Ok, I had a conflict with one of our bretheren the other day, and I feel that if my post doesn't work out here I'll just move down to Ramblings and stand on the box in the Town Green and preach all day about this.
As far as roleplaying a ranger is concerned, there are understandable a myriad of ways to do it. Its with that in mind that I would like to push away from the whole "speak to the world, hug a tree, hear the stream" kind of image that I was criticized about not having. I am a survivalist, not a flower-child. I respect nature because of its undeniable power, not because the trees are my friends. I hunt living creatures, and I only eat meat, I'm the mysterious-stranger style Ranger, not the long-haired toe-ring wearing guitar playing save the rainforest Ranger, and I welcome you all into my paradigm. Come on in, the water's great!

Nah, there are few hippytreelovingrangers on the boards....but I'm sure there are plenty in the game.=)
I happen to be much like you; love to hunt and wear furry little animals to parties and eat meat with a side of meat and some meat to wash it all down.
If you go and read the archive posts, you'll find plenty of threads about the different types of Rangers people play.

I'll probably get pelted with a bunch of rotten veggies for this, but couldn't our beseeches be kinda considered druidish? Calling upon the forces of nature directly rather than casting a spell. <smirk right back at ya>

>Come on in, the water's great!
What do you mean, "come on in"? I'm already in the deeper water, hunting the sharks! Taste great, especially as steaks. Don't be a wimp and use a harpoon gun, put that LE to use!
You've got more friends on your side of the room than you know, man. We've been wanting to skin the "peace, love" types and nail them to the guildhall's walls for quite some time, just to let the rest of the realm know that just because a few like to call us "treehuggers" doesn't make it so.
>But just as it's wrong for me to tell you how YOUR ranger should act - it's just as wrong for you to try and tell others that they're wrong.
OK, so it's wrong. I am still going to tell them they have been sniffing too many daisies and it's affected their brain, time to go join the moonies because they sure ain't a ranger as far as I am concerned. Typically they are the same type who like to sit in the guild and giggle while they hug everyone who walks in and probably at one time or another end up playing a prydaen while calling themselves a "kitty". (GAG!) And that's my opinion, I'm entitled, I'm sticking to it. Hate me for it, I don't care.
>Lucerella puffs her chest out and struts around
Dammit, stop doing that! Like I didn't have enough distractions already! ::mutters something about the chef getting him in trouble with the cap'n again::

<<::glances at Hymel::
And what do the rocks have to say?
::questioning Hymel's sanity::
~L.M.~>>
Well, they say various things. Usually it's just local gossip though. Rocks aren't realy too bright. Some like to chant the same thing over and over like "rocks are fun" or "skip me" (usually the small flat ones) and occasionally you get a weird one that chants "slings are fun". Once in a while you get a busy signal or an answering machine (seashells do this too). Watch out for the ones that just scream. They can be rather annoying.

Waaaaaaaaay back years ago, Trev had a great post about this. Along the lines of:
"Don't cut down that tree. I hide/stalk/forage around there."
"Don't pollute that stream, I bathe/wash/drink there."
"Don't kill those creatures, they'e MY food/clothing source, not YOURS."
I'm paraphrasing the heck out of this, but you get the idea. While some of us occasionally rail against the idea of hunting and foraging, most of us are more practical in our approach. ('Practical' according to my opinion, your milage may vary)

True enough. Enjoy your distraction, MAA. ;)

>The really realistic rocks say " Gee, I'm bored. I'd give anything to be a mountain."
>~L.M.~
I don't know, I would think those rocks are being hopefuls and dreamers.
I think a realistic rock would say "Ack!, Quit stepping on me. Do I look like a place to wipe Goblin sign?" Where, of course, I would say Yes.
Or perhaps "Hey! Quit pounding on me. Do I look like that flint over there."
Also, "Hey! Quit pounding on me. Do I LOOK like I can be made into an arrowhead you moron?!". I've personally got this a few times from some outspoken stones and ones shiny pebble. Though the shiny pebble was happy that I'd at least noticed it.

<<Heh, like we'd forget? <G> But it will make for as nice a teaser to the new folk as PAFO was. <cackle>>>
Sheesh, you mean there are more new people out there? Great, more people to overwind.
<<Hawkman! Good to see you're around friend. Holler at me if you see me.>>
Thanks I will, if you ever get off that blasted island, beachboy.
<<WOW! A Hawkman post.... they said you was dead :-)>>
Yeah? Well maybe I was, but it sucked so I came back.
<<Nice to see ye around.

Thanks, we shall see what I am up for after a year away.

In trouble with who? Just kidding. What did I do this time? And I'm back for 5 minutes and I'm already getting people in trouble. I thought I'd have to warm up to get there. Surprised to see you back though. I didn't think you'd come back just so I could get you in trouble with other old people.
<<That wasn't a TRUE Hawkman post. This must be an impostor. The old Hawkman wouldn't have been able to say that without a 6 or 7 paragraph, 10 lines each, post. ;> Good to seeya about.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. How am I doing now? This ought to be about right for the time being.
Thanks for the welcome though. However, it seems like on the surface things here haven't changed. Although I have noticed changes made about and around. I still have yet to investigate them all. I haven't really been keeping up with what's happening as much as I used to. I'll catch up soon enough. Tonight, for instance, I'll be up all night working so I get to sit at my computer and read up on what's happening.
Thanks again...
