people rage quitting by dying 20+ times in short order so they could walk the starry road and all the drama that would ensue from people asking why so and so was dying so much.

I miss that sometimes :)

anyone else have something odd like this that they miss seeing these days?

I miss not having the feeling that GM time was a precious and rare commodity that won't stretch to fit everything that needs to be done. It probably has always been that way, but I miss not realizing it. :(

I want to make absolutely positively crystal clear this is not in any way a comment on any GM's efforts or work ethic.

I miss the days when I came back from a successful hunt -- with plenty of gold in my pockets ready to be deposited. However, as I make my way to the bank in Crossing I see a friend lingering outside of the bank and stop to say, "Hi". I continue making my way to the teller and ask to deposit my gold and she stares back at me and says, "... but you don't have any coin to deposit".

I miss the phrase "open pockets."

I miss walking into a room, seeing five unattended and humming wayerd pyramids, and then opening and closing those pyramids.

I miss the Archmage title making people gawk in awe.

I miss people crapping their pants over the PHA.

I miss weapons of mass destruction like the battle spheres.

I miss the "Necrorealms" jokes.

I miss Blackfire. Never thought I'd say that.

LOL. I would take my Thief and open/close them all, than hide. I'd wait until the owners came back for them and pick their pockets bone dry. Good times.

I miss mostly the infamous moments that whenever mentioned, still cause me to smile:

* Gyren knows.
* I was spying all along.
* Kittenchute.
* Haven Revolutionary Army
* Prydaen eggs.

If you're lamenting the wonderful world of noobishness just make a new character. This is the most goofy lament I've read in a long time.

There's a button to deactivate you character on the go play screen, or you can purchase an extra character slot for 2.50$

I miss opening up a moongate from the Moon Mage guild to the bank and having a few RF moon mages go through and see how many folks they can drag though. Then closing the moongate, and see how it took those people to ask one of us to gate them back out after relizing they can't leave.

Not that I ever did that.

Honestly wasn't trolling. Thought he genuinely wanted to be a novice again or something. Deactivating a character via the website is the same as having billing do it, just puts the char into haitus, frees up the slot, and you can pick him back up whenever.

Roundtime: 5 seconds

Arkri continues praying fervently.

Visicue prays fervently.

Arkri searches around for a moment.

Visicue rubs a gold medallion symbolizing dedication to Meraud.

Arkri asks, "did you get that Viscue?"

Visicue asks, "No, what?"

Arkri says, "A wolven statue says, "Loyal servants, I am pleased with your devotion. But go forth now and partake this quest. I must have incredible amounts of lavender for my return. Take the lavender to the Temple of Light and leave them at my shrine. These are my words, spread them to the faithful masses.""

Arkri stands up.

Arkri says, "we have our quest" (so did everyone that was logged in after it hit the gweth)

My only regret about the lavender thing was the bragging about it afterwards- it was a great RP event- and could have remained a great player generated RP event.

People wanted to believe it, and wanted to participate in it. I think yes it was very well done, but the reveal at the end I think made people more cynical about events.

Our characters should 'fall' for such an event, but I think now we would be far less likely to.

Regardless of whether the game today is better, or not there were some incredible memories created by the people.

I miss the friends and the stupidity we all got into. In 2004, I was 9 years younger and stupider than I am now and did some things that I can still recall fondly even though I know I'd never say or do now.

Also, I really, really, really miss my epic fights with Magmus and Meanne over blackfire.

And I miss DR before consent policy. The GM's might not miss this part, but I do.

I don't want DR beta or DR 1.0 or DR 2.0 back. I like 3.0, but I miss the memories.

I miss everyone standing outside the bank "chanting" and SCREAMING their items for sale.

I also miss when being 40th circle was a total beast! Everyone racing each other to be the top person of the guild.

But the one thing I truely do miss... the goblin hoard invasions of years past.. Goblin merks, archers, princes, warlords invading the Crossing nearly on a weekly basis, fields of dead adventures out the west gate. Gear stacked to the sky of the 'un'neatly departed. "Watch my stuff" spoken to friends. The screams in terror and the still living running as a black death spirit floats in.

Good times, good times.

I miss thievery adding to game emmersion. Now it feels like the most cordoned off part of the game which sort of ruins immersion and completely emasculates a large part of role play potential.

Stealing was once afforded equal respect and it's place in the game was preserved. Open pouches allowed thieves to steal gems from people on the road, on ferries, in towns, in hunting areas, and kept players immersed while they worried about possible thieves lurking in the shadows. They had a choice: close their pouches or get pick-pouched.

With the energetic push to increase no steal areas, mechanize many ways for players to avoid having their gems stolen, etc., the role-play of thievery has been really marginalized.

Regulating how many coins (plats) can be stolen in a grab was reasonable. But in general, I would have encouraged travelers to utilize the multiple banks across the realms rather than baking in ways to profoundly minimize the stealing skill for role-play and earning.

So I miss when being a thief was organic and didn't feel so thin, contrived, and pretend - all because non-thieves were too stupid to type "close pouch".

Sucks.

I miss having no way whatsoever to prevent theft other than actually training stealing. I think it was a very balanced system that in no way encouraged extremely OOC training choices just to play the game.
