Aside from some of them being rather obvious, you get bright yellow warning messaging when you first get the item AND when you look at it, plus fairly frequent messaging that specifically points out that you have a thief weapon in your inventory, going so far as to state which item it is, FOR EACH ITEM.

It's safe to say that anyone with any of these things has been warned.

That's far too logical, I don't get it.

Okay...

This.

This.

Please have a little faith before declaring something "bad policy," especially if you've not been exposed to how they work. I've gone out of my way to make sure that no one can be completely oblivious to having one of these items in his possession, so you really don't have much to fear if you don't want to be involved. If you're really that uncomfortable, find a reliable friend to test with so that you can see the messaging for yourself in private.

>Howdy everyone. It was my decision to limit the shortbow loading time due to some discoveries I made while documenting the combat system. You are correct that a 0 sec RT load isn't possible, but it was a theory I had before testing, and those results never got back to Tiesse. Regardless, the discoveries really took me off guard and will be addressed as we move forward with the combat changes. Also try to keep in mind the bow has decent stats AND its a sniper's bow to boot.

That's really disappointing to hear. I thought it was common knowledge that the nisha short bow sold at Delkai's Store by El'bains was a reduced load short bow. I mean, I really don't understand how knowing the current availability of weapons isn't part of the standard QC process.

Then again, as part of my weapon appraisal project, I've noticed plenty of somewhat arbitrary weapon appraisals, so this isn't a new issue.

Granted, good stats + the sniper bonus would be good... if not for the OP player-carved bows. Maybe that's the real issue. Right now, this bow has a small niche.

Just to clarify, a 0 RT load was at least at one time possible with a few really rare forester's bows (longbow). Not sure any of those survived though, or if that's still possible now.

Thank you GM Tiesse and all other GMs involved!

I've been a long time thief player and haven't seen a thief weapons merchant since the SNIPE verb was released.
I'm quite impressed, I'll remember this as THIEF-FEST, instead of guildfest.
I like the aesthetic differences of the Fade vs. Ambika weapons, which matches the makers style.
The player behind the laptop is very grateful and extremely pleased with the stuff you've done.

Once again, kudos to you and all of the staff.

Indeed, thank all you GM-ey people involved in the creation of the Fade gear. I like where this idea is going and I think it could be expanded upon. Why not make high end gear that pretty much requires you to be pvp open for all guilds? As much as I wish only thieves could get (slightly) better than player made gear pretty easily/cheaply, I love the idea of special gear being a perk for those who are brave enough to be open. As it is there's no real reason to be open unless you just legitimately enjoy pvp. This is a good enough reason for many of us, but let's face it, theres a ton of risk and little reward past the sheer joy of planting arrows in peoples faces. Dangling a shiny carrot in front of the general population would make things extremely interesting in prime and plat. Thoughts?

Yeah that's a good idea Seph.

Lets it have it obtainable only by purchasing it with special points gained from killing other players, too!

I had pretty much the same thought when I saw the Fade stuff. I'll remain Open regardless, but it would be cool to have some perks (not to mention incentives for the undecided masses).

Does having the weapons change your pvp stance or is it simply having them on your person that is a kind of flag? I was open anyway so I didn't notice any change if there was one.

I went open not long after the profile system was introduced and since then I have had maybe 2 pvp encounters. I don't seek it out, it doesn't seek me out often. The risk is there I suppose though, but the reward is no GM consults or pvp warnings when conflicts do occur (obviously providing all parties are sane and mature enough to handle them in good faith).

But that aside I completely agree with your idea and the fact that there is now a tangible incentive. I was walking around with all of the Fade weapons on me for a while including the longbow slung over a shoulder but nobody noticed/cared/knew what it was. I ditched my old heavy punc sabre since I now have something that apps better and looks much cooler.

Having a Fade weapon does not change your profile. I simply included the note about profiles in NEWS 2 15 because I wanted to reinforce that the items are intended for people who are not averse to conflictual roleplay or straight up PVP. Someone can still theoretically be PVP closed in his profile and use a weapon, but if his intention is to avoid conflict at all costs as his profile stance implies, then he'll either want to drop the weapon or change the stance. We will not be sympathetic to closed-profile people who complain/assist/report about being attacked or harassed when they have a Fade weapon (provided no rules were broken, of course). Period.

Is that mean you did a lot of compares? I know the briquet seems to be better then the etched steel briquet that are sometimes sold for near a thousand platinum. Did some minor comparing of my own.

They were lovely from those I checked.

I thought the briquets appraised the same. I could be wrong though. Anyways the weapons are awesome. Happiest I have been in years about a merchant. So far I have been laughed at a little but I really like the falcata. Even more than the briquet for some reason. The sabre is just sick.

Crosspost of collection of SC knowledge - Gothus's apps and my weights, Copernicus, Lancel, George and whoever else weighed in. Edited for vulgarity and baiting. Heh.

LE:
a double-edged dagger stamped with reptilian imagery
10 stones
Fair/Fair/Poor, Well/Poor, Fairly Sturdy
Notes: Also thrown, on the lower side of well balanced.

a polished dueling sword with a brushed red gold hilt
20 stones
Fair/Low/Poor, Well/Poorly, Fairly Sturdy
Notes: On the higher side of well balanced.

a matte steel falcata with a sharply curved blade
20 Stones
Low/Low/Poor, Excellently/Poorly, Fairly Sturdy
Notes: It's only a 'little less' damage than the fair puncture weapons above, whereas the balance is 'somewhat' better than the dueling sword. Smarter folks than me seem to agree that makes it a really nasty backstabber.

a hooded katar enhanced with dark knotwork along the grip
39 Stones
Poor/Moderate/Fair, Poorly/Well, Average Strength
Same as a forged katar on the surface. Don't have something to compare to I'm afraid. Better than previous mod slice fest katars though.

a sleek black briquet set with ox-blood coral in the pommel
18 Stones
Moderate/Low/Poor, Reasonably/Poorly, Average
Notes: far more balanced, somewhat less suited and 5 stones lighter than a mod puncture forged shortsword. Better balanced than the old Briquets.

ME:
a darkened scimitar with a simply embossed blade
35 Stones
Poor/Heavy/Fair, Fairly/Reasonably, Fairly Sturdy
Notes: Better impact than a forged 31 stone scim. Don't have one to compare to, so not sure on the other stats that appear to be equal on the surface.

a deep grey sabre with a supple leather grip
29 Stones
Heavy/Low/Fair, Reasonably/Fairly, Well Constructed
Notes: Better impact and construction than its forged counterpart. Dodn't have one to compare to, so not sure on the other stats appear to be equal on the surface.

a weighted black iltesh embellished with glossy enamel
35 Stones
Moderate/Moderate/Low, Reasonably/Fairly, Fairly Sturdy
Notes: Same as a dueling iltesh.

Ranged:
All have 1 second reduced RT from the standard weapon-type except Shortbow (this made me a sad panda). I compared them with bows that I have with similar RTs. Looks like it's a huge win on the crossbows as it adds a sniping bonus to the standard reduced RT template. Ends up with a unique template for longbow and composite bow. I'm inclined to believe that the fletched hunters shortbow (don't have the app) is a better option than the snipers, but considering the availability and cost of that, the SB is a very nice bow as well.

a sniper's light crossbow studded with smoky crystals
75 Stones
Well/Well
Notes: Same as forester's lx + has sniping bonus. Win.

a sniper's short bow veined with matte silver
20 Stones
Reasonably/fairly
Notes: Better balanced and suited than a standard SB + sniping bonus. Probably not as good as a fletched hunter's, but those seem to be harder to come by. Good bow.

a sniper's longbow stained black and crimson
35 Stones
Fairly/Fairly
Notes: My forester's is 'somewhat better balanced and suited, but you get a sniping bonus. Pretty good and unique template I think.

a sniper's composite bow mottled grey and brown
40 Stones
Fairly/reasonably
Notes: A battle bow is a 'lot' better balanced and somewhat better suited than the sniper's bow. You lose some power, but you gain that sniping bonus.

a sniper's heavy crossbow etched with angled patterns
150 stones
Poorly/not suited
Notes: Same as dragon HX + sniping bonus.

I don't have weights for the following two weapons, but Gothus' apps are in the link.

a glinting steel cutlass with a sculpted hand guard (Doesn't seem to make sense as a BSer. Iltesh compares the same in all categories, but has more puncture, although too heavy to backstab with)
a long silvered rapier with a carefully crafted hilt (probably a good ME backstabber, but forged rapier seems to be better for backstabbing although it's flimsy)

Here are the stats for the cutlass and rapier. I haven't compared them to anything to get an idea about where in their respective ranges the stats lie.

a glinting steel cutlass with a sculpted hand guard - 20 plat lir
low/mod/low - reasonably/fairly - fairly sturdy - 20 stnes

a long silvered rapier with a carefully crafted hilt - 20 plat lir
mod/low/poor - well/poorly - fairly sturdy - 18 stones

For the record I compared my forged katar to the fest one. The fest one wins.

You are certain that the katar is about as strong as the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar is less balanced than the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar is about as suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength as the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar does about as much puncture damage as the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar does a little less slice damage than the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar does about as much impact damage as the hooded katar.
You are certain that the katar weighs about the same as the hooded katar.

I think the dagger's actually the underrated LE.

The falcata is quite outclassable by forged weapons (apart from durability) The same can't be said of many of the others. It's a nice weapon if you want to ambush nick a critter to death though.

Every other LE is fantastic though. I'm tremendously glad we have the merchant too. It is a great revitalization of the now snooze-inducing (apart from dirt containers) Thief Shop notion.

Which is very useful with the current PvE model. Every LE in the tent has it's own niche imo.

So last night, Cined and I discovered that Rutilor's Edge is a wonderful thing on Fade weapons. Was trying to get better than excellently balanced on the falcata, instead I gave it fair puncture. Gave it back and he couldn't stop drooling. Don't know if even went and tried it out before the spell wore off.

Looking at the actual numbers, I disagree. You can't get that much puncture and slice damage coupled with that much balance on any forged weapon. Maybe a glaes falcata would be similar, but that's not really a fair comparison.

Puncture and slice in the same weapon can save you from having to carry multiple weapons with the same class if you're looking to save on weight. But I tend to carry multiple LE's and ME's on my thief characters. It does help though when you're hunting in an area that has multiple types of creatures to have one weapon with both puncture and slice such as hogs and goblins.
