This seems to randomly not work. I'll type cast creature and it says something like, what were you referring to?

Re: Cast creature on 06/04/2014 08:44 AM CDT
Re: Cast creature on 06/04/2014 11:36 AM CDT
TM- shockwave, CL, and Fire Rain have creature/area/all options- the rest just a single target and cast
TC, tremor, and frostbite are all/creature/area debilitations, the rest are single target(no targeting needed)
If the spell doesn't have a creature, area, or all option, trying to cast or target using those options won't work. FIre rain is the only one that doesn't need to be targeted, and the other TM spells there is no reason to ever cast AT something now.

Re: Cast creature on 06/04/2014 06:52 PM CDT
I'm referring to Fire Rain specifically. When I hunt with other people, I want the rain to hit everything, not just what is facing me. Like I said, it works half the time, at others it gives me an error as if "creature" was the name of what I was casting at and it's not in the room.
What Powerhaus said, Fire rain is one of the spells which has the option to cast creature. I'm trying to narrow down the cause of the problem. If I figure anything out, I'll post it. I think it MAY have something to do with those group casting magic feats, I'm going to go forget those and see if it helps.

That won't affect your current attunement very much.
You trace an angular sigil in the air, shaping the pattern of the Fire Rain spell.
The fact that you're glowing like a torch massively hinders your attempt...

Re: Cast creature on 06/05/2014 01:12 AM CDT
How odd. The cast options work fine for me as well. Or at least I think it's working. In testing this I noted I don't know any way to tell what the Fire Rain is aimed at. If this information could be in the room Power, room Look, or cloud Focus, that'd be stellar.
Could we get you to tap creature? I wonder if something in the room or your inventory is messing with the parser?

I think you're right Powerhaus. Here's the room description from my log.
[Boar Clan, Derelict Togball Field]
A collection of sculpted oak creatures sits in a circle around a huge grey boulder. The arrangement is somewhat peculiar considering the environment. Wavy stalks of grass caress the carvings, the growth not impeded by the wooden residents. You also see a zombie head-splitter, a zombie head-splitter, a zombie head-splitter, an Imperial dira, a zombie head-splitter, a zombie head-splitter, a zombie head-splitter, a zombie head-splitter, a small steel bar and some junk.

>>While you're amused, can you make it so "cast creature" overrides stuff in the room and actually does what it's supposed to?
Only thing I'd say against that is if you have something called "a many-fanged creature" you wouldn't be able to cast at that with an override like you're describing.
Anyway, isn't the default for non-Necro AoE's one that targets critters you're engaged with? You wouldn't need to cast creature to have it target mobs you're fighting and not other people, right?
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

He was wanting it to hit creatures in the room that were engaged with other people, aas well as the ones engaged with him.

I know, and I recognize that only being able to hit things engaged to him might limit exp/coin/etc gain, being able to help out someone else in the room, etc, but it's not like the spell is nonfunctional. It's a quirk relating to if anything in the room happens to be a creature. While making cast the default might resolve this problem, would it cause the opposite to happen: where if you want to hit something named "creature" it would target all creatures in the room?

>>Can you target fire rain at a single target? All of the AoE spells I am aware of (from other guilds) can't do that.
No AoE/Single shot hybrid I know of (yet!), but I also assume that all spells go through the same casting parser system as a whole, so any change to what "creature"/"creatures" means for one spell would be reflected in all spells, even ones that aren't AoE.

Re: Cast creature on 06/05/2014 03:32 PM CDT
Since Fire Rain is cyclic, not targeted, so it goes through the cast. Its special. The code is probably limited in what they can do, but I am sure they are working on that. That's why it amuses him. Most likely he talking to the owner of that room, and he trying to get the creature removed, or at least not be an object. Probably the easiest way to fix it.
Re: Cast creature on 06/05/2014 08:38 PM CDT
Add a Cast MONSTER option for the fix?
Like Area/all when we don't wanna kill Allarsk for some odd reason...

There can't be more the one or two areas in the game with a "creatures" object chilling out in it. That's a rather unusual noun. As such, fixing those specific rooms would make far more sense.

What about "dwarf-like creature" monster? Not that I've seen one in a decade...
They were dwarves that got turned into bugs basically.
And yeah I can think of maybe 2 other places that might have a tappable "creature" in the room.

I think they were given names and exist as these now, although I'm not sure of the history:

I should have remembered those were the same...
Change creatures to critters? Would that be the sole in game reference of the word critter other than player slang?

Agreed. It's not a pressing issue, and some of the other options people mentioned would work as well.
cast critter
cast monster
cast hostile?
Or just fix those rooms. Either way, no rush. I'll just avoid that room when group hunting.
