Basically, the planned air book spell Blufmor Garaen expanded for other elements. It would be interesting if it was an ability that grew with you instead of just a spell.
Brawling attacks would add elemental damage. Gesturing would send the elemental attack alone, as Blufmor Garaen is planned to do with air.
You would have to be holding the element or a container with the element for it to work. A torch would work for fire. Air would not need this unless you're underwater. The more of the element the more powerful or perhaps more strikes. Holding a vial with "some water, some water, and some water" would do more than just holding a water globe or snowball.
As you increase in skill you can bind the element to the weapon in hand. You would then be able to add damage types depending on the element. (Water, Fire, and Electricity are obvious, I'd say air, earth, and aether add more slice, impact, and puncture in some combination). It takes even more skill to use with ranged weapons.
When I say bind, I mean while holding the spell and holding the weapon... not a permanent binding. Though, the weapon should take damage depending on the element and time used. A quarterstaff with fire should burn up pretty quickly. Metal blades with water will start to rust. Earth will gum up a crossbow. Things like that.
With even more skill you can draw from the room and containers not in your hands. Build a fire and pull fire from that. Be in a room with a stream or other water sources and pull from those. Earth would just work like FOS except not at all inside. I don't know if there are any added "sources" for elect or aether...except....
At the highest levels you can launch powerful attacks from an elemental fissure. This drains the fissure quickly. This would be an interesting teamwork attack with several mages boosting the fissures power while two or three are taking out everything in sight or blasting down a fortress gate.
As I said, it would be interesting if this was an ability not just a spell. I'd like to see a mini-quest to get this ability. The quest would be element specific.
I could also see this being a held mana spell, though personally I've never liked held mana spells.
