Considerin' there only been one post in the past 4 months, I'm hesitant to ask here, but here goes. Does anyone out there have a relative knowledge or possibly a chart of what skills it takes to make lockpicks, ranging from crude to grandmasters? It's fairly common knowledge what it takes to get professional or even quality on up, but anything lower than that I'm clueless on.

I'm going to go expirement myself, get healed up, jail myself, donate some, maybe sit in the lockpicking room, and eat some cookies, and then see what I can make, but I'm only one Olvi, and would like some input from some other "commoners" out there if possible.

Many thankyas

I'm no help at all. Stealing a quote, "The worst vice is advice"; I would say you may be better off picking with Ivory over Iron til you make masters only because:
1- you can carve masters easier
2- They tend to pick easier than Iron

Con
More expensive but only if you buy :)

Grandmaster say 320 - 350

Grandmaster with full name say around 420 - 450

Agility = a big modifier. So the more you have the sooner you carve a level

Also there is what cookies you use and were in what town you stand in to carve.

Then the random factor...

310s occasional Grandmaster, and occasional GMaster with initials.

BTW, has anyone carved a Grandmaster in anything except iron? i've only done them in iron, or the special festival keyblanks using the figurines awhile back. no ivory or other normal material.

ok, i hate to pester everyone, but does anyone out there with the ranks for the lower picks, such as professional, quality, slim, stout, etc. ? Just ballpark figures would be good enough. I'd like to make a list to have as a reference. It would also be nice to have in case other thieves asked about it in the distant future.

LOL, Thats why there is no list. because things keep changing. Sure go and form one. But in the distant future it will stand a good chance of being useless. Pick rewrite is supose to happen by DRII time or thereabout. THat is definitly expected time of next big change.

190 locks, 160 mech and 38 agility makes a lot of high quality and superiors, with the occasion pro and rare masters.

Am fairly sure all others are impossible.

As for ranks...with 40 agility....420ish ranks for Grandmasters outside of town with no buffs.

And 400ish for grandmasters platinum hued, in town with khri, no other guild's assistance.

Agility does make a big difference, but I think Nakeeta's statistics make it seem a bit more dramatic than the true benefit is. Especially for anyone a bit higher up in the guild. A change from 22 to 29 agility is damned near a 30% increase... Thar sort of dramatic shift won't happen to anyone past the lower circles.

Not sure what you consider lower circles, but I am 47th. Not high, but over lower I would say.

Okay....Scratch lower circles...make that lower stats. Everyone trains themselves in different ways (and appartently you're playing catchup to it a bit), but most thieves would have more agility by that point, I'd think. Yeah...Circle doesn't mean anything, but once you get reasonably well suited in your agility, you won't be able to make so dramatic a change anymore.

I got what you are saying now :)

I play a Rakash, and I went for 30's in all my mentels before I really worried about Agility. I hope to have a 30 in everything cept Charisma by 50th. Prolly a litte weak I know.

actually, that's not weak at all.

I'm 51st, and I still have a few stats under 30.

actually, disc, wis, int and stamina are all 26, and charisma is only 20. Str, agil and ref are all over 30 though.

Yours is an admirable goal.

Yeah...All 30s by 50th is a pretty good goal...Will definately mean you've done more than chase circles. Then try for all 40s by 70-80th. :p

all 40s by 70s or 80s is pretty impossible even if you've trained stupid things like TM and HP as a thief.

I was ignoring charisma cos...Well...cos it's crap..... That said...at 80th.... 5 40s, a 35, a 30 and Charisma at 20 cos is worthless. Very doable...A bit below, but depending on training, it's possible if ya work that way. And if yer going for 30s by 50th...ya do work that way. :p

hmm if i wanted all my stats even i would have been a human... The point of haveing different races is so you can use your races specialty to your advantage. cause when you add them all up... racial bonuses come out to 0 all the +'s and -'s cancel... so if you aren't useing your races strengths than why be something other than human.

I'm agreeing with you there, Addlestone. Charisma is as useless as a handle on a bowling ball. Well, it might be usefull, once disguises is comes out, but I don't think it's slated for release untill DR 4 or 5.

Heh. The sad thing is, in DR, that proves nothing of your gender. Gotta LOOK from a 3rd person perspective.

i do find charisma useful. I still get the stocks in crossing. however, i'm not training it any higher than I already have it. <30>

now what this has to do with this topic <lockpick crafting>, i have no idea.

btw, i have 5 at 40 as well.

Strength : 40 Reflex : 40
Agility : 40 Charisma : 30
Discipline : 40 Wisdom : 32
Intelligence : 34 Stamina : 40

going to work Intell up to 40, then go for my racial bonuses <StR,Refl> as well as agility <just 'cause agility is a Good thing> & discipline.

my trader on the other hand is gonna continue training charisma & mentals, and leave str, ref, agil & stam at 25. Which is already higher than the "physical" stats of many of his profession.
