Request Board? on 08/05/2012 07:22 PM CDT
Hey guys, I'm not a Trader and never have been, but I just thought of an idea that I think is definitely within reason and would help a lot of players out and allow the Traders to connect more personally with other players.
The idea involves some sort of board, just like the "wanted" board at the Town Green in crossing. But instead, players can go to the Trader's Guild and put in a request looking for a certain item, or even an item, and Trader's can check the board to see what people are looking for and what they want to buy then make an attempt to sell that item to the players.
Perhaps there could also be a specific system put in place where the Trader could learn Trading skill for fulfilling the order? I like this idea personally and it would help immensely.

It's a nice idea, but I suspect it would run into the same issue as the suggestions for an IC mail system. Apparently the system stores variable text oddly, and it takes up a lot of memory to do it.
I'm obviously not a GM, but it seems like there are unpleasant parallels to the two systems.
A less useful, but probably easier to code system might be one in which a trader could pick a few of their prize items and post them on the board for more visability. Maybe it could even be sort of searchable to item types.

I would LOVE some kind of shopping assistant for the Market Plaza. Ask an assistant to search for a noun, class, or adjective and they would give you a listing of shops that contained matches to your query. Maybe even a listing of the shop and the particular items that matched, if it was possible.
You could search for "leather" and it would return objects that contain that in the item name, or search for "leather armor" and it would return anything that is classified as being leather armor (or light armor in the future).

You'd have to put a 10 letter parser in, otherwise the scroll could be game crashing..
Plaza search a(like just the letter 'A'). I imagine a plat transaction fee, then the game immediately crashing from spawning 3000+ item names.

I believe it's been said in the past that this would be too system intensive. Which is a shame because I would love this too.
I wrote a script to record everything in all shops for me. Now all I have to do is open up the text file I record to and do a search. I'd share the script, but unfortunately I use Avalon (Mac client), which isn't much help to most people. :-/

Actually I could see a bit of expansion on this idea, maybe at each guild hall make a request board (for workers, items, help, etc..)? Could get guild rep in a way for responding to a request too?
