Couple of thoughts:
In the proposed "negotiation" book:
A cyclical spell that essentially increases your options for available hirelings. IG it would be you using the magic to encourage "fate" to provide with a hireling who can supply you with what you need. Expanded options would still operate through the hireling system, and thus require money, but could offer a huge variety of utility services. One option could be a caravan guard themed combat-pet-for-hire (already within cyclical spell territory). Another could be hiring a local merchant vessel for a ferry crossing, using a cyclical spell + fee to bypass a time boundary by creating a room (already an existing mechanic) and tying it into the "ferry mechanics" at whatever dock point the caster is at and sending it on its way. That might be tough (or impossible), but it'd be cool and convenient.
Another one, in the "fabrication" book:
I know that the idea of spells that boost crafting skills is still under discussion, but if anyone would have spells to bonus crafting, I feel it would be traders. It doesn't even have to be a straight +number to craftingskill. A spell that would essentially cast cage of light on our tools, preventing damage for the duration of the spell, would be awesome. A spell to decrease crafting roundtime by allowing you to slow down time or "see" the next move in advance would be great.
Lunar Magic Theory tangent:
If lunar magic can cut holes in space, it can mess with time, too, according to established sci-fi space/time continuum theories. Moon Mages haven't played with this at all, and since lunar magic is being expanded, maybe traders can. Here's an spell idea that plays with that idea:
The trader bends space/time is a very subtle way, either slowing down the flow of time for those around him, or simply forcing him/herself through it faster. He doesn't know which. It's useful, though. It'd be a cyclical AOE spell that increases the roundtimes and advance/retreat times of those in the room but neither in the caster's group nor grouped with his caravan. I would also love a small (2 - 5 second) AOE roundtime addition (like a mild viscous solution) on each spell pulse. It would be a minor, but useful convenience in combat training AND PvP without being a "combat buff", and also be of great use to young traders running caravans through dangerous routes.
I can't think of other temporal-based spells at the moment, but I feel like if they exist, they would fall under lunar magic, and the decision to expand lunar magic into the trader guild would be a great opportunity to explore the mechanics of such magic.
A couple of ideas I found at the bottom of a bottle of wine.

Just wanted to point out, Trader magic won't necessarily have anything to do with fate. That isn't an aspect of lunar magic, it's an aspect of Moon Mage magic.

From Armifer's post about Traders getting Lunar magic:
"The ideas that Lunar magic has a bit of alien "wrongness" to it and that it touches on destiny will still get play."
So Traders likely won't manipulate fate to any great extent, but lunar magic itself is somehow tied up into it so there will still be some.

Maybe fate was a bad choice of words, but based on the loosely proposed direction of the spellbook (from a GM post archived on the 'pedia),
>Negotiation (Katamba + Xibar)
>Broadly, Negotiation is a spellbook of "tweaking" situations. Typically this takes the form of small but elaborate psychic compulsions, such as making a deal appear better than it should. Strangely, some spells go beyond the psychic and affect the Trader in a way that can only be described as providing good luck... though for some reason, those particular spells have been known to make Moon Mages upset. This book is primarily for beneficial out-of-combat spells,
I feel like the original suggestion would still fit.

I think Clarify Gem is a perfect spell for traders.Could be shared with moon mages or retconned to be trader only(rumor is it is going away with 3.0?).It could be made to be a decent training spell as well as a way to make traders some extra coin for their training.
CV is another moon mage spell that would be good for traders, as well as fit with the lunar magic tie in.It would make a good first choice spell for traders.
Crafting boost spells also fit well with traders.Whether it be a spell that boosts all crafting skills or a different spell for each skill is fine with me.
Charisma boosting spell seem a no brainer for traders as well.

I'd love to have CG, I use it regularly to boost box gems and helps make my 700 plat untied pouch more valuable, gem by gem, but after what happened with ARRANGE, I suspect that the best to be hoped is that it becomes a AP spell.

I'd like to see ANY Lore boosters for the Lore Guilds, they're VERY lacking at present.
>Charisma boosting spell seem a no brainer for traders as well.
Aside from anything else it does with regards to the Trader Bonus, Spec Finesse is definitely a CHA booster, as Cha is definitely indicated to be boosted while running it.

>I vaguely remember hearing something about how the function provided by CG will be taken out of the magic system and moved over to some kind of technique under jewelry making.
That was what was said last I'd heard.
I assume it will be a gemcutting technique, where you cut a gem smaller but higher quality.
