Gee, only 2 more survival ranks to go up 6 circles? And 58 survival ranks to go up a total of 10 circles?
Oh, the utter unfairness of it all...the end of the guild and all that... ;-)
Much thanks, Zeyurn. It'll really be nice for a casual player like myself to circle more than once or twice per year.

<<So, Skinning is now finalized to be a hard survivial fixed requirement for rangers. When is this skill going to be fixed for us? Is it going to happen before these new requirements go into effect?
The fixed skinning requirement is hardly large. Much smaller than the primary weapon req which means if you hunt skinnable creatures with any degree of regularity, you'll be able to meet the skinning hard reqs in your sleep.
If your argument is that skinning is in your top two or even top four and you want to keep it there to avoid massive amounts of backtraining a replacement skill, it would sound less like an excuse to whine about the messed up skinning skill.

I think he told you to go afk script. BAD!!!
Oh anyways skinning is trainable, just difficult to do so. It should be easier, but I don't see why it wouldn't be a hard req for rangers.

I wasn't really making excuses or whining. You should re-read the question, because you seemed to have missed the fact entirely that in was indeed two very simple questions. The reason why i ask is because i find it odd that the new requirements now mandate skinning as one of our core skills, yet the ability for us to learn that core skill is broken. And broken only for us.
I made no reference to primary weapons reqs nor did i make an argument in any way towards a skillset. Try re-reading my post one more time more slowly..

<<I made no reference to primary weapons reqs
The ability to learn skinning at the level required to meet the hard reqs is not broken taken in the context of all the other reqs. This is where your logic fails. In the process of meeting the weapon requirement alone, a ranger that even makes a token effort at skinning things will easily meet the hard req for skinning. This is what makes your connection between 'skinning is broken' and 'we shouldn't have a hard req in it yet' invalid. If the hard requirement was much higher, then you'd have a valid argument.
<<nor did i make an argument in any way towards a skillset.
Neither did I.
<<Try re-reading my post one more time more slowly..
I understood your post just fine. I am saying your questions have no validity given the context you put them in. Skinning is definitely not where it should be, especially for rangers that train it amongst their top survivals, but to claim that a low, easy to meet hard req shouldn't exist because of that makes no sense.

Eeeenteresting.
I'm still a combined 300+ ranks and 35 circles down, but all in survivals 6, 7, and 8.
5 ranks in Scouting (6th survival)
130 ranks in Swimming (7th survival)
171 ranks in Foraging (8th survival)
Maybe when Dart releases the new climbing he was talking about I'll think about leaving combat... then again, I doubt it.

It was strongly implied, especially given the context in which it was framed in his first post and further clarified in his second post. Perhaps I should have paraphrased it as 'shouldn't exist yet' instead, or rather 'why is there a hard req before skinning is fixed?' The direct question of when its going to be fixed is on its own an entirely valid one, but the skinning hard requirement has no bearing on it.

Thanks Vison for actually addressing the question,
<<but to claim that a low, easy to meet hard req shouldn't exist because of that makes no sense.>>
I didn't imply anything, i dont believe i could have worded my question any differently. One of them is even a simple yes or no question. And the other one references time?Yet for some reason, you're trying to read between the lines. There is no hidden meaning here...i just find the situation odd and asked questions.
<<The ability to learn skinning at the level required to meet the hard reqs is not broken taken in the context of all the other reqs. This is where your logic fails. >>
I think you need to re-read what you said, and re-read again what i posted. I did not say that learning skinning at the required level was broken, i simply said that skinning was broken which it is. It is not functioning properly. The issue of making it with the new reqs or not was not brought up once by me, except by you. My logic is sound and you?re pulling ideas out of thin air, you're making implications and inferences when all it was, was a simple question.
<<This is what makes your connection between 'skinning is broken' and 'we shouldn't have a hard req in it yet' invalid.>>
Here, again you must re-read what you said and what i said previously. At no point did i say we should not have the hard req in yet. I said:
<<The reason why i ask is because i find it odd that the new requirements now mandate skinning as one of our core skills, yet the ability for us to learn that core skill is broken. And broken only for us.>>
This is indeed peculiar to me, and it is a valid point. We will be the only guild that has an actual requirement to learn skinning (regardless of the number of ranks or ease to gain those ranks) yet the learning process of the skill is broken and not functioning properly for our guild. This is also a fact, i suggest you re-think your argument as you are making implications yet again. I don?t know where you gathered I said the new reqs should not be in yet. Someone else needs to read for you, everyone else seems to understand me but you.
<<nor did i make an argument in any way towards a skillset. >
<<Neither did I.>>
But you did... right in your post, making the implication again..
<<I am saying your questions have no validity given the context you put them in.>>
<<If your argument is that skinning is in your top two or even top four and you want to keep it there to avoid massive amounts of backtraining a replacement skill, it would sound less like an excuse to whine about the messed up skinning skill.>>
I don't know where you were coming from with all this? I never mentioned backtraining, top skills or anything thereof. You saying my questions have no validity given the context, is indeed an argument. I didn?t put anything into context here. You are the one fabricating an outlandish context for what reason, I don?t know. It?s seriously over my head..

I can't tell you how happy I am to see that there are only 3 hard reqs now, and swimming isn't one of them.
IF there were 4 hard reqs I would have thought that the minimum requirement would have been misleading because the hard req requirement wouldn't have met the 7-8th survival requirment, which most ranger would have them at at the very least. Even though it is still a bit misleading, its way more doable with only 3.

No context? Then explain why your question about broken skinning is put in a thread about the new reqs immediately following your statement in the same paragraph that there is now a hard skinning requirement. You did not explicitly make the connection between the two, but reading between the lines is not hard.
Perhaps I'm just an outsider jaded by the complaining atmosphere of the Ranger boards. Most times that something new comes out or a change is made, within a couple posts someone is complaining about it or using it as a launching pad for a soapbox. And since I'm turning this into a different kind of soapbox myself, I'll end with this. /shrug

I worked at backtraining so that I would be caught up to my circle with new reqs. I finally did that, and with these final reqs i'm now jumping 10 circles. Pretty sweet. I also have enough skinning for the next 14.

<Then explain why your question about broken skinning is put in a thread about the new reqs immediately following your statement in the same paragraph that there is now a hard skinning requirement.>
The statement about skinning being broken is a fact. Merely an observation, and the statement about the new reqs now requiring skinning is also an observation.
<You did not explicitly make the connection between the two, but reading between the lines is not hard.>
Of course i didn't make a connection between the two, because that wasn't what i was going for. No one else seems to have made the connection based on my dialouge either. And you're reading between the lines for some hidden meaning, when there is none. Theres no motivation behind my questioning besides a curiosity based on an observation, its a very simple stand alone observation, nothing more.
If you're jaded perhaps i can understand where you're coming from, but its misplaced here. I never, ever, post on here, except for the rare BUG. I'm not complaining, or making excuses, or trying to launch something. I really thought i was being very straight forward and clear with my questions.

re: FINAL RANGER REQUIREMENTS on 10/28/2008 11:02 AM CDT
Skinning is trainable, just that it's not working right, so it's like someone used duct tape on it to hold it together for way way too long.
I would be screaming if it were not trainable at all. So, instead, I'm joking about needing more ways to train skinning.
Actually, we already did get that. We are now able to scrape fish. This has helped a good deal surprisingly, because I can just sit on a dock in the wilds after doing my boxes and skins and fish for a while, working my foraging, animal lore, mech lore, and skinning.
The only things that would make this more viable for rangers would be if we had a few more such places and could make our hooks, lines, and bait. This would help make the primary problem with skinning less painful.
I'm hopeful that a few of the rooms whose wild status was fixed included rooms where I can fish. I'm not sure why I can't braid grass and get line with enough mech lore and why I can't shape or carve a fish bone and get a hook or why I can't clean a fish and get bait, but I am assuming that these would have to wait for crafting changes to go in.
I get the feeling that the primary problem with skinning is rather difficult to fix.

Skinning requirement is no problem. I remember staying in town so I could ruin my bonus then skinning while laying on ground with a halbard. That was before scraping, and when we did have a skinning req. This was very anti-role playing, but at the time I got sucked into trying to advance.
What I don't like is the second armor req. Now before I go on, I have already gone years between circling, and never complained. Just sucked it up and continued on, part of being a ranger it seems. And I'm not complaining about back training to learn it. It is just that this will force me to roleplay my ranger in a very unexplainable way, other than I want to circle. I make my own armor(leather), and my own arrows. I heal myself with herbs. I hardly ever go to town to sell skins, I don't really need money.
I don't like having to train the 1 armor now. Most times I hunt naked anyway, only put armor on to learn skill to advance. It is stupid to be a stealth specialist and have to stand out in open and let a critter swing at you.
We have a saying "No Ranger stands alone". I think that is bull, I train to stand alone. Of course I help other people in the wilds, but I only let them see me when they are dead most times.
If we need to know 2 armors, will we be able to make cloth armor? You can make spinneretts from spiders(unyns, etc.) where we could extract silk. Then we would have to weave it into a cloth. Then use armor pattern, etc. Could do the same thing with Sheep skins. Sheep skins offering more protection, and silk offering less stealth hinderance. Now that I could take and run with it, for role-playing. And for our more worldly rangers, they could sell bolts of cloth to traders, and traders could make lite weight bags and clothing from the silk. Otherwise, think I will give up on circling. Guess I will be first 50th circle ranger with 1000 in longbow.
