Does anyone remember before when some people were trying to pin down an equation for the number of commodities you are allowed to buy (based on trading ranks and circle)? I seem to remember someone posting their guess for the equation, and it working in many cases. But I can't find those posts anywhere, and they may have been on the old boards. Does anyone else remember that and/or know where I can find that?

Well I know for my newbie trader (10th circle), every time he circles he gains 4 more units he can buy, and every time he gains another rank of trading he gains 2 more units. I've seen no difference in how many units he can buy based on raising his charisma (which started at 10 and is currently 14). Currently he's 10th circle with 41 ranks of trading...
Using his current numbers: (10 * 4) + (41 * 2) = 122
122 is exactly his limit for commod units he can purchase at a time.
Maybe using this calculation and whatever you have remaining, some kind of Charisma factor can be figured out.

Along that same lines, what exactly got everyone on the "Traders must have enormous Charisma" idea in the first place?
From my experience, and if I could do it over again, I wouldn't of bothered with Charisma past the 9 points needed to join the guild. If you lack selling power, circle, if you lack contract profit, circle, if you lack special skills, circle; all those 100s of TDPs I used to boost my Charisma did what exactly for my Trader?
That's my rant. Charisma is over hyped and under represented.

>Using that, (circle * 4) + (trading * 2) = units of commodities you can buy.
This formula worked for a level 28 Trader I asked (level=28, trading=133, MaxCommods=378)
But it isn't working for Apu (Level=99, trading=767, MaxCommods=1775)
Maybe I'm bugged from buying commods a long time ago and not selling them? Godrich, do you know if that bug still exists?
>Along that same lines, what exactly got everyone on the "Traders must have enormous Charisma" idea in the first place?
I'm pretty sure the main reason is the player documents. That's also where the myth that Traders can earn the most money got started.

The formula works for me.. 76th and 553 ranks of trading.

Looks like you got some circle issues though, Idora. I figure you mostly run contracts and all those trading ranks don't add up to bigger contracts.
I can't see the benefit of having enough trading for 89th circle but limiting your profits to 76th. From what I have seen, Ranks of Trading do not equate to inhanced contract profits, only circle does.
You seeing something else? If you are seeing something, clue me in please.
Course, I get suspicious about traders that run up large trading ranks but not circles. Not that any of that matters but is generally a sign of a profiteer.... or someone stuck at 99th circle.

I hate hunting. i need armor. i hate sitting around listening to class too.
I know i should go hunt for a couple years to get my armor to where it needs to be, but with the impending changes i don't feel the need to go run on the treadmill to just have the treadmill re-adjust itself.
anyhow when the war starts i'll probably find a nice hunting area and stay there for a while.
