Thanks for all the help. I'm rather new to the Trader guild, and everybody has been very informative on the boards.

On to the questions, do I need to return my caravan if I log out? I don't usually get to play for really long periods of time, so I was hoping I wouldn't have to rent a new caravan everytime I log in.

And when feeding a caravan with just grass, is there any state above "well fed"?

you must return it after every daily use, do not leave it unfed for more than an hour or two

and feed it until it reaches the point of they're just fine, if i remember right, no.. there's not any point above that.

make sure to get a feedbag

How do feedbags work? Do I have to fill them with grass, or are they just full of food?

If you don't return it, you need to stable it. That will prevent the animals from starving to death.

One hint: Don't bother stabling if you won't be playing your trader again in over 3 days unless you have an RP reason for wishing to keep your critters: It's cheaper to return them and rent a new animal when you're ready to run contracts.

You have to fill the feedbags. I understand that there is some kind of bug with them that causes the grasses to multiply though, and become quite heavy. Unless it's been fixed that is. A canvas sack will work very well, and served my plat trader quite well indeed for about 50 circles before someone found a caravan care kit for her. :)

opps, ya stable,,, return is a pain especially if you have stuff on it...

also.. feedbags, yes you fill it grass, then just give the caravan the feedbag

you only have to feed with feedbag once, when feeding with individual grasses, you might have to several times

Thanks again for all the quick responses.

One more question for now... Does the experience for running routes suck forever? I haven't gotten past thoughtful, maybe pondering, and I've been doing this all morning.

everyone says it sucks, but i love it.. i'm bewelidered to locked all day, from the start.

i start my route by selling five gem pouches.
then with commodities and the contracts, its no problem at all

i would totally suggest you add some commodities for some learning boost, and the pouches at the begining are good for starting the route learning really fast....

Trading exp is based off how much money you're making. Contract worth is based off of trading ranks and promptness. It gets a lot better. It also helps(if trading in Zoluren) to hold off on Leth contracts until you have at least 2 (unless one is going to expire soon). The ferry ride back and forth will kill your exp

My Plat trader (presently circle 59) has no trouble with locking trading running contracts. But then, she does make a sizable profit with each contract too.

It is very hard to get the higher mind states as a little trader though- especially if you don't have a caravan that you can tell to lead.

I don't recall seeing this mentioned except obliquely with the suggestion about Leth Deriel, but run more than one contract at a time.

What not to do: get a contract, go directly to that outpost, turn it in and get a new contract.

What to do: Hit all the places on the way if you don't have a contract from them already. You'll pick up a rhythm to it. There's essentially three legs. Tiger/Wolf to the west. Arthe/Stone/Dirge to the north and Leth the south with Crossing as the hub. Each time you travel a leg, make full use of stopping at all the ones you don't have contracts from yet, only ceasing to do this when you want to stop running contracts. About 30 minutes before I want to be done is when I stop gathering new contracts.

I also enjoy the Pits, (which are slated for a rewrite). Takes a bit to figure out their rythm, but Vinalf made it from Circle 3 (maybe 5) to Circle 17 so far on gem pouches and commodities, mostly the latter.

Are commodities similar to caravaning, except smaller stuff so you carry it on your person? I just made 3rd circle, and I've decided harvesting my own skins/gems is gonna be faster and make more money than caravaning, at least for a while.

nope, gotta run the commodities on the caravan. years ago when DR just started <in 96> you used to be able to run a crate without one if you were strong enough, but they fixed that bug.

So does it matter where you take it? Or do you just buy it where you're at and take it to another pit and hope that they're buying for more than you paid?

you should be watching the pits and know thier prices.... buy at one pit where its cheap, and take to another where its higher

you cannot resale back to the same pit, without waiting 30 or so roisaen.

i usually go by a spreadsheet i made of commodities and their usual prices. of course, that's because the player behind was trained as an accountant besides a musician. buy low , sell high.<and where they're running out>. Of course, it can be tricky if other traders are around trading commodities at the same time, because if they get there before you do, the price can change.
