That will disrupt about half your current attunement.
Heatless orange flames blaze between your fingertips as you prepare the Fire Ball spell.
*The fact that you're glowing like a torch massively hinders your attempt...*
Is this something new that MoF would be interfering in some way with any spell casting? (Buffs listed below)
>
You reach out with your senses and see blazing streams (20/21) of roiling Elemental mana coursing through the area.
Letting your senses extend further, you feel there is fulgent mana (16/21) to the southwest, and shimmering mana (9/21) to the northeast.
You sense the Lay Ward spell upon you, which will last for about one roisan.
You sense the Swirling Winds spell upon you, which will last for about fourteen roisaen.
You sense the Ease Burden spell upon you, which will last for about thirty-seven roisaen.
You sense the Sure Footing spell upon you, which will last for about one roisan.
You sense the Echoes of Aether spell upon you, which will last for about eighty-four roisaen.
You sense the Manifest Force spell surrounding you, which will last for thirty-nine roisaen or until it has endured four more blows.
You sense the Mantle of Flame spell upon you, which will last for about thirty-eight roisaen.
You remember a way to combine the weaves of the Resolve symbiosis with another spell.
You sense an Ethereal Fissure spell matrix infusing the available mana streams with a very large amount of extra elemental energy.
The Ethereal Fissure should last for approximately sixteen roisaen.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

That would be MoF hindering your attempt to hide your preparation from others since you are on fire and it murders your stealth checks.

Seems silly that hiding spell prep's is based off the stealth skill seeing how it is a survival, tert skill. There is pretty much no point in ever using it once you reach a higher skill level because stealth will never ever be close to your primaries. I always thought that the contest made more sense being primary magic vs power perception.

<<I always thought that the contest made more sense being primary magic vs power perception.
IIRC there's two separate checks.
1. Noticing the preparation itself which uses a stealth vs. perception check. This is simply to see if you notice their hand movements, noises, or laser light shows at all. If the observer fails this check then they don't get to the next check at all.
2. Determining the specific spell which uses a check I no longer know in 3.0. I don't know if it is a scholarship, arcana, or attunement (i.e. previously power perceive) or even a perception check. Regardless, it is never checked if the first check is failed by the observer.
The MoF messaging is interfering with the first one which is simply the mundane action of the preparation, and not the second one which involves some kind of arcane knowledge of the spell.

With secrecy feat when viewed by my crappy empath even without MOF, spell preps are pretty visible. I know some you can notice when the person'a hidden like the slap clap and icey one.
I'd say pass on the feat, set your thing to conceal, sub the hide attempt line to be blank, and assume everyone sees what spell you're prepping.

It was designed from a game-wide perspective, not one of the WM guild exclusively. It makes sense that WMs would not be as good at hiding spell preparations as Necromancers, for instance.

Forget the GvG aspect of it (which you have a point about). It seems that this would be a sleight-of-hand trick that should be something an accomplished magic user should be able to accomplish regardless of his ability to find a place to hide. Maybe a combination talent that weighed your casting abilities more heavily but still has a heavy stealth component?

This already exists in two forms: Silent Preparation and Legerdemain.

I think the counterpoint would be that the stealth skill encompasses more than just hiding. But thievery is a separate skill, so I think a certain amount of hand-waving is necessary (no pun intended). I expect the contest already takes magic skills into account, but I don't actually know.

How is that? Both train in the magical arts in warfare but only one has figured out how to keep them out of the enemy view?
This was around before necromancers, and out of all the magic prime guilds only one guild had any use out of it.
Stealth itself makes sense, stealth as in hiding prep's do not. You are standing in the open when attempting to hide the prep. Either way at over 1k stealth people with half the skill see the preps every time with the feat.

You answered your own question there. Necromancers actively go out of their way to hide their spell casting as a matter of course, because they have to or they get the pitchforks and mobs treatment. They even have an ability and get a free feat that are both dedicated to masking aspects of their preparations in order to facilitate this. Warrior Mages, on the other hand, use an ability that lights them up like a neon sign that reads, "I am here."

How does using an ability that murders your stealth make these contests broken? Stop using the stealth-punishing ability if you want stealth checks to not be punished.
