough.

Take heart and follow all the advice. Welcome to companion hood!

A few reminders--please go to Elanthipedia.com to read about caring for and keep the critters.

Be sure to pay attention the first few days of your raccoon/wolf. I usually walk slowly and wait for the critter to find me before getting too many rooms ahead of the critter. Also pet it a lot. And remember, DON'T climb in the ranger guild the back way without sending your critter to sleep. You will lose it.

Also beware of boats, banks, empath guild and cleric guild for starters.

Lucky sends a big howl to you and wishes you luck. I hope you find your critter as much a friend and companion as I do my wolf.

I got my raccoon right away,I wasn't waiting for more than 10-15 minutes. I didn't have any wounds, warrants and my bonus was intact. They might not have had anything to do with it, I could have just gotten lucky but what's the harm?

Congratulations on the coon! One of the things I found strange was, I couldn't forage any corn from the ferry to the site where we get the raccoons! That just doesn't seem right.
