Something that kind of doesn't make much sense. Why is it the only way to learn TM decently is to Uzi out GZ or FS or some other low end spell but Nailing things with fire balls and lightning bolts doesn't train hardly anything. At one time I could mind lock TM with lightning bolts in the fire sprites and magma fissure area, but now I have to GZ everything to get it above (1/34) or (2/34). Of course I hear Chain Lightning is great at teaching TM but I hear that is broken. So whats the deal and why is this still a problem after so many years and rewrites and stuff.

This isn't a Warrior Mage Thing, it's a Weapon Experience Thing.

Basically, it's not something I expect to see fixed until the TM rewrite, which is slated for...soon?

Do you really pay attention to what you type, and how much of an idiot it makes you out?

This is clearly the only instance where 'soon' has ever been applied, and only applies to this one guild, because GMs hate WM.

While it was already a problem (non lethal attacks have always taught the best since it lets you squeeze the most exp out of each mob before it bites it and mobs are usually the limit as opposed to mana) this is, as Reene said, a product of the change to weapon experience soon after new exp comes out.

Instead of exp being damage*c where c was a fairly arbitrary value depending on the weapon, it's now X + damage*c or something like that, where X is some flat exp for hitting despite damage and all the c values wer made constant (And resulted in a big hit for target).

The end result? If you blow a critter up with TM (which you can often do in one or two shots at high end) you get fairly little exp. If you plink it to death with little spells you get that static X value + a little bit for each shot.

It's INCREDIBLY dumb and frustrating and illogical... but it's what we got until we can convince a GM to bandage it (Seems unlikely based on Dart's comments) or new combat finally rolls out (Since it's more that then new TM... though who knows which is S**nerTM)

At least TM isn't the only weapon hindered by this. Basically all ranged weapons that aren't thrown got hosed the same way. Ask the crossbow users how much they liked this change for example. At least TM has a work around.

Wythor was/is working on the TM rewrite (which fixes many things besides this), but the contents of his life are under pressure. I presume that if Wythor cannot finish the rewrite, another GM will... but I am rather under the impression that the combat and magic staff is all rather tied up at the moment.

I agree with this question. I don't uzi out GZ or FS to train TM, but I do something similiar. I'm afraid to reveal it because i'm sure it'll get nerfed. Also since my TM is about 200 ranks below all my other magic skills, i'm not eager to strip away my last training ability.

Fireball should work fine for your TM, as long as you cast a large enough fireball that it'll hit everything at melee with you. Be sure to use a shield, and ES (you have no idea how stupid you feel when you go out to lock TM in Sand Sprites and suddenly kill yourself, try explaining to the local empath that you... burnt yourself to ashes while killing your enemy) You'll find at any level spells that have multi shots usually gain more exp per cast, those being GZ, CL, SS, and Fireball to an extent.
