So, I'm wondering when traders actually begin to see the value of their contracts go up...

One of the contracts I got today I was charged 828 for the goods, 96 in dues and 50 in fees for a total of 974. Worth 1534 on delivery -- this is from Arthe to Tiger Clan. I saw a contract yesterday from TC to SC that was worth almost 2 plat on delivery, so...

1) Around what circle do you really start seeing profits go up?
2) What does contract value specifically depend on? Charisma? Circle? Combination of both? One more than another?
3) Does using finesse before asking the minister help with the value of your contracts at all?

Thanks!

Greetings!

1. I usually give and hear 20th circle as a good baseline for making decent profits as a trader.
2. It's based on both charisma and circle. Not sure if one over the other...but generally you need circling to get enough TDP's to make a good advancement in stats so I think they are dependent on each other. And I can't see that charisma alone would do it or there would be lots of circle 20 traders around that just are there to make the coin.
3. Honestly, I've never tested it to any degree. I see lots of the steady traders using it, so maybe they can answer.

It's rough, heh... I'll get about 1 - 1.5 ranks of trading per day with just under 50 ranks of trading doing trading runs. Maybe about a halfa plat a day (circle 11)

At circle 11 I have 23 in Charisma -- I should've kept better track... hopefully I'll see a difference with this next circle, I should be able to push it up to 25.

I've always heard that charisma doesn't have anything to do with how much they goods are worth at the end but that it makes the dues you pay less. I could be completely wrong on this however, that is just what I've heard quite a bit.

>>1) Around what circle do you really start seeing profits go up?

I started making some serious cheese at 16th-20th circle. Ws an almost overnight switch, and there was much rejoicing.

>>2) What does contract value specifically depend on? Charisma? Circle? Combination of both? One more than another?

Circle...biggest factor (as I found out). I at one point was a circle 20 trader with enough trading for circle 30 (have now caught up). I didn't start making more money until I circled.

Charisma does affect sales price of gem pouches and pelt bundles. That is probably the most important aspect of charisma, and the reason why I train it heavily. I don't know if our charisma is equal to non-traders in this aspect...haven't tested it out.

Yes. I speculate before getting contracts in Leth, Dirge, and Tiger Clan. Can't get enough concentration to do all of them yet.

I got a contract the other day from Dirge to Leth on a speculate...was almost triple the initial cost. I had a small victory celebration and continued on my way. The most I've ever seen is double, and that is almost all the time.

Speculate is awesome But I do also have a question about it...is it only concentration based or is there a timer too? I've got 90 max in concentration, and I sometimes notice that I can't concentrate on it at certain times, even though I'm only speculating in those three areas above. Any ideas?

you made 57% profit on that run, its pretty good.

Charisma from the way I understand it affects the area between dues paid and total value of goods. It widens the gap of those two numbers. It caps out around 30 in charisma so if you dont plan on selling gem pouches as your primary source of income then no point in training it past there for contracts. Also it has no affect at all on tip amounts from players so its all in how you do gem pouches.

one way i have found that i can keep my trading moving whenever i dust off the ol' trader is to have him sell my main characters gem pouchs then go on the trade routes. will lock trading and then keep it moving decently from the contracts. If you have two accounts then this could be good for you...or also you can have a friend hold your pouchs then pass them to your trader.

It may be 57%, but the amount of coin for the duration of the trip is what's killing me... So, I tried a little experiment and decided to play with the commodities a bit after I posted.

Run 1: Leth to Crossing
Total Purchase Price: 11020
Total Sell Price: 14007
Profit: 2987

Run 2: Crossing to Arthe
Total Purchase Price: 5617
Total Sell Price: 7531
Profit: 1914

Run 2: Arthe to Crossing
Total Purchase Price: 5591
Total Sell Price: 6242
Profit: 651

Total Profit: 5552

So, a half a plat in 3 runs where it would've taken me maybe 5-8 runs with a contract, but more importantly, in a lot less time if I find some good deals between Crossing and Arthe. Not to mention I learn so much more trading experience during that short period.

The downside, of course, being the market being the market and fluctuating or being able to buy out goods. I'm starting to think that maybe contract running is good for the first 10 circles or so, and commodities are a nice filler in the teens to make a bit more cash and experience... for the time that you can.
