I have to say, I tried commods today after a very, very long time of not touching them. And they seem to have improved a great deal--I was actually making a fairly nice profit.
Although I must admit, I didn't see anyone else working commodities at the same time. Because that's when it gets tricky--as whoever gets there first "wins", and other folks are left holding "surplus".
And the messages in the pits--well, they were pretty funny.
<<A breathless Human runner charges in and announces, "Theren Keep is fixing to get rid of a large sum of salt bars! They're going down at the Crossing Pit for 47 kronars! Shop smart! Shop trader's mart!"<<
<<A breathless Human runner charges in and announces, "Dirge is in dire need of sacks of barley! They're going down at the Crossing Pit for 81 kronars! Pim and Shapeshifter wouldn't turn down this one!"<<
One little suggestion though. Along with the new ledgers, it would be nice if we could write and erase in them. As in, to record the buying price for a particular item. Would help particularly if you are buying more than one commodity. <i know you can write it down OOC--but this way you could do it In game, and would be what people actually did to record buying/selling prices on their ledgers...before computers came into widespread useage.>
The stylus and erasers they sell with the spellbooks would be tools for this possibly. Although as the ASCPA <american society of certified public accounts> says, write it only with a #2 pencil.>

Actually, an addition I would like to see in the ledgers on the commodities section is how much I bought the commidity for. In the short term, I usually can remember. But sometimes I have to store my caravan or my crate, and it would be nice to know what the crate was worth. Especially if I buy more than one type. Ei. 1. Wooden Crate with 55 corn at 55 copper each. 2. Wooden crate with 88 corn at 33 copper each
so forth

Kinda a problem there... because when you store the same type of commodities into the warehouses, even if they were bought at different prices, and different amounts, they merge together and there is no way to seperate them again. Would be nice to know the highest price of the corns you currently have though, since thats all that really matters. If you have two crates, and store em, one 55 copper, one 33 copper... the 55 is all yer gonna be worrying about and trying to sell it for more than that amount.

G'day,
Unfortunately, the warehouse system isn't set up to store things that way, though it could possibly be changed to do so. However, that could limit the amount of items you could store in a warehouse since each crate, no matter how many units, would take up one space. It would also lead to some confusion when trying to get a specific crate of a commodity out of the warehouse.
One possibility with regards to ledgers is to add some additional information to the commods section. Perhaps something like a "Currently Loaded" section that would list the commods that are currently loaded on your caravan, if you have one. With something like that I would likely be able to include things like purchase price and origin. I'm not sure how useful that would be since there currently isn't a way to specify which crate of a commodity is sold first.
