Greetings folks, Ranik here. Do ya ever feel left behind as to the goings on of current events in the Dragon's realms? Get lost in the endless list of names and places? Please take a moment to look at what I am trying to compile as the Dragonrealms Almanac. The quotes were more for my benefit but I left them there in case others might like to see where I have cited my info.

Question/comments, please send to ranikdr@aol.com

Thanks Porlock. Since I got yer attention here and I couldn't get it in the Tunes/Tomes/Trash folder, I was wondering a couple things.

Are you and Kaspien still doing the book system and accepting entries to be published? If so where are entries sent?

There are 2 of the same book in the Strand Communal Center but with different names. Was this on purpose?

Any chance on gettin some new books sometime? Maybe about more recent events? Gorbesh War, Sorrow's War, Vorclaf, etc?

Thanks once again.

Sorry, I don't read that folder. If you need me for something, email is always the best course.

You bet! Send any submissions to Cadaya, Kaspien, and myself via email.

<grunts> Dunno. I'll look into it.

Oh, I hope so. I'm actually quite disappointed that we don't see more books from players on the events that you mention. Books written as in character memoirs of any event are just as welcome as any other kind. This is the way that characters can have an impact on overall game history... By being the ones who actually write it.

Odd. I was told by Taiga that players shouldn't bother with writing about the history of DR, as you guys had that all planned out. This was in reference to Elven history. Maybe she was just referring to just Elven history but I assumed she meant all of Elanthia's history. If that is not the case then maybe I can write about our past after all? :)

I think it was more like, we shouldn't write about how the Elves were created or what happened with Lanival's twin brother Ed, but stuff that happened while we were around, like the Gorbesh War or the Sorrow War would be ok, since it is Recent History as opposed to Background History which could cause problems with the GM's making stuff. Sure, one person might say one thing about the Gorbesh (like they ravaged the villages, ate all the pigs, and drew crude likenesses of the inhabitants on the wall) while another would say something totally different (the Gorbesh were really just looking for some sugar, but nobody understood them, and how mean can we be, they were planning on baking us a cake!). However, the war DID happen, and nobody can debate that. Heh. Hopefully.

I wanted to write a manifesto sort of thing about Vorclaf and the monarchy and the government and all that jazz, but I figured no one would be interested/it would never really be published. Does this mean that opinion books on history or current events are ok to submit?

Well, for various reasons, it would be pretty hard to have players defining deep background histories, such as racial backgrounds. I was refering more to recent events. Things that have occured since the game opened to players.

Bingo. We'll take care of the background stuff, but you guys were there for the actual events like the Gorbesh's frat house prank and Sorrow's little tea party. Show us your point of view in the wars, or just a unique spin on it, and it has a chance to be published.

Absolutely. I can think of one off the top of my head that is already published (and has been for some time), and I saw another submitted fairly recently.

Even ancient history can be covered if it's clear that it's just opinion. It can get tricky, but it shouldn't be impossible. The Dragon Priest Empire may be dead and gone, but that doesn't mean that you can't say nasty things (or nice things if you're one of those closet DP people ;p ) about it.

As a disclaimer to all of the above, submitting a book does not guarantee it will be published, but it will be read and it will be considered.
