I've finally had the pleasure of meeting a couple of gonifs in-game, after so many years of hearing the tales of that clan's adventures. Boy, there used to be quite a lot of gonifs in the family as I recall, although I only met two. It was fun chatting ICly with 'em, and I'm pleased to report that I finally, finally have my answer as to whether the original gonif really WAS a male character years ago and I'm not just completely losing my mind and\or my memory.

The two I met were Bags and Schvartz. There used to be others -- I remember a least one, Paladin named Adongonif or something very similiar, but there were more too -- not sure if the human behind the gonifs still plays those characters or if they're permanently retired to oblivion.
Schvartzgonif was originally a male character. Now she's a female. Bags explained to my character (IC) that Schvartz used to hide her identify as a female because their father wanted a male to inherit. The father is now dead and Schvarz is no longer pretending to be male.
I have no idea whatsoever about the OOC reason for the genderbending, nor do I really care! I'm just glad to have found out that I'm not completely nuts and I really did correctly remember Schvartz as having been male long ago.
By "clan" I didn't mean an actual in-game group\mob composed of lots of different people, such as Hing used to be. I just meant that I remember at one time, the mind behind Schvartzgonif also had a whole bunch of other characters in different guilds and they all had 'gonif' in their names. To my knowledge all the gonifs have always been played by the same person. I could be wrong. In any case, that person is a great roleplayer and I'm happy to have finally met some gonifs!
