Is it just me, or are the outposts buggy when returning cavavans at the end of a trading day?

I had my fill of working for the day and returned my caravan on my last contract to Stone Clan. Fees good, fed animals before turning them in, yada yada. I start my day at Crossing and clerk tells me I have a caravan. Check Crossing stables, nope. Checked Stone clan stable ('cos that's where I finished trading), nope. On a whim, I tried Leth and the stablemaster told me this:

The Elven stablemaster frowns and says, "Ah, yes, Balkinar. We found your weathered caravan wandering around without you. You really should take better care of your pack animals. There will be a 2000 Kronars fee for our recovering your animal."
The Elven stablemaster continues, "You owe 2000 Kronars in fees."
The Elven stablemaster accepts your payment.

The Elven stablemaster motions to a stablehand who hurries off to a stall, returning shortly with a weathered caravan.

Huh?

Don't they have a little bit of a lagtime on them when being turned in? If you logged off immediately, the game might stop the proceedings such that it looks to the game like you never turned it in.
