Is there any chance of making this semi-useful in every day life, albeit niche? Something like letting you do things in water that you normally couldn't do? Playing instruments and casting some bardic spells come to mind.

It'd be funnier to me if like, the best rooms for enchanting materials and mining were underwater caves or something.

Or maybe make this a 0 slot spell? It's almost like the warrior mage equivalent of Sprout.

Air bubble is literally my #1 casted WM spell of all time.

I consider it a sort of silent protest about the travesty that is the YS change. Ie, I'd rather use air bubble than YS.

Air bubble could protect against minor environmental effects maybe, and maybe poison clouds.

Would be funny is Air Bubble was a utility/debilitation hybrid where you can either provide someone an air bubble for breathing or choking purposes.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

I'm guessing that it's no where close to an option, but that could open up an entire line of "bubble" spells.

* Fire bubble (fireball + AB) - Debilitation/TM - Balance hit while it's on, next hit to the head explodes it for impact/fire damage.

* Electric Bubble (GZ + AB) - Debilitation/Utility - Creates a small electrical storm in bubble (think the globes that you touch). Hitting with a metal weapon channels the storm adding a chance of stun. Periodically strikes on it's own with enough skill hindering DF.

* Water bubble (Rising mists + AB) - Debilitation/TM - Slowly drown the target (opposite of khri hasten). Refraction makes it difficult to predict weapon strikes (DF penalty). Periodic vit damage while it's ongoing (drowning).

* Aether bubble (Fissure + AB) - Debilitation/Warding/Utility - Cast on yourself or another. Connects you to the room you cast it in. Short term buffs (fissure/nexus) apply. You siphon mana (every room you go into has mana equal to that room). Pulsing. Can be used to debilitate or help something/someone else, depending on the room they're in when you cast it. High skill/knowledge spell. Obviously no negative effects for NMUs, Traders, or moon mages.

* Air Bubble. (base) - Debiltation/utility Does what it does now + balance + OF penalties. Air currents move wildly within the bubble hindering the target's ability to judge depth perception and maintain balance.

All of these grow with skill (think filling up more of the bubble). You need a lot of skill to get secondary and tertiary effects.

Air Bubble should turn into a means of provoking explosive decompression ala the Byford dolphin diving bell accident by rapidly changing the amount of air pressure around the target's body. TM spell with splash damage.

We really have no reason to believe air bubble has any compressive force internally. And spheres are externally very resistant to all-encompassing pressure, so aside from shrinking the radius, it wouldn't really need to resist compressive force either.

A lot of the debilitation options sound tremendously like Vertigo, which already exists.

I cast it a lot, for training, and I suspect it continues to exist as a requirement for Planar Travel. At least, it makes me happy to believe that.

If the GM's want to add some effects and are looking for ideas, I would suggest trying to stay in the Utility wheelhouse, even though that's a bit hard to do. My main thought would be to go along the lines of effects we can justify as being similar to inhaling pure oxygen, perhaps as a meta spell. One or more of these options might be interesting.

* Increase of effective Concentration related to spellcasting, or possible Concentration regeneration increase.
* Slight decrease in stun durations. Would have to be very slight, I'm sure.
* Slight boost to defending against Fortitude SvS contests.
* Possible immunity to Vertigo seems to make sense, but I think we're moving away from this type of defense from other spells.

Delete the spell and give us back aether lance. The messaging was FANTASTIC for that spell. Kudos to whoever wrote it. I'd also love to have frost scythe back.

Aether Lance, yes. It's an aether TM spell for elemental attune, and it does puncture.

Ostensibly the messaging for aether lance should return in the hylomorphic sorcery Sun Lance. Or maybe.

It's a shame to not read some of those amazingly well-written spells.

I'd like to revive some of the unused WM TM spell messaging - mostly because we all REALLY hate writing TM messaging tables and some of them were quite good.

That said Aether Lance isn't coming back since it was decided that Aether wasn't really suitable for TM spells like that. I don't know the status of Sun Lance for sure but I don't think it's going to happen. There's a hylomorphic sorcery under development which files the same niche Sun Lance was planned for I believe. (Sun Lance was the proposed name for the TM spell for incorporeal creatures right? Or am I mixing up my proposed spells?)

I don't think the ideas for the actual function of Sun Lance was ever released, just a mention that it was basically replacing Aether Lance.
