Need for restandardization of item priceing on 07/18/2002 02:41 PM CDT
When the trader tent replaced the bank as the site for selling, the practice of standarized pricing basically fell apart. Traders and hawkers either over price or under price items. One solution would be to put together a meeting to standardize priceing. One other solution would be to lower the circle requirements to use the tables and open a couple areas for non traders. In its current state the tents are rarely used.
Also maybe creating a center area in the tent were hawkers can hawk.
The practice of selling in its current state is useless. Just a thought.

Ibec,
I do not find that the Crossing tables are 'rarely used'. Just this week, yes, they are less populated. There's a festival going on, and in general it's not productive to put items up for sale when many people are spending their coin in another province.
I sell many items on my tables, and I don't feel I grossly overprice all of them. Once in a while, sure, either because I have an unrealistic client who refuses to take my advice, or because I myself have either spent too much on something or don't know the true value of an item.
But in general I think the tables work very well. I know I personally consult with the other traders I know in the tent to check prices whenever I am unsure, and I watch their prices as a general guideline for my own.
There was an attempt to form an Order, a while back, one of whose goals was to make a 'price sheet' sort of thing for retail selling of items in the Realms. While I think that's laudable, I don't think there's any way to enforce it as a
'rule'..the best it could be is 'suggested retail'.
Why do you think that prices were 'more standardized' in front of the Bank? I disagree. That's where I started out my life as a broker when I was a novice, and I saw just as much variation in asking prices as we see now.
Our market is demand-based. If I put something on my table and five people laugh hysterically at the price, I might lower it depending on who they are. If 20 people buy that item at my price, then the 21st person laughs scornfully and says "What idiot would pay that?" I feel comfortable ignoring him. If I've put something out at below-market and a fellow Trader murmurs, "The rest of us are selling that higher", then I first verify the information, then decide whether I wish to make a fast sale at lower profit, or raise my price to be in-line with my peers. It's entirely a personal decision.
I think, also, that the area outside the tent IS used for hawking, and very successfully. We have no way to regulate the hawkers outside the tent, nor do I think they should be regulated. Knowing that someone outside is selling much higher or lower for something I have on my table doesn't worry me. I know from experience that that person may have paid more for their item than I did, or may just want to unload it quickly. If someone is unrealistically high in pricing, things won't sell. If unrealistically low, either someone will whisper to him to correct him, or he'll make quick sales and possibly be sorry later when he discovers how much he could have earned.
Kertigen knows I've made such mistakes, and no doubt will continue to do so! That is the true trading experience for a Broker.
I make many platinum coins selling in the Tent. I disagree completely that the current methods of selling are 'useless'. Your comments make me wonder what time of day you are visiting the Bazaar.

Trader Tables = Great.
I make tonsa money there...gets damn hectic aswell most the time, i got a script that makes people think i aint there whilst i sit and watch..
some those people got dumb ass questions..lol.
well..phasin meself outa the Xing trader tables, I really wanna visit Aesry and bring me wares there :)
p.s. i'd hell rather prefer Muspar'i, but with the things it lacks, making people not want to visit there, makes it a vera dull place for us traders.
